I agree - if it's not the intake seal - that valve seals would be the next thing I'll look at. I have really high oil pressure - cruising on the freeway at 1800 rpms it's 75#'s -- so there's plenty of oil "up top". And running until the valve train was so dry that it clattered like a diesel could certainly have wiped them out. |

Funny -- you never get to really hear - or feel - or experience YOUR car except in the drivers seat. Since I have Rudy's (my BIL) Camaro torn apart... I loaned them my Nomad (don't want him to have show withdrawal). And I'm now in the crowd etc or around when he fires it off and cruises away. That motor is bad azz... it rattles windows... sounds like a big block... yet is smooth (not lumpy cammed). You can be a block away and when it fires off - I know it's my car. The ground rumbles. |

Glad to hear that the engine is "ok" and still workable. Keep us posted. |
Guys,
It gets better and better.... Today I found the 2/4 spark plug wires crossed... toned them out and plugged them on the correct plugs. Decided as long as I was at it - I'd change plugs 'just to see how things are going'.... I can tell you the little small block has a much better torque curve now! Those two plugs being crossed up made quite the difference! I've been just fooling with things - I'm a tune up freak - and something in the exhaust just didn't sound quite right... guess I found out why! EEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAA |
Almost nothing you find wrong now will surprise me. Keep digging !

Greg,
Wow..more problems...again? Just amazing what should be a simple fun project is turning into a find the big gun and go shoot something lol..Seriously, Iam sorry for all the crap this has been for you, its really a nightmare. So what's next? If you find a half eaten Bologna sammich under the oil pan...don't worry its not mine! lol.. Hang in there buddy...hopefully you'll get some satisfying rolling time soon with it. |
as a matter of fact Jimbo...... :D
This is what's plagued this build from the get go (since being "finished") it's been just one STUPID mistake after another on the MECHANICALS. Thank god the fit and finish is as perfect as a guy could ask for. I'll pull the intake tomorrow if I get to it.. I still have the core support to paint for my BIL's Camaro project. Picked up his motor from the builder today - and of course that always takes more time that you factor... too many kool other builds going on so have to chat about each one... plus they're friends so there's that jib jab too. |
