Let me first start out by saying that this an absolutely stunning build. I was however curious about the rear tire & wheel size. Coming from Troy I expected to see at least 20's in the rear, not that the 18's look bad or out of place at all they just seem to be rather conservative. That and whats up w/ the Comp TA's havent those been discontinued from BFGoodrich for a few years now? Am also surprised to only see a 295 in the rear? Why the conservative sizing?.........Really was just curious, not intending to criticze the build in any remote way. Best of luck in Columbus, looking forward to the completed pics of the car

Man, why is this project not in the project folder....I only noticed this build thread now!

Troy is one of my favorites and they are doing a great job on the Nova.....absolutely love it!!

I've been wondering the same thing, all the others get moved there.

Ronny 07-09-2008 07:52 AM

Cant wait to see the car finished, Troy and he`s team always amaze me!!!

The Rad Rides calipers are cool

I also hoped for 20" or bigger in the rear...

Good luck in Columbus :)

If this car had the 20s on it we would probably have to put something like a 30 series tire on it. Troy wanted this car to do well in handling and quarter mile as well as some comfort, hence the smaller rim. Plus this nova is so small in size compared to the other cars hes done, Im not sure how it would look with the 20's. Yes that bfg tire is discontinued. Apparently its a tough size to get with that kind of sidewall. Rubber band tires on big wheels have been done a lot (not that its bad, I like the look myself). For this car and its style, we thought this setup would be better. The 295 is to be sure we could stuff the wheels under the fenders with the minitubs w/o worrying about rubbing issues. We tried 315s but they would rub when taking a turn hard.

I agree with the tire size on this car for all the reasons mentioned.
But make that 1/4 mile run count because once it dips below 11.49 they'll throw you out for the side bars not being legal.
Nice build... cant wait to see it Friday.

Cool, makes perfect sense for all the reasons mentioned. I knew there was a method to the selection, was really just curious of what the reasoning was. 18's on 68-72 X-Body's I think is really the perfect size, I know Troy usually pushes the envelope on rim/tire combos is the only reason I expected to see bigger hoops. Looking forward to the pics from Columbus....

I'm with you all the way for exactly the reasons you stated.
Ain't a damn thing wrong with 18's for handling and some nice, meaty sidewalls.

The look and fit of every thing on this car is awsum in person,Just put some finish work on the interior and got back home. They started it last night and is just badd a$$ sounding, one of the best cars i have worked on.You have to see the engine in person to see all the little details(one of Troy's Favorites, his words). The wheels work better than anything else that could have gone on it.Should be a good show for you guys,Thanks again Derek

ProdigyCustoms 07-09-2008 01:17 PM

Looks killer as expected. You must be siked! Who is driving on the autocross? We have not driven ours yet. Going to take it for a drive in 1 hour and stick it in the trailer and head north, UGH!

G-Body 07-09-2008 07:33 PM

Really needs at least 20's on this car, and 18 fronts to me when sitting next to a few other high end rides the tires will look like truck tires. Should 1/4 mile good and hook up but dosent appear to be a drag car! and the wheels for one off's dont seem to work either ecs the color of them and the 20 thousand chrome bolts on it, I kinda expected more from troy besides this is what you see first the wheels and stance and of course color , and dont get me started on that on this car!

boonedog 07-09-2008 08:43 PM

looks good 20 inch wheels are being over done do a little something diffrent with a little more meat on the tires. You cant please them all but i like it.

Right on! They had the engine running on ours at low rpm. Meaney called this afternoon to tune. Stick it in the trailer and GO...thats the way to do it.

Well we were at radrides today around noontime. Had lunch with the guys, watched some extreme stunts gone wrong on the tv and got to check out the rest of notorious before it went on the trailer. Car is phenomenal and there is nothing that we feel could be done to make this car more fitting for what we wanted out of it. I know they are probably still finishing up on some things as we speak but they were in excellent shape at noontime.

This has been one excellent ride for sure...with more great times to look forward to. And now a picture!

i was at the radrides booth last month at a show and they said there was talk about this Nova being driven to the show? i cant remember the guys name i think they call him Moose? anyways he said he hoped you guys trailered it.

p.s so is there any agreement between your dad and Troy that this car has to have a certain amount of event coverage at shows around the states? I know every year i see a different car at there booth but the owners are never there just the staff who built it bring it to the show.

p.p.s who is driving it in the auto-x? your dad or troy?

Yeah there was talk of that. Much safer to trailer it though, esp since its about a 6 hr drive. As far as an agreement goes with showing the car, we basically let Troy run with the ball. Whatever shows he wants to show it then he will. Hopefully we'll get it for a few weeks and enjoy it before summers over. I know there are a lot of venders at sema that want it as well. We will be at this show, the Joliet,IL goodguys and SEMA for sure.

We are going to try and see it do the autocross but we may not since we wont roll into the show till 1pm. Probably Troy will drive it.

musclecarjohn,

Chris here. While I agree with your statements about how incredible Troy's cars are......your cars, heck, all of our cars are not too shabby. What is most important is that we are in the car hobby and loving it. Not sure but I bet Troy would agree.

Take care,
Chris

byndbad914 07-10-2008 01:15 PM

I have to agree with a few others on the larger sidewall and 18s. I fricken hate those big wheels and rubber band tires and that car is gonna not only look show worthy, but road worthy and race worthy as well. 18s look great on muscle cars with a 295/45 sidewall. Any wheel larger just ruins 'em for me.

I like the subtle stuff like the late model vents on the dash and so forth too. They look almost factory in their execution as well... I can't wait to see some final pix of this thing!

Please be sure to post which booth will have it at SEMA when you know as I would love to check this out in person as well.

Please post plenty of pictures...I know you will though!

bentfab 07-10-2008 03:32 PM

I think side wall front to back is the most important. The stance will make or brake the hole package. 17's 18's 19' 20's there all bitchen it's just a matter of how you pull it off. Some of you have all ready seen the post on my truck. But for those who hav'nt what rim and tire size do you think this is? My honest opinon I think I nailed it. Plenty of side wall for a soft ride and write proportions front to back. Sorry it's on a truck

fesler 07-10-2008 03:46 PM

We were there when the car came out of the trailer and it is a sick car, the only thing I dont agree on is the wheels and tires, we have a huge tire on the back or our Camaro with enough meat on them and you guys can compair when they sit by each other. Other then that the car is sick and a work of art and I am glad to have a car out at the show going up against it. its going to be a good show for sure. See you guys out here.

thats me in the trailer shot at the front

G-Body 07-10-2008 09:06 PM

Sure the nova has a ton of cool detail
But Chris your car has way more visual sex appeal I too dont care for the wheel tire combo and paint choice on the nova but let me say your ride has a ton of attitude and style good luck!

Lemons 07-10-2008 09:36 PM

Wheels and tires look great

I gotta say, I think the wheels and tires look great. The taller sidewall is more practical, and I can't wait to see what that thing can do.

Awesome ride.

Chris

Totally agreed Lemons,I can't understand why people would make negative comments when we haven't even fully seen the car with the complete stance, not just close-up teaser shots.
To those people I say this...show me your custom made $300K car and then we can have a conversation.

first off I gotta say that I dig that car... and I dig the fitment and the stance too. Its refreshing.....

on the other hand though... if you are going to post pics in a public forum you need to be prepared for people that dont like it or certain elements on it. it doesnt matter if it is a multi million dollar riddler winner or a 1500 dollar piece of Ebay. I for one, am not a guy that holds back what I think. Just like it doesnt hurt my feelings that alot of people find 61 post cars repulsive compared to the hardtop. :wow: yeah I know ,but I have had more than one person ask me why the hell i am building the car that I am..... crazy huh :faint:

I love all of the work from Rad Rides and the attention to details always amaze me!
Haven't seen the hole car yet but i can tell for sure that i dont like the tires, its what we call Ballon tires here in Norway..
Havent read the hole tread, but why the rpm gauge? aren't there a rpm "unit" on the RacePak?

Other than that it looks real nice!
