I'm bummed I didn't make it back in time to see the 33. Win some, lose some, I guess.:shakehead: Missed it by a clutch swap. How was the shop tour and Orange hill this year? |
Greg, thanks for the reply to my questions. I certainly wasn't trying to put any importance on the win or loss of an award. I have never competed on any level like that was just really curious on your take away after being a part of such a major event.
The real trophy is the car, so you have already won the best award there is. Congrats on a spectacular car. Thanks, Glenn |
Back when my car was pretty much restored but still pretty stock looking, I went to a large once a year cruise in with a friend in his highly modified Monte Carlo SS...not a stock part left on it.
We were parked side by side and it was very interesting to me to watch as half of the people would walk right past my car to look at his, and the other half would walk right past his to look at mine. I think I was kind of taken aback that after all of the hours I spent restoring my car it wasn't getting more attention. That might have been about the time that I decided to start driving the car more and be done with the looking at it in a parking lot scene. So glad I made that move and I haven't looked back since. Having fun driving what you built is by far the best trophy one can get for participating in this hobby of ours. |

It's okay -- the road trip was an epic event -- this was just a car show. There's 5 of 'em every weekend. Saturday our first usual shop tour is a So Cal Speed... it was locked up like Fort Knox... No biggie - we'll just swing over to Bobby Walden's. He was just locking his door and headed over to the show.. Strike Two. I looked at Rudy and said WTF -- First two shops that are ALWAYS open on Saturday are closed.... Let's just go back to the show and we'll do the outside show (They allow all these cars to come in on Saturday morning that aren't there Friday)... and Lenie was at the show... so back we went. 3:30 rolls around... we high tail it all the way to our favorite Starbucks at Newport Beach. Ah........ Life is good! Then off to Orange Hill. The night was spectacularly clear! Sparkling! The Disneyland fireworks in our honor! Lenie - his buddy Jim - My niece and BF - Rudy - Alex and his GF... a couple bottles of wine... The only thing that was missing was you. Next year! http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/IMG_4943.jpg If the owner was around -- it wasn't for sale -- I'd have laid $100 bills on him until this was mine. The PERFECT Sun Valley 'rig'!! http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/IMG_4940.jpg |

Lance -- I can't even remember how many cars I've owned - restored - hot rodded... etc. This includes NCRS Top Flight - Bloomington Gold winners... I've driven every one of them... including driving to Springfield, Ill to be judged for Bloomington. When I got home from that trip. The car came completely apart and was restored for the third time by me. Driving 'em is the only way a guy will truly ever enjoy what he's built. I've always said - if you want a trophy - go to the store and buy one. I've never been a "show car" guy - and I've never been a "show" guy. I like to drive to the show - get out - walk around - talk to my buddies - and leave and go on a drive to somewhere else. Sitting in a chair and listening to people - and talking to people that ask silly questions - and make silly comments... is not how I choose to spend my life. I have friends that go to two shows a weekend. For the life of me I can't figure out how they can do it. I can't sit still that long... and I can't retell the story of every detail of how I built the car over and over and over. Just shoot me! |
