Did you put forged internals in the motor?

In the center section. It houses the volt, fuel level, fuel pressure, oil temp, water temp and the GPS track computer.

It's the same basic panel that was in the car originally

Nope, no need to at this power level. ARP rod and head bolts were added.

Payton King 03-02-2007 10:15 AM

I was just making the comment that there was

nothing that I would personally change on the car. To me you would have to move past being steet worthy to gain any more performance.

Obviously our cars ended up being very similar, but I sure wish I would have pulled the trigger on the 3 link, my only regret.

I am just happy you're on one coast and I am on the other. I would hate to run head to head...well maybe a few times.

Who makes the gauge cluster/dash piece for the gauges? Is it made of steel? Does it come as a blank?
James

Made by Covans

Made of plastic

Can be ordered drilled or blank

Only around a hundred bucks

Steve1968LS2 03-03-2007 06:51 PM

Ok, today I finished up the air intake. It's coated like the headers. Came out nice I think. The engine bay is officially done!

And with the DSE closeout in place:

http://www.lifeinwidescreen.com/siihp/pen9b.jpg

She starts right up and sounds wicked with open headers. Nice lopey idle. Next time I will have a video camera. My $2000 work camera doesn't shoot video.. :(

Next up... alignment, exhaust, tune, interior and minor details. Del Mar looks very good as a debut date.

rocketrod 03-03-2007 07:06 PM

I love the detail, but that radiator cap really stands out...

I can't find a GOOD (ie, quality) radiator cap that looks nice and isn't too big or too "blingy"

The Stant Racing cap is a high quality unit, Maybe I will just paint it flat black.

I am open to ideas!

XcYZ 03-03-2007 07:29 PM

Looks fantastic, Steve!

It's too bad that Hooligan went out of business, they were the guys who made really trick annodized CNC'd reservoirs for sport bikes that was used on Johnson's Cuda for his clutch and brakes. It would have looked perfect in your engine bay (go look at the engine shots of the Cuda and you'll see what I mean). Anyways, I just love how it turned out for you. You have an eye for detail, that's for sure.

clill 03-03-2007 07:36 PM

Does that Stant race cap have two seals to work with a overflow bottle ? Pressure ?

I don't think this one did. I will look next time.

rockdogz 03-03-2007 08:36 PM

Looks incredible man!
Can you take some fine sandpaper or steel wool to the cap and remove all the markings??

mazspeed 03-04-2007 12:37 PM

Steve's car is a work of art. I think it's the best looking camaro I have ever seen.

Sales@Dutchboys 03-04-2007 12:52 PM

Very Very Nice steve, If I may ask....Who did your coating?

Thanks

Payton King 03-05-2007 05:51 AM

Street and Perfomance

Has a billet rad cap cover. You could get it and either coat it or put a brush finish.

That's a good idea. You could annodize it black, too. Hmmmm... :)

I have a fancy billet one from AFCO, however I have a problem.

The DSE closeout was designed for radiators with the cap on the passengers side. My dual pass unit has the cap on the drivers side. This meant my space was limited in regards to cap size. If you look close you can see how I "clearanced" the DSE cover to give a bit more room for a radiator cap. I could run a billet cap but it needs to be close in size to the Stant cap.

I just want something non-shiny that blends. I'm sure there's something out there, just been a low priority.

Maybe, the part with the STANT writing is a seperate piece and I think I can remove it. The lettering is silkscreened on it and I was thinking of sanding it smooth and then having it powdered in either silver (to blend) or the titanium color to tie into the intake.

On a positive note, you know you are finishing a build when you start to fuss with the radiator cap. lol

Thanks man, your's is still the best color combo though ;)

Coming to Fontana Super Chevy and Del Mar? I have scratched plans to have the car at Super Chevy so I can concentrate on getting it done for Del Mar. My being gone all next week on vacation is NOT helping the process, but it will make my wife happy and "a happy wife = a happy life"

Well you did give me the colors. :D
I'm hoping to make it, depends on if Frank can ship the supercharger out this week. Everything else is ready including the engine rebuild. I will be there if the car is done.

What mufflers did you end up using?

Magnaflow... 14x9

The whole system is tucked to the floor really nicely. I have tons of gound clearance except where it has to dip down a bit to go under the trans crossmember. Warner's Performance did an EXCELENT job fabricating all the stuff.

The 3-inch x-pipe is from Magnaflow as well.

James OLC 03-11-2007 06:34 PM

Thanks dude, we've got something cool coming together on the exhaust side of things and, as you know, the 3-link has some unique packaging considerations.

rsk68 03-11-2007 08:04 PM

Steve

How much would they charge for this system, Im looking for a shop to do mine in 3 inch SS, do you have there contact info/

Thanks

71Nova 03-12-2007 02:06 AM

Steve are you alright? I heard they evacuated 500 homes in your area due to a brush fire.

71Nova 03-12-2007 02:13 AM

Steve your exhaust looks like my exhaust. SS with x pipe and Magnaflow mufflers. The day I had the exhaust installed I was kind of disapointed with the mufflers because it was to quiet. Mine took about 100 miles to break in, and I am now very happy with the sound level. Quite a bit louder than the first time I fired her up with the new stuff.

I would expect about $400 labor plus materials, maybe less. I would save a ton of cash and go with aluminized steel over stainless and just have the system thermal coated. Most stainless is quite a bit thinner and thus louder and it costs a freakin fortune. It's WARNER'S PERFORMANCE, In Oceanside, CA, ask for Jim.

We're in Hawaii on vacation. The house is ok, we are on the other side of the 91 freeway. :woot:

Thanks for the info, good point on the SS thickness, I have a local guy that wants $1200 for a complete SS system, not sure if that was high or not, i will check with hi and Warners about a coated steel system.

Thanks
Rick

How's this for a great bunch of guys.

I'm on vacation in Hawaii and while it's great it's killing my ETA for getting the car done by the Good Guys Del Mar show. So Mark from Lateral-Dynamics and Dick from Best of Show spend all day today working on my car (trying to wittle down the list of "things to do").

As a bonus they even installed my new Wilwood rear brakes. These guys rock! Now I can spend next Saturday doing other things on the list. Thanks guys!

waynieZ 03-14-2007 02:20 AM

Very nice brakes Bling!

Gandalf 03-14-2007 04:06 PM

Dear Mark / Dick,

I am also on holiday and my 'maro needs finishing too. It's in my gagrage in Carlsbad - I left the key under the mat for you. If you could just finish it up for me before I get home, that would be great. I need a few more parts than Steve and there's probably a few hours worth of buffing to be done but I know you guys will do a bang-up job!

http://carcraft.com/thehistoryof/ccr...hvy_camaro.jpg

(does hiding in the back yard count as a holiday?)

:P

Leadfoot1 03-14-2007 04:52 PM

I hate it when some guy's post pics of cars like these!!!!!!

Here that thing would sell for 4-5K easily!!!!!!!!!!!! (serious!)

Oh well.....

Steve, i've meant to ask, are the center caps on your wheel Forgeline pieces or if you got them custom made. I dig the C-Fiber in 'em and since i have a few ideas in my own ride including some... I looked up the Forgeline to find some info on them for mine site but to no avail. (Maybe thats why it took so long for you to get them back?!;) )

Thanks,

Lead.
