did i miss the pic on how you ended up matting it to the intake TB?

you know now that i see it with the wheels on it its the american version of your 996tt!
those will look sweet in the garage next to each other.

You apparently know your racing shoes. The Piloti's won out over my usual flip flops that day. :D

Found a silicone 4" to 3" "humped" silicone transition on the back shelf at TurboHoses in Livermore. It was about 4 -1/8" long and was pretty much perfect. Will get pics this weekend probably when I go up for the tune session.

You are correct - I wasn't intending to mirror the Porsche, but I just like that gray and all black look I guess I just had to do it!

Garage? I wish I had a garage! I live in the city where 2 parking spaces are pretty damn near impossible, so I am still looking for a secure nearby storage for this thing. Glad you reminded me - I need to do some searching for that again! :willy:

skatinjay27 05-13-2009 03:01 AM

Flash68 05-14-2009 10:16 AM

Thanks guys. Yeah I love the way it looked last weekend and surprisingly we didn't feel/hear any rubbing on the little shakedown run. But they raised it up about 5/8" to give us a little better breathing room.

The headers actually fit really well and don't hang as low as I was thinking they might . The Hotchkis SFC's were the lowest point under the car I believe when we looked at it.

Yeah maybe when I go do some burnouts and wheelies in front of Tony's local police station, they will go after him and give him the ticket.

A couple new vids from this past weekend's tuning session. It's really fun to watch a guy with a laptop plug into my 41 year old car and dial in all the vitals.

Thanks Jody. Yeah idling seems to be a lot easier to dial in once you find the vacuum leak and clean the TPS sensor. :D

And the most boost we have seen so far is 7.5#. You built a helluva motor there pal!

Thanks. We've only seen 7.5# so far but we are running a really thin belt temporarily since we shredded the first one last weekend. Jody and Don (previous owner of the motor) had it up to 14# on the dyno but that was with no intercooler. So I should see a max boost of 10-12# I think with the smaller pulley and the intercooler.

Yes all on 91 octane.

How's the ride and handling on it now Dave?

What if any changes will be made regarding the above?

Not sure on the handling yet as I have not turned a corner at speed. The turning radius isn't fantastic but that was expected with the 275 front.

The weight transfer on acceleration seems like a nice compromise IMO.

I think I am gonna have them spend some time straightening out the steering angles as it's still quite choppy. Might switch out the Unisteer R&P for a Steeroids piece, which the Gearhead team says works a lot better and is a better product.

Brakes are pretty potent with the hydroboost. That is something I have to get used to!

The shifting is really choppy compared to what I am used to. I might add the Pro 5.0 base at some point if I don't like the feel after awhile.

Hope to iron out a few more things in the coming weeks and get it on the chassis dyno at SVS for more FAST tuning.

Yeah I know. I have driven plenty of muscle cars before and owned 2 before this one. But this is an entirely different animal.

Both times I have gotten in the Porsche to drive home after testing/tuning the Camaro the past 2 weekends, I have felt that major letdown. (but that may have a little to do with the fact I need new spark plugs and it sputters a little bit at high rpms LOL).

Still, you just can't beat a raw, earth shaking, American muscle car. :)

Vegas69 05-21-2009 07:04 AM

It's a raw experience. I compare it to riding my custom motorcycle. You feel the power, smell all that gas your burning, after all it's alot of steel. Then you jump in your porsche and it's like a sewiing machine and a lazy boy. Mine drives so nice but I have solid motor mounts so I feel everything. Everybody loves it when they ride in the car. My fenders kind of throb or shake at idle. It's a different trip and it's addicting. Once you get her dialed in it's a whole new ballgame. That's a big part of it .

Yeah I miss that intense smell of gasoline and shaking body panels. :D

But I must say I wouldn't quite call the Porsche a lazy boy... it does have coilovers, front/rear swaybars and 19s, so it's kinduva rough ride too.

But back to the musclecar. Can't wait to get it dialed in and really start hammerin on it. This ain't no show car that's for sure!

6D9 05-31-2009 10:51 PM

any updates??

Flash68 05-31-2009 11:58 PM

decided not to take it to GoodGuys with the Gearhead crew. Wanted to get some more things adjusted and finish some body/paint stuff. Realign the intercooler and piping a little, and get some more break in miles on the clutch so we can dyno tune up at SVS in Sac.

Should be ready to rock soon. I wanna get it on the dragstrip ASAP and see what I can do. Trying to get Jason to set up another of their group drag days at Sac Raceway in July maybe. :unibrow:

That would be cool! I would be down to meet up with you guys if you have another group thing going at sac raceway. I still need to get a meth kit and tune it with a wideband. Keep me posted!

yeah man I will keep hitting up Jason to set something up, and if not, a few of us can just go up there sometime. I know Mike P wants to take his newly finished Camaro up there too after some dyno tuning, which we both plan to do very soon.

You gonna run 100% meth of a mix of water/meth?

Looking into the scheduling for another event. Weather could be a hassle if it hits 100+, but let's schedule this thing regardless! I'll keep you guys posted! ;)

Next you guys will be declaring your own bogus Gearhead holiday.

Then you'll have another first ... canceled due to excessive sunshine.

Freakin' left coasters.
