Must be the car that I kept that is 520 hp...You owe me more dough. Now if we can just keep the Tasmanian Devil from killing himself before he learns how to handle that much car properly on the track. He has already spun it more time than I ever did.

I was just looking for a rise out of you and everybody else.:D My engine builder would agree. The whole 10lbs per thousand rpm is old news. That all started with Smokey Yunick way back when. I will say that your oil temp was only 205 and racing temps may net you less. I just switched to Red Line so I'm not sure how it's viscosity drops off from 205 to say 230-250 in oil temp. I know my Brad Penn partial synthetic dropped 10 psi from 210 oil temp to 230-250. I'm changing my oil cooler and oil for a reason. I'd take a look next time out to see if you should change to a 50 weight. I 'm running 15w-50. These race engine builder like to build them loose to cool the bearings. That baby is a high winding haas.

The engine builder actually helped Redline in the development of the 40wt oil. Tony Oddo is considered about as good as it gets out here in the West. They build everything from spec Winston west engines to most good long lasting vintage race engines. I would not change to 50wt.

It depends on oil temperature. Tony is happy with 50 but is he happy with 43 when it's 90 degrees out and oil temps rise? My point, monitor your SPECIFIC application and call your engine builder. They want to hear from you and THEY make the call. To many guys just wing it and it costs them. I know Weld has more money than Donald Trump but playing ring around the rosey with engines isn't my idea of a spring picnic.

I called the engine builder TWICE today ---- he probably has blocked my number now....
He told me to just run straight 40wt RedLine.... and that IF I was going to wing the motor to 7500 all the time that it should be looked at after 40 hours of engine time. I told him I was holding it to 6000 on the straight and he said - oh h*** you won't need to look at it for a long time then. Charley made all the right choices when this was built - it's got Titanium valves, locks, and retainers... solid roller cam (.650 lift - 258*@.050 intake and 263*@.050 ext - 108 LSA)... it revs so quickly that you have to be a little careful on the gas pedal! I've had a few motors -- and this is my favorite. It's a rowdy little guy... and I love it. :theresa: |
Congrats on your new toy....."Poverty is owning a race car" And it never felt soooooooo good to be poor Enjoy it!!
BTW I used to buzz 8200 in my race car with 55-60# oil pressure. I run Red Line Race Weight 30 and she is still alive after 6 years |

The amount of 110 I pumped in this thing over the weekend was amazing to me... And Charley has me ordering up a new Renegade toter home and stacker trailer... :unibrow: Glad to hear you're motor is still going strong. I know that the old rule of thumb is/was just that... because it's one of those things that just all "depends". Clearances - temps - oil weight etc. As long as the builder is fine with that pressure I can sleep with it. |
When I first saw the for sale post I thought "Ya, Greg SHOULD buy this car." Now the thread title's changed and I realize you've already bought it and had it out on track! NICE!!
