Is it all new or is the TA set up from one of the other places? Either way it looks slick!

This is an all new Sutton/Pettigrew TA.

I believe it is the poly bushing that came from Cortex. I will verify with Jim next time I speak to him.

Looks awesome. Is the plan to have it basically flat on the underside at ride height? You going to make a belly pan if so?

Thanks man. A general goal is just as much clearance as possible. The front frame and oil pan are basically even and the plan has always been to have a belly pan that at least protects the engine and all the dang oil lines going everywhere. That should still play. We'll know soon enough as that is coming up next.

WSSix 02-04-2016 05:57 AM

Awesome! I know it adds complexity, especially with maintenance, but there's just something about having a belly pan or rear diffuser that screams I'm serious about speed. I think it would be right at home on your and Preston's cars.

I like the 1x2--I've been getting into that lately myself. So much seems over-tubed these days . . .

Belly pan? I'll just drop this here....

preston 02-04-2016 01:30 PM

Yeah my car is a flat bottom front to rear with a diffuser.

I did have to create a cutout to account for droop of the 3rd member, and I also have a cutout for the bellhousing which drops about 1.5" below the "ground plane".

That makes it better than nothing but having those holes probably reduces the benefit quite a bit.

In my case the floor is the flat bottom, and then I just have dzused on panels front and rear. The panels are alumalite which doesn't make the best material for a splitter but it works great for these kinds of panels.

If you design the car right its actually pretty easy to do this, they key is getting the exhaust out in the rockers so you're not trying to encapsulate it.

If one was serious about tracking the car you would want to extend the flat floor out beyond the rockers anyway but that's just having fun at that point.

I don't know what good its ever done me except to encapsulate oil leaks ha ha.

GregWeld 02-04-2016 06:00 PM

Really looking good now Dave!

I'm going to have to build a new race car to keep up with the lap times you're going to lay down in your street car! LOL

The belly pan (like a lot of cool fab) doesn't always get to be enjoyed due to being hidden once the car is assembed. You know it's actually more of a skid plate here I guess but a small one is a must here and has been planned since the engine was built and dyno'd back in 2004.

A diffuser is very striking and obviously functional if done right (really dig Alcala's on his Mustang) and that may be something added to Jim's punchlist before it leaves NC.

Well we were planning on doing 2x4 and 4x4 tubing but then Chad called it a tank so I got sensitive and self-conscious and we cut that down to 1x2. :peepwall:

Gwen, is that you? Surely Greg would not say such positive things in this thread. :headspin:

I'll be chasing Payton anyway.... so you should target him first. :trophy-1302:

That must be Gwen posting.

Vegas69 02-13-2016 09:41 AM

That's not fair, Greg. This car has traveled many miles over the last ten years. Not under it's own power, but that's progress?:tv_happy:

It certainly could help. I saw Cris G do that once but not sure it helped. :underchair:

With the right suspension setup and correct tire choice I'm sure you will do fine. Cris G isn't afraid to explore the outer edge of the envelope is he.

Your plan is working.........most of your 'primary' competition will be using walkers by your first shake-down run.

I second that emotion.
You've come to expect this with each of your posts, yes?
I must admit...every time I see activity in your thread, I smile because I know there will be humor upon reading. You could post pics of finished car next week, and these guys would still roast you about something.
The kind of stuff that makes this place the greatest performance car site!
Extremely nice work there, by the way!
