Cool, Wayne. Is that a G-bar rear suspension?

Ric

Payton King 09-07-2011 12:45 PM

Just saw your post

Glad you got your car back. One less stressor in your life. How did everyting look? Up to your standards?

The pics look great

waynieZ 09-07-2011 07:19 PM

Payton it looks real good, just wish it didn't take so long.
Ric its an Air Ride 4 bar with the coil overs it looks good in there.

Tom.A 09-07-2011 07:24 PM

Wayne, I am glad you got it back. It looks nice. It sucks it took so long but it is water under the bridge now.

Northeast Rod Run 09-07-2011 08:56 PM

Sucks that it took so long. Sucks that he didn't live up to his promises. Sucks even more than he didn't live up to his promises, that were supposed to make up for his other failed promises.

But hey, you finally have your car back at your house and that's the important part now. Congrats!

What's your timeline like now that you have it back?

waynieZ 09-08-2011 02:42 PM

Tom your right all is in the past.

TJ He did a lot to make up for it, but I didn't want to wait any more. I just wanted to get started on it. It sure feels good to open the door to the garage and see it sitting there. :D

Leadfoot1 09-08-2011 03:14 PM

Maybe i missed it along the way but did you pick a painter?? Color??

Looks good! I know the feeling of beeing run around for paint and body...but my guy does not (can't) do any paintwork nowadays......... No details :_paranoid lol!!!

Lead.

waynieZ 09-09-2011 12:26 AM

Lead; As far as a painter, I've got a friend who's been painting Custom paint and Corvette's since the late 60's. He does my paint work so He'll be doing this one too. The color is a little more trouble, I like a burnt orange but can't seem to find exactly what I want. So its still up in the air. I want to drive it so it needs to be able to be matched.

Wayne,

I'll bet that Madagascar Orange formulation is out by now. Looks like a very cool color and unique, too. Nobody but you would have a car in that color. :)

What about the orange from the Plymouth Prowler a few years back(04/05?) Similar to the Atomic Orange on the Corvette but a bit darker if I remember correctly.

Prowler Orange is awesome. Bad Penny is that color.

waynieZ 09-10-2011 11:32 AM

It is a sweet color, I saw it on Penny in 2010 when I was in Ca. I guess I'm kind of anal I don't want it too dark when its not in the sun.

67ragtp 09-10-2011 04:01 PM

Hey Wayne,

Its funny that you mention how that color looks in low light conditions, it is rather dark and can have a brown hue. I saw penny at SEMA 07, under the lights the color is incredible, it pops. A month later I buy a pint to shoot a test panel(upper cowl panel) and put the thing on my fireplace mantel, looked at it for a month. Couldn't believe how the color changes in the low light of my family room, loved it in the sun, hated it at sundown. Shoot a test panel you won,t regret it, color is so final.

Rich

waynieZ 09-10-2011 04:29 PM

I agree Rich There's an Eclipse color that is almost the same in light versus dark. I also like the new Cadillac Red on the CTS my painter has one its gorgeous!

waynieZ 09-13-2011 01:55 PM

You guys remember Those nice DSE subframe connectors that were put in my car How fr**kin well do you think they will work without these attached!
http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...e/000_0871.jpg
Do you believe this!
Floor all painted sub frame powdercoated and I get this.

NOW WHAT

GregWeld 09-13-2011 01:57 PM

Weld 'em in and paint 'em with POR 15 --- they make a flat black.

Unless of course - you're building a show car. That would be different.

Don't ya just love some of these "PRO" shops?!

ccracin 09-13-2011 02:10 PM

Those are the Sub-Frame ALMOST connectors! Don't let it get to you Wayne. Don't they bolt to the sub? Weld them in and touch up the paint. Like Greg said, which one are you building? If you want perfect, you know what you need to do. Not to get you down, but building these things are like that. They don't call it custom for nothing! I know it hurts when you pay for mistakes. Ask Greg and I how we know! Hang in Buddy!

waynieZ 09-13-2011 02:11 PM

What took 4 year to do ? How can you forget to put those in. I was going to pay to havce the bottom painted I don't care if it got banged up from driving but I wanted it to leave the garage all detailed. I just can't believe it.
Chad it killed me to see Greg with so many redo's that he had to fix himself.

GregWeld 09-13-2011 02:22 PM

Wayne ---

I know it kills you! Every time I think about what I paid for the '32 I get pissed off.... but it is what it is.

Tell you what.... you replace my hydraulic clutch -- I'll weld in your sub frame connectors! :willy:

CHAD ------ Got your call ---- and welcome your buddies call any time!

Ron in SoCal 09-13-2011 03:14 PM

Hey Wayne - I know it bugs you, but at least you know it is the order of things. Ever since I put my plan together and really thought it through, I was questioning how the heck you pcoat/weld/finish color on these things. I even did a reality check w Frank. So when I went to pick up my car, we had to grind down the pcoat at a clean line, weld'em up, and then shoot raptor over it. We did it same day I loaded my car in the truck! So really the only thing I don't blame you for is being upset about Mikey not gettimg that done prior to departure. Just one more thing to add to the list of gripes w that guy.....

96z28ss 09-13-2011 03:56 PM

I'm sure it stings a bit. Is the car all put together and is all the body work done on the doors and front end. It could be that he didn't weld them in yet cause the subframe is properly aligned yet. There is no way to weld those in and not have to touch up either the paint or the Powder coating. You would of had to have those welded onto both the subframe and connectors, then the bottom and sub would of had to been painted together.

Since the sub frame is powder coated it would of needed to been touched up afterwards anyway. Just add it to the list of stuff that he didn't do.

Jay Hilliard 09-13-2011 05:10 PM

Hang in there buddy. VHT makes an aerosol epoxy paint that is satin and matches PC really well. Its some nice stuff.

It will be fine. At least its at your place now. I cant believe this Mike guy.

Wayne, the really black spray cans should go out on Friday, it should match nicely after you have thoughs welded in.

pcoat/weld/finish color => weld/pcoat/finish color :question:

What am I missing here. I'm a chemist and not much of a car guy. :_paranoid

:willy: :willy: :willy: :willy: I also forgot to weld on my DSE Tabs to the Frame  If I was in your shoes, I would unbolt the Frame and lift the body at least 6-8 inches. Support the car by the rockers with 2 jackstands on each corner and place a 2x6 metal plate with a Soft Towel....Make sure you support the subframe at the rear.Use plenty of painters tape to mask the Frame rails, sand down the the area your going to weld the tabs and weld them in place....Belive it or not Brake Caliper paint holds up real nice and it has that powdercoat finish.

syborg tt 09-14-2011 07:06 AM

Okay it could be worse you could be hunting for the lost brackets and calling DSE and paying for another set.

I am sure you will find a couple more things that are going to drive you crazy. The good thing is it's only a car and you have your health, family and a bunch of good friends on this BB.

In the end you have your car back and it's just a small hick up.

You didn't miss much Bry. Sorry, I was typing that quickie response from my phone. My process was mock up the sub and align perfectly as mentioned above, then pull it send out to pcoat, undercoat/paint the car, replace the sub, realign (easier the second time around), reassemble the car, weld back in and then redo the color (Raptor spray in my case) on the sub. I didn't see any other way to do it unless I sent the entire car w the welded sub to the pcoater. I have seen some guys weld in the sub and then undercoat and paint.

So true Marty. Something like that happened to me as well...

waynieZ 09-14-2011 10:59 AM

Maybe I had a melt down, but it just stressed me over the edge. It will get done one way or another.
I'm getting ready to order some brake and fuel lines and get started on that. Mike said he left them off in case I needed to drop the sub to fit the crossmember in.

syborg tt 09-14-2011 11:10 AM

happens to the best of us

How about this. Modify the DSE tab so it can be plug weld to the frame. This would most likely eliminate making a mess of the frame. At that point all you would have to do is paint the modified DSE tab after it's plug welded on. No paint work need to the frame connector or the bottom of the car if you bolt it in as it doesn't need to be welded. I honestly think you can get these on the car with minimal damage.

I'm not sure this makes since, I could probably explane it a lot better over the phone if you want to give me a call.

See Wayne Jay made it all nice for you.. Great Idea!!!!!!!:captain:

DOOM 09-21-2011 04:44 PM

5 years to get the car back and no update on the progress REALLY!!!:D

Jay Hilliard 09-21-2011 06:47 PM

Yeah Wayne, what Mario said. Come on man! :D Show me (us) the pics.

SWAPMEETCRAZY 09-21-2011 07:05 PM

Maybe this will help!! Wayne --paint is leaving in am---Poured u up a quart-then put that in a gallon can-then boxed--Don't ask--last time I shipped
paint-was disaster!! lol.........this is bizen orange--will post omni code later..should give u a good sample of this shade......a little redder than atomic orange ............jim

waynieZ 09-22-2011 11:18 AM

Thanks Jim I'll be watching for it. Does primer color change the final color or is that just for pearl colors ??

Mario, Jay not too much to show, I've been waiting for my brake and fuel lines to come in. I have the car on jack stands so I could form some wire paterns for the Fab 9 hard lines. Which I only sent in this week. Plus Photobucket won't let me upload the few pictures I have to post. They are supposed to be fixing it.
Here they are.

And My attempt at an artsy back lit one. Boy do I need photo take lessons!

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...s/000_0886.jpg

I asked Mama if she wanted to come down under the car and christen the garage with me. She said no way if it fell she didn't want to be there to explain what we were doing when the firmen came to save us.
I told her not to worry I would leave a sock on the door knob and they would understand. lol Still no dice !

SWAPMEETCRAZY 09-22-2011 06:38 PM

Yes especially with this color--go light with primer-will pull the final color slightly lighter---sent ups --should be there wednesday---this is omni base--1 to 1 reduce with their reactive reducer-clear with your favorite!....There's enough to do 2 fenders --make a sample big enuff U can ponder for a while............jim
