This is a "promo" video from the Track event I took the R8 Spyder to at INDE Motorsports Ranch down by Tucson AriDzona...
There were only a few cars invited to the event.... and they were nice one! There were two R8's --- our V8 droptop and a V10 Coupe... The coupe got passed by the 100 hp less V8 :unibrow: :D --- but I could not keep up with the SLS or the green Porsche Cayman... that thing was race prepped and the driver could wheel it. The SLS was one of 3 cars brought by one guy -- the SLS - a real 300 Gullwing -- and a C63 Black Edition. Our car is at 1:17 and again at 2:30ish |
|
The third one from the left will do that all night for $50... All you have to do is lay there spread out like a starfish. :woot:
|
|
Greg, cool video. Looks like an absolute blast.
|
After listening to this car in person, if I owned it, it would be my daily driver! Then I would be on a first name basis w/all my nieghbors!!! Bazinga!:unibrow:

It was a very fun event... was nice to match up on the track with some other pretty serious hardware -- some real good drivers... and everyone out just enjoying a couple real nice days. We split into two groups - fast group and slower group... I was in the fast group and the all wheel drive and controllability of the R8 was amazing. The tires - not so much. |
Jack just sent me this pic of my Mustang taken a few days after finishing it -- and before the stripes went on -- carrying the right front on turn 2 at Sonoma (then called Sears Point).

Car looks great with or without da streipz.
What's yer preference GW? http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k1...ps4c727dee.jpg |
I like the stripes but if I could have purchased it, I would have tried to figure out how to run the normal Shelby hood and scoop, and not lose a bunch of power. I think the intake/filter setup required the cowl hood for clearance. Of course, I also wanted to put it back on the street for a street/track car, so I'm not real bright.........
|
Just don't let the car see that photo, get some enjoyment out of her before she figures it out on her own that she's now a glue horse. :D

So, kudos to Jack and not Greg. :poke: :D |

Yeah I just LOVE Faceybook! Now if I could get some Clearasil and get rid of these zits... and I've picked up this funny Valley Girl hand flip thing... Just a minute I have to Tweeter that I blew my nose to my 7,000 followers! OMG! Ta ta MNBFFL Quote:
I'd prefer the stripes WITH the front wheel carried. :bitchslap: Quote:
Race cars don't need no stock parts man! Quote:
I put on earphones and play stuff by "The Spinners" when I'm on track. I just love the G's she can generate as the azz end comes around. Quote:
Did! Did! HAD nice fit and finish..... I must buff out that spot on the driver side tail light.... and fix that spot where the tire caught the inner lip driver rear.... :warning: :bang:  :trophy-1302: :trophy-1302: :trophy-1302: :hello: |

Well I'm still not Faceybooking..... or Twating....or whatever else is the latest way to "socialize". :action-smiley-027: |
Well..... racing is fun isn't it??
Last time I ran Sonoma Raceway --- the "lash cap" on one of the titanium exhaust valves let go (it's integral to the valve unlike regular lash caps)... couldn't find the piece -- and the end of the valve got beat up in the process... so left the car at McGee Motorsports... and he pulled the engine and got it over to Oddo Performance for a "freshening". I haven't used the car since that was all done - along with a fresh rebuild on the Jerico and a new clutch and pressure plate etc... along with corner weighting and a different alignment. Went down to Sonoma to run the Nor Cal Shelby event ---- and promptly got "meat balled" (a flag for a mechanical issue).... poor little mustang was smoking BADLY.... on lift.... everything running fine! Plenty of power! Smooth tranny... and the alignment felt REALLY GREAT! ..... so I come in a look all over the car... under and over.... no oil leaks .... no oily anything. The motor was dyno'd --- so that should all be good. Go back out for second session --- MEAT BALL #88.... after about 5 laps.... come back in and go over the car again this time jacking it up front and back. Dry as a bone. BUT -- that always big azz BUTT -- the exhaust should be grey ash... and it's BLACK and wet... so we now know the oil is internal and not a track hazard. I torque the intake manifold --- it was loose as a goose! That could be the issue! Sucking oil from the valley maybe.... okay -- back out for third session and it's smoking WAY less.... BUT --- damn big azz BUTT --- one of club members has been running behind me and he comes over to the garage to tell me -- very nicely -- that he was certain he was going into the wall on turn 2 -- because he couldn't see a thing --- and there was so much smoke he figured I'd blown the motor and he was just going to slide straight into the wall... Now we're laughing about this -- but it's not funny -- because a less experienced driver might have! Luckily Tom is a very experienced guy and he just drove through the plume... (to his surprise I might add!). Okay --- I'm done.... I'm not going to be "that guy".... and 'cause a mishap. Turns out that McGee is open on Sunday because they're prepping a bunch of vintage stuff for Monterey.... so I take old yeller over and drop it off.... and ask that "if they could" --- they'd maybe get with Oddo and see if this is a simple fix so I don't have to get all the way home to Seattle only to find out they replaced a $10 intake manifold gasket and she's all fine... Sunday afternoon I take off and go to Bakersfield and camp in front of Ironworks.... might as well goof off for a couple days until I hear about whether or not the motor needs to come out -- or is fixed. Tuesday I get a call -- she's all done... turns out it was a pencil sized "hole" that developed in the intake runner in the head -- due to them being ported and heat cycled a bunch of times... and Tony has fixed her all good as new. The aluminum heads were ported by Mike Chapman and they have been run a few times... LOL FORGOT!!! Here's a link to GOT BLUE MILK (the track photo guys) that shows a small amount of "blue" emanating from said "race car". http://gotbluemilk.com/web130803/88/...s/image12.html Anyway --- I didn't get much seat time -- but that's the way things go sometimes. |

Take advantage of that trailer and get a backup car for situations like this........like something with a reliable 500 hp LS whatever motor. :welcome3:

Funny you should mention such a thing..... You been talkin' to Charley?? |
Quote:
But I did mention the backup scenario at the Truck 'n Travel! :D |
We discussed all weekend -- having a spare car....
He (Charley) has a Dale Earnhart Cup car... and that would be fun and different... but then I'm thinking either another Mustang (Vintage racer) or maybe a mid year vintage Vette.... for something different. I'm struggling with "how different" or -- similar.... What I'd really like is to have a vintage Lola etc. I like this..... http://www.motorsportsmarket.com/pag...il.asp?car=202 |
Way to go Meat Ball!!
That has ring to it. I see a new nickname ahead for you Greg! Bummer on having your track day cut short. Glad to hear she's all fixed up again! |

I'd seriously consider this for the task: http://media.gm.com/content/media/us...amaro-z28.html Turnkey reliable 500 hp, dry-sump, 7K redline, 6 spd w/ 3.91 rear end, trans & diff cooling, 1.05 g cornering, 1.5 g braking................dealer service centers everywhere. It might even have a warranty and you know the engineer! |

New cars just aren't fun... they do everything well and are too easy to drive. They've got huge brakes -- they have ABS -- they have - dare I say it - no soul. You put 590 hp in a 3000# car --- on skinny 245's.... and you have a hoot on your hands! |

Having two broken high maintenance vintage cars sitting in the pits would be less fun than lapping in a Prius.........more embarrassing too! :D Bet the Z/28 would pass sound even at Laguna. My primary objective at track days was to get as many laps as I was physically and mentally capable of, what I did it with was secondary it just had to have good brakes, suspension, and be reliable. This was my best backup bike, it just wouldn't run much over 135 mph, adequate for T-Hill, but not Miller, PIR, etc.: http://sieg.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/...IMGP5104-M.jpg |
Oh I agree with your reasoning.... it's just not me. I like the old crap. I like ill mannered - nasty sounding - fun to slide around "hot rods". New cars -- I have plenty of those. Tracking the R8 was about the most boring day I've ever had at a track...

So Bondurant's Corvettes ain't fun to drive?
If you want to have fun build one of these: https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.n...13154755_n.jpg I don't care who you are......that there's funny! |
