Nice Rodger looking really good! Is it still going to get the built in air jacks that Dave wanted to put in?

That is still the plan. I don't think it would be to easy to jack up without them.

dave96dcm 06-17-2013 06:20 AM

How thick is the intercooler core? Could you use a thinner core or will that negate the effect of having a core because a thinner core wouldn't be able to keep up with the heat and airflow you are going to be making. You could also run no intercooler and just run a boost referenced water alcohol mist before the blower. If you think it will be more street than full on boost that might be a idea. When cruising with the bypass open those don't make much heat at all.

ironworks 06-18-2013 06:44 AM

I'm not sure where we will end up with intercooler thickness. I have been talking to some much smarter guys then me at Whipple and Kurt Urban had some good ideas also. The customer is open to machining the intake from Billet to get the best results with our application. One step at a time.

Happy to see this project back in motion,:hapdance:

ironworks 07-09-2013 07:45 AM

Well I guess it's about time for an Update on the widebody Camaro project.

Things have come long pretty good in the engine compartment. We are working to get the front suspension crossmember designed and getting the Alternator and AC compress in a low key position. We mocked up a rough seat in the car and are working to get the steering column position set up. We all closed up the panel below the rear window where the car was shortened for less over hang.

http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...28-2013005.jpg

We are just mocking up some hinges to see how they will work in a rear ward position nearly 6 inches back from stock with the new firewall position.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...28-2013006.jpg

This steering column position will be critical for comfort behind the wheel and header clearance and having the column high enough at the firewall to give plenty of room for the movement of the pedal assembly. You can also see the bellhousing mounted starter in position on the passenger side.

WOW, there are a few killer 1st Gen Camaro's being built right now throughout the country and I think this one is going to be a stand out among them!

Rodger, keep the pics coming

Like I always say each project is only as good as the customer. Troy is pretty excited about this project and is letting us do some pretty cool things.

dave96dcm 09-05-2013 08:46 AM

Anything new on this?

ironworks 09-05-2013 09:16 AM

I was just getting ready to do an update on a few of our projects in the works.

We have been working on the lay out for the side vent on the front fenders and I think we are getting pretty close. The Customer thought it was mostly perfect.

http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...21-2013004.jpg
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...ichtoneHDR.jpg

We are going to make a few changes to the floor lay out due to the new lower engine position. These headers are going to be tough but we should make they work and still be removable.

We are working with the relocated water pump idea and mocking up a slanted radiator.

I absolutely love what you call "rough" pics! Seeing you start to piece together the ideas, how the panels come together, the stuff before metal finishing, just as amazing as the finished product!

Jeff-

Jeff,

You need to plan a road-trip from TN to CA to see this car in-person...... It is worth the drive.

I saw it just a few weeks ago!

YEAH JEFF --- 'Cause I make the trip down there regularly from Seattle... so the least you could do is blow in once in awhile from Tenney Sea.

Looking good!! Love the little detail to the side vent at the bottom that goes parallel to the rocker.:flashie:

Well you know GW, since you're making all these road trips, you could swing by and get me... we could stop by Poteet's place just south of me ('cause he and I are like peas and carrots) and then zip out to Bakertucky! Just be sure you got ice cold Yoo-hoos in the fridge and some P&B sammiches, I don't eat that high brow fare....

( I don't actually know Mr. Poteet, but I do hope some day to meet him )

Check out the C&R electric pump mounted on the radiator.

Think I've seen a LS street radiator with a meziere pump somewhere.

Nice fab !

We got the headers mocked up the way the customer envisioned his headers. They are nearly equal length but it does not matter with that big Whipple Supercharger.

Maybe someday. At least the customer is happy.

GrabberGT 09-17-2013 08:52 AM

That motor looks strange in there. Its appears to be hanging off the firewall the way a mounted trophy buck looks hanging over the firepalce. Its just not real.

Apparently you did not see the machinist spec 2x4's under the engine. That's what is doing all the work.

We have been buttoning up a lot of loose ends and working to design some pretty nice idea parts for this project. I will see what I have to post.

I posted up a few pics in the Update thread for the shop, but have not had time to do anything with this thread.

We are getting pretty crazy with this project and it has been pushing my Solidworks design skills to get it all incorporated together to the quality and design we shot for on a daily basis. We have just been trying to keep up with all the customers that keep us very busy. One of our many local customers just brought a 3rd car for us to begin working on this week, he wants to go racing in the big track with a bad ass 2nd gen camaro.

Be careful what you wish for as you might get it. I'm just glad we have the staff we have in the shop and they want to build the craziness our customers desire.

Enjoy some pics.

This lower cradle is just for the lower section and to get all the plumbing together for the dry sump and other engine accessories. I have the bitchin parts to build off of this if I can ever decide what design I like the best and will work the best for what we are doing.

The progress on the car is pretty consistent these days. Customer was unsure of the direction he wanted some things. But we are now going with a Custom built LS7 with a cross ram design we found in Australia. So progress can begin.

We have gotten the UCA mounts defined and getting some other plates set up to reinforce the front end. We have the radiator mounted in position so we are now ready to cut the parts to permanently mount it in the car.
