Thanks guys, now the real ideas will start to become reality.

Glad to see the build will remain under your hands Rodger. Keep us updated on the pics. Pinky swear!! :rules:

Looks like this might be the new direction. Orange Paint with the Gripp Equipped Drop Kick wheels. Should be interesting.

'63 Grand Sport meets '69 Camaro...
Nice look. |
I like the orange better than the green. Those whipples make some serious power, Kurt just put our blower test mule on the dyno last week, first pull it made 962 hp and over 800 lb/ft@3,500 rpm, the timing was only 13* and it was lean, we had to stop since it pitched the water pump pulley off.

Well I'm a little behind on updating this project but let me see what I can get handled this Morning.
We did our first months worth of work for the new owner, Troy. We are working to try and get the engine as low as possible with the Dailey Dry sump pan that is on it. We have a ton of clearance under the pan but the limiting factor is the bellhousing. So we have been exploring going to a relocated starter with a triple 7.25" clutch from Tilton or QuarterMaster. http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...-2013007-1.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...-2013006-1.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...23-2013005.jpg The customer really wants to run a bad ass supercharged engine and he has great contacts with the guys at Whipple. So we have been exploring how to get a 2.9 - 4.0L super charger on this car with out having it look like a prostreet car. We have been playing with different ideas to try and make it really slick. If you notice this blower and manifold combo has a rear entry throttle body with completely hidden injectors in the manifold. This game plan would be awesome with the rear billet aluminum firewall we are laying out to design. Plus this low profile manifold and pulley system from Wegner might keep things under the hood. http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...ngewhipple.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...lowerdrive.jpg The blower manifold mock up in this picture is a little high still but, like I said we think we can drop the engine 2" still. The sheetmetal is just a mock up to begin designing a billet firewall that will be machine from 5/8 plate and become a lightened structural member of the car. http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...29-2013021.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...29-2013022.jpg You can see it still looks a little "Prostreet" with the full intercooler and such. http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...29-2013023.jpg You can see the way the aluminum firewall will set in the car around the designed frame pieces once it is built. It will go in from the front and bolt in from the interior. http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...29-2013024.jpg In this picture you can see how we have brought the upper tube crossmembers back to the reinforcement plate that goes inside the tailpanel. http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...29-2013004.jpg In this picture you can see the mock up fuel tanks we set up to define the perfect shape before we send the these to Rick's Tanks to make the dual pump system for this car to handle the Horsepower. http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...29-2013017.jpg |
Once the rear diffuser is defined we will mount the battery in the center of the tubes but closer to the axle center line to minimize the swing weight.
You can also see the extension of the rear valance all the way forward to the back of the wheel tubs. You can also see how beefy our chassis tables are. You can't make a chassis table out of material weaker then the car and intend it to anything more the just jack stands. Plus you can't make the table and roller and expect it to be level where ever you move it in the shop.   http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...29-2013020.jpg Finally here is the mock up of the pedal system that will allow us to make custom pedals that we can machine and give us a really nice steering column angle. Hanging pedals would be tough in this car as the reservoirs would be really tight to the hood and tough to fill and the hanging pedals would limit the angle of the column and require more angle to send it through the firewall below the master cylinders and inbetween the brake and gas pedal usually. http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...29-2013025.jpg We should start back on this months round of work next week. It is coming along nicely and I hope to start doing some heavy design work on the front end of the car. Thanks for taking time to look. |
Dorger, :peepwall: this is going to be your EPIC build right there!

Rodger thx for posting updates on this one. Can't wait for details on your pipeline builds :teaser:
I know Troy has a line with Whipple and they do make great power, but Maggie has a couple of new models that fit under the hood. http://www.magnacharger.com/p-113-co...arger-kit.aspx Not sure if you're running a 6.2 or 7.0 and I'm sure you know their line up, but I thought I'd throw it out there. |

Ok....... Back to the awesome Camaro the Ironworks is creating! --Eric |
I've never heard of anyone that was happy with a mini-clutch on anything street driven. Something for the owner to think about if this is going to be a driven car. I've seen a lot of people start down that road thinking "I will live with it" and invariably about 6 months later I see them going back to a 10.5" clutch or turning it into a track car. It might work with some of the newer CF bad assery out there, after all some of the exotics get away with it but I'd definitely do some testing on a mule somewhere.
I may be out on a limb here but with all the slick pro-tour cars we've seen I almost wonder if a hint of pro-street bad assery might not work, although, given the direction of this particular car, probably not. Would look cool on something though. |
I love that First Gen Nova!!!!

The customer wants the blower under the hood. And he is willing to do all way can to achieve that. Thanks for the compliments guys. If Eric runs out of daughters to get married we might start back on the old 62 vert. Darrell is begin to pull ahead of Eric by a a ways in project Slow Motion. |
Love what you guys are doing with this car. Good luck!

I think we should rename Eric's car,how bout project

In order to get the required ground clearance, you would have to use a button style flywheel and a with a ring gear that is mounted on top of the clutch cover. Like this one from Quarter Master: http://quartermasterusa.compperforma...ing-gear_1.jpg The main issue will be making a mount for the reverse mount starter. It may be possible to machine the Corvette torque tube bellhousing and weld on a mount that would accommodate the reverse mount starter. It's all doable... Here is a reverse mount bellhousing that works with your basic circle track style transmission (g-force, rankin, Jerico, etc...) http://quartermasterusa.compperforma.../1/110100r.jpg You may even be able to take that bellhousing and cut out the starter mounting pocket and weld it to the Corvette torque tube bellhousing. The Camaro - EX Dave version - just needs to be twin turbo not blown....
There! You heard it here first. |

Hey, Rodger why doesn't the customer go with twins? To much extra stuff? To normal now a days? Or just plain ol wants a blower. Mark |

Kamaka says we should gain about a half a SHAKA with this new bellhousing.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...14-2013022.jpg :mock: :mock: :mock: |
WOW that's very nice :king: Rodger who makes that bell housing? Or is it a Iron Works skunk works item :hello:
|
Looks like a Tilton bellhousing.
Andrew |
So we got the Tilton bellhousing mocked up. We are going to machine a custom end for the torque tube to make attaching the torque tube to a standard bellhousing a solution. We are setting up the engine plate for the car. I THINK....... We have the engine front drive system figured out. Not quite sure I can put it into words, but I know what I'm supposed to do to make it clean like the customer wants. Now we just have to make it a reality, should be pretty awesome when complete.
We have continued some work on the the middle of the car. We are waiting on the ZR1 hubs for the car to begin to mock up wheels. We lowered the torque tube tunnel to go with the lowered engine position that we achiveved with the smaller bellhousing. We are still working with Whipple to get the blower manifold and drive system finalized to move to the front of the car. Enough Blah Blah Blah. Here are some pics. http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...-2013002-1.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...21-2013015.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...31-2013003.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...31-2013004.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...31-2013005.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...31-2013006.jpg We also began welding out the floor sections. Time to design floor insert panels. http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...31-2013009.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...31-2013010.jpg |
