2nd Chance Camaro - Setting the Ride Height
2012 09-23 Update - Setting the Ride Height www.2ndchancecamaro.com Evening all, Okay time to set the car at the desired ride height. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...e43042d-me.jpg The front is going to need some work to get it a little lower. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...84d91c5-me.jpg Looks like we are off about 1 1/2" that should be easy to fix http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...cd869a3-me.jpg Pictures hosted by www.garagescene.net |

Hi Chris,
I may end up swapping to the 275 up front like you've done. I really like that tire combo. Plus the 26" tall profile might help me not bottom out so much ps - your car looks awesome and I love the front spoiler and we need more pics of it !!!!!! Quote:

2nd Chance Camaro - To 335 or not !!![
2012 09-24 Update - To 335 or not !!! www.2ndchancecamaro.com Evening all, There has been a lot of progress on the car and I am playing catch up on the posts. So here are the two tires side by side. 335 on the left and 295 on the right. Since the goal it actually drive this car I am pretty sure I am going to be using the one on the right. However I will still make sure the bigger 335 fits under the car. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...0fd5c9f-me.jpg We did however find another use for this tire. Yep it makes kid smile !!! http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...6e3f732-me.jpg Pictures hosted by www.garagescene.net |
Marty,Very Cool.I remember when my boys would fit inside a tire.
|
Either tire will look killer on there.
|
I like the idea of having the option of running either. I am glad you put a picture up of a 295 because I was planning on staying around that size with my Firebird. It gives me some perspective.

To do the math it goes like this 265 mm x .35 = 92.75 mm sidewall 295 mm x .35 = 103.25 mm sidewall 275 mm x .35 = 96.25 mm sidewall but a 265/40 would be 265 mm x .4 = 106mm So if you are maxed out on width go to a taller profile in the front then the rear. The profile number is just a percentage to the bigger the difference in width from front to rear the bigger the profile change needs to be. It is a pet peeve of mine to not have the same profile unless you trying for a big a little tire combo. If we were running a 335 rear tire and a 275 front tire the math would look like this. 335 mm x .30 = 100.5 275 mm x .35 = 96.25 275 mm x .40 = 110.00 or 285 mm x .35 = 99.75 Hopefully this info is slightly helpful. I have to work up tire combos all the time and it can be tough to get a perfect matched set as far as profile, compound, width and matching tread pattern. Cool Maverick |

Marty, Your camaro will look cool with either width. Use the narrower ones for going to the mountain-bike trails, and the wider tires for showing your car, like at Columbus! --Eric |

http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/v..._897834534.jpg And I like the taller sidewall, but I guess I'm a little more old school than some... 255/45/18s front and 295/40/18s rear. http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/v...-05Sema821.jpg |
2nd Chance Camaro - Making Room for the Edelbrock Headers
2012 09-25 Update - Making Room for the Edelbrock Headers www.2ndchancecamaro.com Evening All, To keep things simple I wanted off the shelf headers so I ordered up a set of Edlebrock shorty headers for a 2010 Camaro. Very nice piece I may order a set for my 2010 Bumble Bee. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d218ee2-me.jpg We needed to add a little extra clearance so the guys at High Speed Welding notched the frame to clear one of the tubes on the passenger side. The good news is the drivers side fit perfectly. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...47d2e5d-me.jpg A close up of the motor mount stands welded to the stock subframe. I also used the Edelbrock set back plates so I could use the stock style motor mounts. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...dd4dc1b-me.jpg Looking down you see that the collector hits the subframe so a little more work is needed on the passenger side to make the header work. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...eb58d58-me.jpg One of the reason for the shorty headers is ground clearance. Since the car will be sitting 6" off the ground the exhaust needs to tuck up tight to the floor. There is only 4" of space between the floor and the bottom of the subframe thus there is no true way to hide the exhaust unless you run a down-pipe style exhaust. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...4c1c4f4-me.jpg pictures hosted by www.garagescene.net |
If you poke around on tire rack's website, you can find the specifications section for each individual tire maker's tires. There they will list actual widths and heights. The numbers on the tires are as accurate and clothing sizes. The only down side is it has to be a brand they sell.
I also say left :) |
Nice to see the progress....I dont know what you guys meen by "left", but Marty, I'd just like to let you know that every time i crash on my mountain bike and dirt bike, its left...lol

Thanks guys for the kudos on the Mav. Means a lot coming from you all.
I like the 295. Anything more would be overkill and more costly to replace. And in my opinion, out of balance to the front tire size. Besides, I've barely got enough power now to break them loose with any kind authority. And speaking of mountain bikes, I picked this up last weekend. Nothing fancy. Just something to beat on and commute during the winter here. Its a heavy pig but should make me stronger and leaner for the spring. Yesterdays epic fail was realizing I forgot how to bunny hop without being clipped into the pedals. OUCH! https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-J...4-30-13_98.jpg |

Screw the car - the Bike is Awesome.
Okay since your forgot how to Bunny Hop with clipless pedals and your riding "Flats" you need to go check out www.bikejames.com he is a MTB specific trainer and an advocate for "Flats" Remember "Clips" are for Tie's not Mountain Bikes. I made the swtich back to flats about 1 1/2 ago and just sold most of my clipless stuff this week. My riding skills have excelled more in the last year. I can rail trails that I have struggled with for years. Trust me don't look back leave those cleapless pedals for the Roadieee's. ps - buy your self a good pair of Teva or FiveTen sticky bottom shoe's and you wil be more connected to the bike then with clipless. 2nd Chance Camaro - High Speed Welding Edelbrock Exhaust Mod Post 1
2012 10-22 Update - High Speed Welding Edelbrock Exhaust Mod Post 1 www.2ndchancecamaro.com Afternoon All, The guys at High Speed Welding are finishing up the exhaust and it should be done by the end of the week. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...29f7523-me.jpg The goal is to tuck the exhaust up tight to the stock floor pan. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...97ea122-me.jpg Close up of the new downpipes on the shorty headers http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...c46ea29-me.jpg You can see that nothing is hanging below the Stock Sub-Frame as the car will be 5 1/2" off the ground. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...ee5ac64-me.jpg In order to tuck the muffler tight to the floor they had to raise a section of the stock floor pan. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...befc6e0-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...bad4128-me.jpg It was very important to keep the factory rear seat for my girls to ride in. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...9443329-me.jpg Finished front half of the exhaust. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...6feba85-me.jpg & http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...65a404a-me.jpg & http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...124a844-me.jpg The G-Force cross member made tucking the exhaust up easy. This is a great piece ! http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...95bd37f-me.jpg Up and over the axle is going to be exciting as the car has been lowered 3" in the rear so it's going to be a tight squeeze. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...4249aa2-me.jpg I love how pictures make things look closer then they actually are. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...e84e87d-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...0a1e890-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...85238b0-me.jpg More to come this week.
