To be clear, the rear "bolt-in" suspension frame-side link mounts, tacked on axle brackets, UCA and LCA links from the kit were already (temporarily) installed onto the original Mopar axle when the car arrived at Tim's shop.
The ONLY modification Tim made on the rear suspension was to the upper air bag mounts to allow the car to sit lower when aired out. You reached the inherent limitations of the bolt-in kit when you decided that you wanted a lower ride height. Quote:

lower is always better

Looking Good Ned

Relax TJ.... I'm not implying Tim screwed something up. I'm really happy with the decision to lower it more. My point was that its a perfect example of change one "small thing" and it cascades into the need to change a bunch of other things too.... That's the price we pay for screwing with stuff :)
I'm completely happy with the choice Tim and I made to lower it more.... I would do it again. The only thing different is I wouldn't have started with a bolt on and then changed 80% of it :).... I would have custom built it from the start. Easy to look back now , but at the time I bought the bolt in I had no idea I was going to scrap 80% of it I'd have Tim work on my car again anytime..... |

Ned, whats your plans with the lower back seat.Looks like you had to split it in half. I am in the process of the same mod with the tunnel on mine.
|
John...yes I had to split the lower portion of the rear seat to clear the new tunnel. Right now at least, I made some bars to go up over the new tunnel and connect the two sides. If I stick with this plan the tunnel will get covered by the seat but there wont be any/much padding on the "hump". I may just split it and make two buckets instead...not sure yet.

Holy crap it been a long time since I updated... this car is taking FOREVER!!...yeah, yeah, yeah... I don't want to hear it Weld!!
So....since last update.... After it took me forever to feel confident that I had the rear suspension where I wanted it, I had Dominator Street Rods weld up the brackets for me.. http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...psa5f99c07.jpg Then it was brake and fuel line time...never done it before, so it had some learning curve but went pretty well. Bought all my SS tube from Mark at BentFab.. http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps8d61a14c.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps9b94f65a.jpg Rather than go under the frame, I notched it out.. http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps7c6522a4.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps962c0b9f.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...psacd6c7a1.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...pse9354ee0.jpg |
T fittings and across to the pass side..
http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps42341f0c.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...pse5b93248.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...psa008108c.jpg Rear end..used a couple of weld on clamps from JCG http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps57318ca3.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps59550637.jpg Fuel line....8 AN, so it was tougher to bend...I bought some steel lines and "practiced" before using the SS http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...psf80240a4.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...psbc423628.jpg |
Ac lines up in the wheel well.... I also did an emergency door open cable in case of an electrical issue with the door poppers
http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps9aafed08.jpg Replaced some of the plastic dash pieces with metal...will mount the AC Controls and switches http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps7b2e538e.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps5d179d1f.jpg Ran my air inlet pipe up into the passenger side fender...built and aluminum air filter box hidden up behind the headlight bucket...don't have good pix.. http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps07ebd4ae.jpg |
Bought a Miller Diversion TIG welder and started to play with aluminum fabrication.
Got rid of the plastic cowl ventral grill and made some new ones out of aluminum..lots of trial a error getting the bends just right to fit the contours of the cowl....kind of a PITA. The mounted them with rivnuts... added a few more fastners to make it look more symmetrical Hand built with flat stock, cut off wheel, grinder and a TIG.....not bad for a first timer....not perfect, but I'm pretty happy with the way they turned out http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps3629b78f.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps959a3971.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps158ebbda.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps0e97554f.jpg |
TONS of small stuff.... hidden wiper motor inside cowl...ISIS mounts and figuring where to mount all the EFI stuff, AC stuff, mock up running all the AC lines, PS lines, hydroboost lines. moved the side mirrors forward about 7 inches, built a custom mount for interior rear view mirror. rear seatbelt mounts so I can run a 4 point belt in back etc etc etc..... lots of stuff, but pix aren't worth showing..
When I felt like I had done all of my big metal stuff and no obvious cutting/welding/drilling... I prepped and Upol Raptor lined the underside of the car. Nice stuff...sprayed easy, looks great.... http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps6cabf1af.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...psdf6a341a.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps10211608.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps60bb4785.jpg |
back off the rotisserie and one final mock up of all the big suspension stuff...
Looking bad ass if you don't mind me saying !!! http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...psc1de4062.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps99639b22.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...psf5a7f3f5.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps63e4dea0.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps166c5d95.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps6ffba619.jpg |
The off with nice wheels and on with the rollers..fitting the new grill....needs a little work on the gaps around the head light bucket
http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...psa7382b48.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps59b63328.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps9e63f695.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps9dbb3740.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps14fa3f2d.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps34da843c.jpg |
That's all the big stuff that is worth sharing with pix..
Its basically ready for paint....FINALLY.... if I did it right, once its painted, it will just fall back together quick...yeah right :) Not 100% sure on color....been talking to Carter about doing some new paint layouts, but he's super busy with his new job. Leaning towards a dark maroon with two stripes on the fenders....maybe a blacked out hood and rear tail pan...not sure yet. I've been building the car WAY too long.. I need to get it done !!! Just trying to nail down the painter, and when I can bring it in.... |
So glad to see the battle continues...
Thought we may have lost you. |
Great to see the progress Ned-----it has been a long time! Hope to see you for GG this year in June---
Doug |
Glad to see the dream is still alive and well. Great work Ned!
 |
Damn Ned! I thought maybe one of them cats you're always playing around with gave you a little lick and you ran off with it or something!
Since your last post I got married - raised the kids and they graduate college next semester.... It looks really really good... the stance is spot on... your fab work has come way up the ladder and your tubing work is stellar!! Mark might have to hire you if he gets too busy! I hope you've changed that green tape out a few times since we last had breakfast?!?!? If not -- Oh... you may be peeling little tiny pieces off there for a very long time. Stop chewing your finger nails 'cause you're going to need them long and sharp. Personally I think the car calls for a really subtle color.... like Panther Pink.... but Maroon will work nicely too.... actually if it was my car I'd paint it kind of a maroon -- but it would be more Dark Black Cherry.... with a dark brandy colored interior. |
looking good Ned, sits perfect too!!!
|
Nice to see the progress pics! Keep at it! And I think the color sounds great!
|
looks great

I think this is my new favorite picture. http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...psc1de4062.jpg |
Nice!
|
I'm going to keep space in the trunk open for my walker.... By the time I get this car done, I'll be at the retirement home :)
I'm happy with the fuel and brake lines...hopefully they don't leak like hell :)... I pressure tested and the flares seem to seal, but we shall see Not looking forward to peeling that tape off the wheels I'm so all over the place on color....it looks bad ass in epoxy :) |
Looks great Ned! Stance is spot on!
|
You're doing great work, Ned. I think a dark color like maroon would suit this car just fine. A dark cherry red like cherry wood furniture would be great as well. Make it a metallic with lots of clear to give it depth is what I would do. Keep up the great work, and good luck moving forward.
|
Very nice Ned.
Sitting really nice. Front end looks awesome. |
Love it.
I've wondered what ever happened to your build since it had been so long since we have seen anything. Great to hear things are still moving forward and that you are making progress. Looks great and looking forward to seeing more, timely, regular, updates.:poke: Keep up the good work Ned! |
Great work!

Not feeling that color....
Thinking a bit more towards the red spectrum... I'm not much into metallic either |
Awesome Ned! Looks great and stance is perfect.
|
Damn, that stance still is perfect.
|
Great to see an update Ned. I think it looks great. Remember to pick a colour that appeals to most if you ever plan to sell it down the road. IMO you can't go wrong with a red, black or silver or one of the original mopar colors like green, purple etc.
|
Great looking build...that AAR hood looks mean!
|
Car would be awesome in Plum Crazy - with a black bumblebee stripe on the tail...
|
Some shade of purple is on the "maybe" list... That's the issue... The list is still long...
|
Wow, haven't seen this thread in a while. Nice cowl screens Ned. I planned on the same thing but solid aluminum (vintage air doesn't need the vent area ) :gitrdun:
