Gaslight 08-19-2013 12:06 PM

I do a lot of stuff for local people. Usually design it in Solidworks then machine it or make it from sheet metal. Here is one I just finished. Its actually for myself. I am installing a 4 cam all aluminum V8 Lexus engine in my Nova. Lexus never made one with a manual transmission. So I machined an adapter from 6061-T6.

Nice work Gaslight!

WSSix 08-19-2013 08:54 PM

That's a pretty slick looking piece, gaslight. Be sure to make a thread on your build too!

Thanks for the link Rodger. Very cool stuff there.

glassman 08-19-2013 09:36 PM

Gaslight, we live for this stuff! please start a build thread or post your links to another site. That build will be unusually fantastic!! Or just some basic pics...Mike

My go to machinist who is also a tool and die maker has been fabricating and machining many of the parts on this scratch built Miller race car a local prewar die hard is building. Using copies of the original Miller drawings they are duplicating the car as close to possible as to how miller himself may have built this car that never existed. I think the engine and the wheel hubs are about the only original pieces used as seen in the pics. Any cast parts needed are being cast and machined. The only one I have a pic of is the raw transmission case. It is truly a work of art.

That was pretty cool. I'm always blown away by the machinery in a big factory. The factory itself is usually more impressive than the stuff they make lol.

Twoblackmarks... 10-07-2013 01:07 PM

Now this is great thread! :) I have not seen trough all 42 pages yet though..!

In the car business I really love looking at the bonneville/high speed guys, those make anything and everything from scratch, especially those that run something different like straight eigths, and really old stuff and modify/make own heads and fabricates everything themselves. And those that make real race cars, even the modern ones. ;)

That is what I like to call real HOT RODDING. :)

I have been wanting to give the desert racing thing a try. That jeep does not help me focus on work. I'm pitting for my first desert race this coming weekend at the Henderson 250.

4WD guys make us look like a bunch of pikers. I'm always in awe of those machines when I click on their fab links. Lots o' cash ola !

I actually started in the 4wd world but even though Washington is chock full of forests and mountains (I mountain bike every weekend in the summer) there are very few places to really 4WD thanks to the greens.

syborg tt 12-02-2013 05:07 PM

I jeep is high on my bucket list of want to build vehicles.

and Roger I can't wait for you to get into dessert racing as I am certain you will build something over the top.
