I'm trying to stay up to see the next picture...

Matt@BOS 10-13-2009 10:36 PM

Congrats on getting paint on the car. You guys have got a crazy couple of weeks ahead.

Matt,

P.S.

Ty, I know you asked me about some of the material we used in our interior, and I just wanted you to know we have some left over. It might not be quite enough to cover whatever you have in mind, but we can send it over if you're still interested, that way you can look it over, see how it stretches, etc in case you want to use it.

fletcherscustoms 10-14-2009 05:30 AM

Sorry guys I never got a cell phone pic in clear last night so Ty could get it one here. I just got in the office and I'm uploading all the pics off my camera from last night!! Give me a hour or so and I'll have them up.

All the talk of bad things happening woke the evil demon in the car. Last coat of clear walk out the booth , flip the bake cycle. Burner fires, burner shuts off. Blew the pressure regulator on the gas train. So no heat, left it in spray cycle all night and it was dry this morning. But sure would have been nice to bake it!! This car is possessed I tell you evil demons!!! The car has became to be called the "b!tch"

Congratulations this is one build that really has my interest to say the least,,,, beautiful car indeed.

fletcherscustoms 10-14-2009 06:27 AM

We reached a milestone in the build last night, COLOR!!!!

Things went really well with the color and clear, beside the booth heater malfunction!! Having a $80,000 down draft booth to spray in makes things so much nicer also. Only 3 pieces of little trash in the whole car!!! We started spraying at 5:30 and by 10 we were headed to the house!! Back to pick it up today and onto in cut/buff and interior install. All in couldn't ask for a better outcome with the paint. Total man hours between five people over the last two weeks, is close to 500.

Now on to the pics!!!

Just wanted to remind everyone what we have pulled off. Heres what the car looked like 7 weeks ago!!! Still on the rottiserie with floor pans cut out and still repairing underside!

fletcherscustoms 10-14-2009 07:32 AM

I want to publicly thank my guys!! For those of you who don't know the story, we are all part timers all of us work full time day jobs!! And then moonlight at the shop at night and weekends. So all this work has been done after most folks are at home watching football and having a beer on the couch. I personally can't wait to get this thing done, to have some time off and see the family again!! lol

- Jerry (my father in law and go to guy for anything mechnical or fab wise) thanks for all you've done, from fabrication to helping me keep my head straight and keep my eye on the prize and get this thing done!

- Josh (cousin, painter and body man) for working long hours in the shop, getting the bodywork done, and the car in paint! Don't know where we'd be without what you've done!

- Wayne (friend, who runs a local body shop) for coming out the last couple of weeks after work and helping us to get the bodywork done... and doing it just because you liked the meaning of what we were doing!

- Alan (new friend, also a local body guy) thanks for stepping in and helping out last week with the body! Coming on in the middle of the build, not knowing any of us and being a true professional and helping knock this thing out!! A true friend you now are!

Vegas69 10-14-2009 07:38 AM

GREAT POST -- and whenever I talk about cars etc to people that don't understand -- I ALWAYS tell them "it's about PEOPLE not the cars"...

Rain

You and me both my friend!

It's raining again/still here in Georgia so no outside in the sun pics until possibly this weekend I'm afraid...

70rs 10-14-2009 10:42 PM

It is looking good Ty. I didn't realize you were down there right now.

fletcherscustoms 10-15-2009 05:34 AM

yeah we had to wait out the rain last night before bringing it home from the booth. Finally got the car back in the shop at 10 last night. Got a crew starting the cut/buff process this afternoon. And then I'll move on to assembly in the next day or so. Wish I could say it came out the booth perfect, but nothing on this car has gone how it was suppossed to so why should paint!! lol But nothing you really wouldn't expect, couple pieces of trash and a little sag here and there from having no booth heat!! All in all I'm happy its blue!!

RECOVERY ROOM 10-15-2009 07:28 AM

I REALLY like it too Tracy! :wow:

It's kinda funny now as I didn't really pick it out! :_paranoid

The car has always been burgundy in the 25 years that I've owned it... when I bought it in high school and when I had it repainted in 1990. The "original" plan was for Chad to just put another burgundy on it... LOL

But then Ben Hermance came up with those fantastic renderings and I was torn between the blue and burgundy so we put it up for vote right here thru a poll! So, in reality the Lateral-g community picked the color... and I LOVE it!!! :lateral:

Ty, I told you that the blue would look sick. this is going to be one sweet car and your tail lights should be on the way today.

OLDFLM 10-17-2009 02:05 AM

I know you did my friend and you were right!!

I'm heading down today with my Dad to see it for the first time in person!!!!

This will be the last time I'll get to see the car before SEMA! :wow:

OLDFLM 10-18-2009 10:55 AM

Spent the morning at Fletcher's Customs yesterday... the color looks INCREDIBLE!!! Got some great shots of the car too... but our home computer crashed last night at 0230am... got the blue screen of death and everything!
I need to check with Chad to see which pics I can post up and then I'll try to get them up early this week after I get the "Computer Man" to check out our "boat anchor" of a computer.

L & H Kustoms 10-18-2009 10:50 PM

Ty love the color it looks awesome cant wait to see it at SEMA

OLDFLM 10-19-2009 12:39 AM

Thanks!

Chad, Josh, and Jerry really did a great job!!!!!!!!

Here's a few pics... I love the way the color highlights the curves of the car!

I can't wait to see it after it's been cut and buffed!!! It looks AMAZING already!

Just ten more days until we leave for SEMA... :woot:

fletcherscustoms 10-19-2009 07:47 AM

Only 10 more days till we head west!!! We are getting close, the light at the end of the tunnel is shining bright and we can finally see it and almost touch it. Car is cut and ready to be buffed this afternoon. Once again Josh and Alan come through and get things done!! I spent 32 hours this weekend wiring the car. Such tedious work but I enjoyed, finally something on this car I could dictate and the car wasn't fighting me. All the wiring is wrapped in "tech flex" and routed to stay out of the way. i didn't get all creative and try to hide wires in places. There just routed tastefully and finctional. I'm impressed with how it all came out. Lots of things going on. interior will start going in tonight if they finish buffing. All interior parts are ready just waiting on the body guys to get out of my way.

Heres some pics from the weekend.

fletcherscustoms 10-19-2009 12:25 PM

yeah I slept in yesterday. I didn't hit the shop till 8 AM!!! I must have been out for a at least a hour sitting here. Last email I read was at 2:06 and had new ones since then. oh well, anothe rhour I can work tonight!!! naps rock!!

chr2002ca 10-19-2009 01:53 PM

Congrats on the continued progress. Thanks for keeping us posted. After all your hard work, things are really coming together now and I know you must be very excited. I can't wait to see the finished product and how all of those new carbon fiber body panels fit together. The exposed carbon stripes are going to look really sharp with that color blue.

I was looking at the rear wheels/tires in the photos. Maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me, but it seems like the tire is sticking out a little bit or at least dead even with the rear wheel well lip. Once all the additional weight is added(interior, glass, etc) and the suspension has settled in, do you think there will be any tire rubbing issues on the outside of the rear tires? Or maybe I just need to get my eyes checked or what you have there is not the final setup.

Keep up the great work!

fletcherscustoms 10-19-2009 01:55 PM

the rears sit about even with the outside edge. But the car is also slammed down as low it will go.

fletcherscustoms 10-19-2009 06:10 PM

Well we got the car cut down to 3000 tonight. Still got to buff tomorrow. The interior also started going in. Seats and carpet are installed!! pics in the morning
