Today has been a nice uplifting day! Lots of good part news!!!
Autorad core support in my hands tomorrow! Engine shipped and will be here Thursday! And all these nice shiny Carbon Fiber goodies are leaving from Anvil this afternoon!! http://www.fletcherscustoms.com/copp...l_dfasdfas.jpg http://www.fletcherscustoms.com/copp...mal_gdhdfg.jpg http://www.fletcherscustoms.com/copp...l_dsfaasdf.jpg http://www.fletcherscustoms.com/copp...al_lkjdfsk.jpg |
Man, those are some nice parts!
|
Well it's been a crazy week of bodywork and fighting the car... After media blasting the front fenders Sunday we found that they were trash... Between the driver's side being hit in the past and the warps put in before us I had to find replacements. Got lucky and within 8 hours of getting the word out we secured a set of NOS 71 fenders in Illinois! So that makes things a little easier...
Shop employees have doubled in the last couple of days! We have now gone from 3 to 7!! A few body guys from the local shops have stepped up to help out! Josh is my body and paint guy. You will never here me say I can do bodywork. I can fabricate, weld, and do anything else, but bodywork hates me and I hate it! LOL I just had to get some help for Josh, now we won't be two weeks out on paint but sometime in the next week! This is my first SEMA car so I'm making it perfect! WE have been so anal about every little defect and detail on the body... It's taking time, but its time well spent!! All the brake lines and fuel lines are installed as well as the new tank and RobbMc sending unit. Ready to drop the motor and tranny in on Thursday when the 440 gets here!! Here's some more pics from Jim @ AutoRad of the core support! WOW!! Just WOW!!! http://www.fletcherscustoms.com/copp...l_p1010317.jpg http://www.fletcherscustoms.com/copp...l_p1010285.jpg |
WOW!! That core support is nice!
I bet that car is gonna lose 300 lbs! Let's see- lighter engine Lighter nose, valance, hood, decklid, rear spoiler, rear filler panel, and core support. Lighter wheels. Yup- big time diet! |
I would be shocked if theres not that big of a weight loss just on the front end of the car.
|
Engine just arrived from TIN INDIAN Performance/Kauffman Racing Equipment!! What a work of art!

Niceeeees. This things is going to be bad asssssss.
The neat thing about this project is a lot of other consumers will benefit from all the new parts going into it. Keep up the great work. |
I never seem to click on this thread when I'm logged on, so I haven't really seen this build (I know that sounds incredibly lazy). Man, I've been missing out. You guys have a really amazing project. I look forward to seeing it at SEMA.
Oh and its nice to see some sidewall on some rear tires  Matt |
The c/f parts from Anvil are sick:bow:
|
Lots of progress this weekend ?

Can't Wait to See It!
Hey Ty, I just got my Popular Hot Rodding. Congratulations, nice article. I can't wait to see the real thing!
|
Got mine in the mail too!
Page 20! I think Liz Miles did a great job with the Under Construction article!!
Faith, Family, Friends and all the great folks I've come to know thru this project we call the "Freedom Bird!" :) What started as me just wanting to fix up my old high school muscle car has evolved into a SEMA story in PHR that gives credit where credit is due... Chad, Fletcher's Customs and this great community coming together and all the vendors/sponsors supporting the build!! Still blows me away every day! I just can't thank everyone involved often enough!!! It's been so long in the making that sometimes it literally seems like a dream... but in just 6 more weeks I'll be able to pinch myself at SEMA to make sure it's real! :wow: :lateral: |

Kind of like an early christmas huh? Nice!!

It's been a crazy week. Bodywork is done!!!!!! We are playing the waiting game right now. Waiting on the few parts to come in from Anvil and then full assembly of car with glass and trim. Make sure everything is perfect and then in color the weekend of October 2nd! WE will be building exhaust, nut and bolting the car, and remainder of the wiring and plumbing this week. Then tear down for the big spray weekend shortly.
I know where the "light at the end of tunnel" saying comes from now. As I can finally start to see a glimpse!!! A few snags this week, but nothing that scares me. All interior panels are at the interior shop being covered this next week also. SO after paint, it's together and hopefully a few days of street terror before SEMA!!!! I can't think my team enough!! Jerry, Josh and Wayne have been knocking things out this last week! |
Ty ---
LOL It's like a Rolex for your car!!! Love it!! |
Chad check your PM box!!!
|
I know it's early for a Saturday... 0600 EST here... but I get to go see the car for the first time in nearly a year today!! :willy:

Sweet You'll be wound up tighter than a spring after you see it from being so excited. Like Toyota says Oh What A Feeling! Have a great time.

We didn't make it to paint this weekend!!! We had front fender issues!! Ty's originals were trashed and had a ton of mud and dent and dings in them. So we searched the country over and found a set of "scuff and shoot" as the guy described 71 fenders with the vents like Ty's originals. Well after 10 days they finally showed Tuesday of this week. Off to the media blaster they go!! That when my nightmare starts. The "scuff and shoot" fenders are are trashed also. Driver has basketball size rust hole behind wheel, that had a piece of sheetmetal riveted in it with a half gallon of mud covering. The other side was almost as bad also. So some phone calls later we found a set of 72-73 without vent up in Warner Robins, one of Ty's friends had them. So I drove up and picked them up. All in all they were pretty good. Couple of small patches and pull a few dents and they were good to go. We lost 10 days waiting on them, $525 for the junkers, and then another two days secureing and fixing the new ones.
All the anvil parts are installed and lined up pretty decent. A few of them needed a little bit of work, but for prototypes straight out of the mold they are really good. All mechanical aspects are done, lines, motor, tranny , etc. Still waiting on driveshaft this week. Interior is pretty much done and seats will be arriving from Arizen this week. Paint will be flying this Friday!!! Once paint is on car should go together quickly as everything else is basically done. It was nice to have Ty down and let him witness how fun and hellacious building a car can be!! I think he was amazed that one little problem can turn into a huge 5-6 hour fix, that then requires fixing everything else behind it!! |
Thanks for the update, Chad! As you know that's car building and used parts buying at it's best! Keep the positive attitude it's the only way to fly!!

Was an aluminum block ever a consideration? Just looking for opinions...

(Custom rear AC bracket fabricated by Jerry!) http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/v...M/DSC04344.jpg Just one of the many "time suckers" of the day... how much shorter can we make the vent tubes? We figured it out with a quick call to Pro Systems tech line! And we didn't even drop anything down the carb! http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/v...M/DSC04316.jpg |

Good times! Less than a week tell paint...right? Have they fit the inner fenders and valance yet? With all the Anvil parts there now...does that mean you aren't waiting on anything and can hammer down now?

These guys are amazing!!!!! They've forgetten more than I'll ever know!! :hail: There's just no way I could have attempted this project without them, their support, and their continued patience as this old 'bird seems to be fighting them every step of the way... And thanks for not making fun of me for wanting to get in the car for the first time in almost a year an making "car sounds" like my 5 year old! :woot: http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/v...M/DSC04295.jpg ... the SEMA thrash continues at Fletcher's Customs! :lateral: |
