2nd Chance Camaro 2.0 - Cleaning Up the AAW Harness
2019 07-02 Update - Cleaning Up the AAW Harness

Okay now it's time for an actually update.

Reposting this pictures JIC we all forgot what the plan was.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...01a44af-me.jpg

Remove this junction block as it is not needed and it has to go. It's as simple as cutting and joining them back together.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...bd7cd12-me.jpg

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...c20f29d-me.jpg

I separated all of the wire so they all had there own Tech-Flex wrap and also shortened them as needed.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...1a86ea6-me.jpg

Don't worry I twisted these together just so i could get the lengths correct.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...211bcdd-me.jpg

Man it sure would be nice if my table was a little bigger.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d5e7f65-me.jpg

Left side is finally separated

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...093f6fc-me.jpg

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...b0b7626-me.jpg

Need to look at the wiring diagram to see where these wire go as the were not wired to anything in the car.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...b0b7626-me.jpg

Yes I have issue and one of them is working in a somewhat clean & organized environment.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...5a924c2-me.jpg

First set of wire wrapped in the Tech Flex loom.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...49f85af-me.jpg

Over the years I have learned a few things. Twist Ties, Wire Nuts and a good pair of wire strippers make big jobs easier.

I use the twist ties to keep all of the wires together that terminate at a common plug and wire nut keep the harness from flopping around on your work bench while you are soldering.

I pretty sure I have had these blue wire nuts for 30 years.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...644b435-me.jpg

So I couldn't find my alligator clip thing for holding the wire so i found a new use for my vise grips.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...c79ed38-me.jpg

I staggered all of the unions so I didn't have all the bulk in the center of the harness.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...c79ed38-me.jpg

Everything is officially joined and resting on the floor.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...2fe5c34-me.jpg

syborg tt 07-02-2019 07:48 PM

On to the fun part joining all of the wires and installing heat shrink on each union.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...1132166-me.jpg

Boy would it be nice to be working on a bench instead of the floor.

Need to fix this union.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...dcbec31-me.jpg

Starting to look a little better.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...f6eda11-me.jpg

Hours of work and this is all of the scrap I made

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a03c3f2-me.jpg

Calling it a night and plan to wrap it later in the week

2nd Chance Camaro 2.0 - DEI Sound Deadening
2019 06-25 Update - DEI Sound Deadening

Another, while I am here moment just happened.

Might as well add more sound deadening since the dash is already off.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...2b4e5f5-me.jpg

It's nice having an Eastwood store 30 minutes from my house. A quick trip an to get some more sound deadening and possible stop at Baskin Robins for an Ice Cream Cone.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...5a06812-me.jpg

Good thing I save all of the boxes

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...492a288-me.jpg

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...56e972b-me.jpg

Having the right tools helps. Just kidding this is one job that only takes a few tools and it's actually fun to do.

Here is a quick picture of the Tech Flex Sample kit.

This is the split loom for existing harness's

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...22d1004-me.jpg

I also ordered some Tessa Tape which is perfect of the engine bay wire harness.

2nd Chance Camaro 2.0 - AAW Tech Flex Wrap

2019 07-03 Update - AAW Tech Flex Wrap

So I have had this little table in my garage for at least year and I decided to pull it out and see if I could use it
in front of my workbench and what do you know it worked perfect.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...c6810aa-me.jpg

okay close to perfect

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...65d1bc2-me.jpg

Moving on to wrapping the harness with Tech Flex.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...3424d20-me.jpg

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...45088ec-me.jpg

So before I wrapped up the main harness I slid a piece of heat shrink up the main section of the harness to hold it all together.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...4431ce1-me.jpg

A few of the wires are not being used but I wanted to save them and also isolate them from any potential issues so I heat shrink wrapped each cut end.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...6b4b85b-me.jpg

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...4270a4a-me.jpg

Slowly but surely it is starting to look like a finished harness.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...2b580ff-me.jpg

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...04e2c61-me.jpg

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...8fd8ea7-me.jpg

Getting closer

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...2abe3aa-me.jpg

I also rerouted some of the section so that when I put the harness back in the car it lays exactly where
I would like it to lay.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...f98a447-me.jpg

so close

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...0cbc8e5-me.jpg

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a53d274-me.jpg

Once again all done for the night and now it's time to go for a ride.

Wiring terrifies me... I want the clean result but get lost trying to keep up with so many runs in different directions...
Thank you for sharing!!! ....and thank you for the laughs when I was fast scrolling through the pics and saw the wire nuts....:confused59: (because I have actually seen them used in cars before...)

Jeff-

I agree with you that wiring is terrifying and it took me a little bit to jump into this one as I new it was going to be very time consuming.

Wire Nuts - way back in the 80's I can remember people using them on car stereo systems.

syborg tt 07-03-2019 07:19 AM

In my quest to work on the car I decided that I would have the lower dash bracket powder coated for no reason other then personal because it is not like anyone will ever see it.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...6c66f6b-me.jpg

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a117b09-me.jpg

I also picked up some parts for the car from Midwest Hot Rods.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a117b09-me.jpg

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...8612669-me.jpg

Since the headers are off and these where cheap I would install these exhaust port covers.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...5cc9b78-me.jpg

I need to make a few more holes so they would work.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...3de3b0a-me.jpg

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...2ac2f34-me.jpg

syborg tt 07-03-2019 07:21 AM

and here comes the fun part

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d278790-me.jpg

now this is a whole bunch of wires

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...f4f26b5-me.jpg

The brackets are back from Pro-Tek Powder Coating and they look way to nice.

syborg tt 07-03-2019 07:38 AM

Moving on to installing the harness and hope all of my planning pays off.

I plan to run the harness over the top of the steering column and secure it safely to the column mount.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...4e918a3-me.jpg

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a1e15a5-me.jpg

so far so good

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...b8a73d9-me.jpg

Picked up some needed parts from the local AutoZone. I used the door edge guard on the edges of the
steering column framework as I felt they could be a wear point for the harness.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...99a9d39-me.jpg

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...78cad54-me.jpg

Not sure why I always reverse the adell clamps but I just do and one day I will try to figure it out.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...2bc09b0-me.jpg

Okay so one wire needed to get pulled from the wrap and thankfully it was an easy fix.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...b2f9a60-me.jpg

Harness is in.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...9814955-me.jpg

I even plugged in the cluster to make sure it worked. It did !!!

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...3f595cd-me.jpg

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a705405-me.jpg

Calling it a night once again.
