Curious if any progress has been made to get your headers to match the ground clearance in the mock up photos Todd posted on my LS3 thread.

If your not worried about it and going to run them as is question then becomes, is the car driving yet or what?? :poke:

Steve, the car is held up a little at Custom Works due to the accessories mounting. The kit i ordered from March (sport trac kit) doesn't work for our second gens, the bracketry allows the alternator to go out too far and hits the inner fender....parts from Holley should be at Keith's shop around Thursday.

Last i spoke with Keith last week, Hooker is doing something for me/Keith on this, but Keith said it was a "suprise"....so i waiting patiently...cause i cant wait to drive it....

OK,

I have a sort of editorial on the experience with the Hooker/Holley products as ther pertain to Custom Works and Mikes 1970 Camaro. I don't wish to post a bunch of negative stuff or cause any problems with Todd or Hooker. If anyone wishes to read my editorial, below is a link about our experience in our forum section on NastyZ ----> Keith Custom Works

I have had nothing but problems with 2nd gen header clearance. My guess is the manufacturers would rather have it closer to the ground than the floor boards. liability with potential fire hazard I suppose.

I now run mid lengths and extend the collector tube and attach with a band clamp. It also involves notching the frame. :underchair:

I wish these guys would at least take some advise if someone (like Keith and myself) had offered it free of charge.

BTW the Edelbrock ones fitment WAS pretty nice.

Thanks for posting the update. It's very unfortunate to hear the issue isn't being fixed by Hooker. Hopefully Todd steps up soon. Sucks that Mike jumped all in with the hooker products and is now getting burned.

Vince

Of all the long tubes, which have the best ground clearance, is it the Stainless works or Kooks or something else?

Which mid lengths and extensions do you use? Do you have any pics of this setup? I remember a comment from Stielow that he like the mid lengths too due to clearance and that the power loss is extremely low compared to the full length. I'm thinking I'll take this route for my car

Kooks are nice but out of budget for most of my clients. Power loss is miniscule. Not enough to sacrifice ground clearance and a set of expensive headers everytime you drive down town.

I have an album on the header and modifications made on my facebook page. The headers, mods, coating and labor was less than $800.

I've had complete custom headers built before.... sometimes what you THINK is expensive isn't... Especially when you get what you want.

WSSix 02-06-2014 03:57 PM

I plan to either make my own or go the midlength route like Vince. I figured I would be doing this simply because no one that I know actually makes a header that clears a WS6 subframe. We will see where my welding skills are when it comes time to build the headers. Kinda wish the Hooker parts had worked out. Though, moving the engine to the center wasn't something I was really wanting.

Sorry to hear you didn't have a good experience with the Hooker parts, Mike.
