Awesome Al. Great work! You and your boys are setting a new standard. Any aftermarket pieces potentially coming from the build?

GrabberGT 10-19-2015 11:50 AM

Great idea for the aerocatch bezel. I have a set to install on my carbon hood but have hesitated because I didnt want to cut out that large of a portion of the hood structure. I may just look into bonding the nuts into the bezel since a machined bezel is not available.

Thanks guys for the props, its been a while since we've updated the thread.

Here a few random pics of the details stuff.....

Custom made bracket for the Racepac data logger. All the bolts are ARP 12 point stainless that have been milled, blasted and nickel plated

The Smart Wire eliminates all the fuse boxes and relays. It also uses half the wires you's normally would need in a harness. We calculated a weight savings of about 20 lbs .

The floor mats were just placed for the pictures. Once installed, they will bold to the floor.

I think you guys are setting a new standard for how clean, and functional builds should be.

Extinguisher pluming.

Its all about summitry. A lot of thought was given to the routing process. Notice the lines follow the bead roll in the metal.

I just stumbled into this thread. Holy moly, this is the most OCD awesome 5th gen ever built! I've owned 3 of the 5th gens, still have a '14 1LE SS. You have a great eye for detail, and obviously a lot of patience. I'd love to see your skills put towards a classic Camaro.

Tony, in retrospect, we would have rather put the work that has gone into G5.R onto a first gen. There’s not much left that is a Gen5 other than the body. This is just one of those things were it gets away from you.

Thanks for the props guys. We have some updated to do on the thread when we get a few minutes.

Al Moreno 07-05-2016 02:25 PM

We are at the point were the project is most enjoyable. Most all fab is down and now we are just putting her together.

We received the trans back from RPM. They did their Stage 5 performance upgrade on it. We also replaced every bolt with ARP.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...924/iGfAEy.jpg

We also replaced the stock slave with RAM's through out bearing.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...924/eujBbs.jpg

We also decided to replace the Mantic clutch with RPS twin disc carbon clutch. We have heard nothing but great things about this clutch. More expensive but worth it in the long run.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/xCgCzp.jpg

We added a little heat protection to the starter.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/6Eq948.jpg

DC Powers made us this alternator to match the 8 lbs Braille battery. They made machined both end out of billet and we had them anodized gun metal gray before they put the unit together.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...924/JveKt7.jpg

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/8j57n1.jpg

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/1o90VR.jpg

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...921/PdhJ4B.jpg

We used ll Much vapor canister for both the gas tank and the diff. We located on on each wheel well.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...924/57yKTK.jpg

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...924/G5gMIi.jpg

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/81awBr.jpg

Here you can see the breather on the bottom side. Still need to connect the line to the tank in this picture.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...924/sDb8WZ.jpg

Becuase we relocated the gas fill to the trunk, we had to come up with a solution for the vapor line, we used this slick valve that will close if the car were to flip upside down.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/y7ofN6.jpg

Al Moreno 07-05-2016 03:01 PM

Had a bunch of interior parts painted to get rid of the plastic look.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...921/py58Ts.jpg

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...921/7p0Hmp.jpg

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/Haczkg.jpg

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/C3pxgO.jpg

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...924/XvBc1I.jpg

Smoothed and painted the underside of the hood vent black.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...921/rCE3iC.jpg

There must be 100 hours into this hood vent! This will give you an idea what we start with. Each vent was slightly enlarged. We removed the 6 studs mounts as we are going to epoxy it onto the hood. Then it was time to smooth it. You just cant skim coat the part as the gray will show through on the to side. So had to build it with high build black primer and sand most of it off. This process was repeated four times before painting it black and cleared. The top side was given three coats of cleared followed by black candy and three more coats of clear. The end results is amazing but most wont know the amount of effort that has gone into just this one piece.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/GUC5MZ.jpg

Painted the down bars black on the carbon fiber grille.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/I7Lsl9.jpg

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...924/CLlZfR.jpg

Couldn't leave the peddles unpainted.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...921/75bwGx.jpg

Could get these powder coated as the rubber would melt, so we painted them to match the powder coating. We might not use them as we are making billet drop spindles and new front control arms.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...921/irxoxG.jpg

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/8KaBJ2.jpg

Al Moreno 07-05-2016 03:17 PM

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...924/UJnrAW.jpg

This was like the fourth rending of the coil wires relocation bracket we made, LOL. Waiting on the ARP custom 12 point stainless bolts to replace those.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...921/tXsJpR.jpg

We used the factory brackets for the emergency brake lines for the trans cooler lines instead.

The diff bolts were replaced with ARP studs.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/0VoYoI.jpg

More ARP custom bolts. We drilled them for safety wire. Once we are done and know were not going to take anything apart again, we will wire them up.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...921/jfbvfG.jpg

Those Penskes are sweet!!!!

Justin has been design a strut bar that will tie in the firewall to the strut tower. He 3-D printed them first before having them machined.

Camber plates with mount for strut bar. This was his first design rendition.

He wasnt happy with the first design, so he made a second rendition.
