More progress

Found a good place for the trunk release.
http://i370.photobucket.com/albums/o...9445300025.jpg
Got all the exhaust welded up and smoothed out. I will never do that again.
http://i370.photobucket.com/albums/o...4944850007.jpg
Then started on the gas tank. Made a full size mock up of the tank to make sure everything fits. I have a stainless tank made with the vaporworx internals. Carl C was helpful to give me some parameters to work with.

Rodger at Ironworks got my tank mounts and tie downs laser cut, WAY easier than hand cutting. Can't thank him enough for these.

War 05-16-2011 04:05 PM

Got the tie downs tacked in place. I'm going to start on the rear pan and mock up some exhaust tips next.

Made some close outs that will tie into the rear pan.

I can kinda see it in the pictures, but what kind of wheel barrow did you use to make the outside curve of the fuel tank again?

Rodger

The car looks amazing. I love the Tie Down just make sure you roll that bad boy in a trailer and actually tie is down to make sure there is enough clearence and that the location actually works.

War 05-17-2011 06:33 PM

So, what do you guys think about the location for these. Although I guess I'm committed since I just cut two big azz holes in my pan. Just thought it would be easy to adjust them in the trunk instead of under the car. Now I just need to get someone to machine me some covers.

GregWeld 05-17-2011 07:31 PM

Put a 30* bend in your tie downs -- you're never going to get a hook (twisted flat style) in there and not interfere with your fuel tank... as it looks from the pics... Maybe there's more space than the pics show. But you might want to test that before you're done mocking up.

Beautiful work as usual. When you moving to Giantsville to go full time? :D

Giantsville,... . I laughed my a$$ off on that one. Good one Mr. Weld. Jason you should be doing this full time. That work looks every bit as good as any pro car I've worked on.

UNREAL work on this project

Oh My Gawd !!!

This is one of the sickest First Gen Camaro builds I've ever seen. The craftsmanship is beyond my imagination. Jr and I can't believe what we are seeing in this build thread. UN-FREAKIN-REAL !!!!!!!!!

I hope to see this piece of rolling art just once in my life, and I'll know I died and went to automotive heaven !!!!!

I guess with the car up on the lift the camera angle gave a short perspective. At normal hieght the hook is about 2" lower than the tank so I hope it will be ok. I would test it but I don't own a car trailer. I'm waiting for you to buy a new one so I can buy your old one, It'll match my truck perfect. Thanks for the compliment.

Giantsville, maybe, my wife did tell me to get out of the house and do something.

War 05-18-2011 12:48 PM

Oh......I'm sorry. Are you vertically challenged as well? I didn't connect the dots with the mini truck thing. My bad.

Hay Marty - he is from the valley of the Giants also. Vertically challenged guys are thrown from the cliff. Down into the valley.

Yep, I too picked the wrong parents. No chance of height in my kids future either.

ps I used to have a Yota that stood 9 foot 6.

Roger you Giant you stay out of this. Just because you can't fit in a normal car like the rest of the world you don't have to take it out on us short guys.

BTW - you doing any riding on that niner of yours ?

65 347 05-18-2011 03:37 PM

Jason
The car is looking awesome! Wish I had half the skill you have.
Mike

GregWeld 05-18-2011 05:05 PM

Next time stand on a box to take the correct photos.... lest we all get the wrong impressions. Size is everything. Just ask Rodger. :willy: :woot:

tones2SS 05-18-2011 05:46 PM

Wow, great thinking Jason. Very clever indeed.
Keep up the great work. You have a great vision.
