That sucks Payton but glad it's on the right track now.

Flash68 11-23-2014 04:35 PM

So you're saying you won't be running the JRS decal package then? :sieg:

I have a pyro license -- and would gladly take care of this "issue". Just say the word....

That sign in the background says "ICE BEER CONDOMS" doesn't it?

Ron in SoCal 11-23-2014 09:32 PM

My homies take such good care of my car :grouphug:

Payton King 11-24-2014 06:47 AM

That stuff makes me laugh!

Pettigrew has been in NASCAR forever. His last stint was in Hendrick's hot rod shop. He is now at home working out of his shop on my car and a gasser Chevy II. Cars were almost twins until I fixed my wheel base.

Payton King 11-24-2014 10:23 AM

Continuing on the thrift shop theme, picked up a GF4A from a local race team.

Here is a little piece of information that I did not realize. The bearing retainer on these boxes are indexed for either a Ford or Chevy. The Chevy one is smaller. Guess which one was on my trans?

http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...psyitsdd4p.jpg

So we had to remove it and Jim turned it down to fit my Chevy/RCR bellhouse

mopar?

LOL

love that between your legs shifter too.

Flash68 11-24-2014 10:55 AM

What are the trans ratios again?

TRD, Silly. :computer:

Payton King 11-24-2014 12:58 PM

Ratios:

2.71
1.78
1.29
1.00

Actually there is good room for the shifter. We moved the motor to the right side about 1/2 inch for steering shaft clearance and it helped with the shifter as well. I did look into a rail shifted box and they are cubic bucks.

Ummgawa 11-24-2014 01:45 PM

It's going to be one wicked ride. You going to take it Vegas next year?

Payton King 11-24-2014 01:56 PM

Thanks Jim! I cannot imagine they want anything like my car at Vegas. This is going to be way more race car than street car.

DFRESH 11-24-2014 06:57 PM

Dude, it's good to see you making progress. All you need is someone to be thrown into the pool and you'd have a good soap opera going after everything you've faced.

D

snappytravis 11-24-2014 07:42 PM

Looking good man! a little progress, some parts, keep it rolling!

Payton King 11-25-2014 05:58 AM

D! The man, the myth, the legend. Glad you stopped by.

With a transmission, frame back in the correct spot, it is time to fit the motor to the car. Here is the mock up motor. SB2 block that had been vented by one of the Hendrick drivers along with a set of heads that had dropped a valve.

http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...pscxcmrho1.jpg

We were trying the get the motor back and low as possible and the firewall was not cooperating. Break out the plasma cutter.

Payton King 11-26-2014 06:14 AM

This is our first cut

http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...psuuspsbz4.jpg

The firewall still did not want to play nice, so we had to be more forceful.

Payton King 11-26-2014 06:18 AM

The motor slid right in and Jim locked down the motor positon. About 5 inches back and over to the right 1/2 inch for steering shaft clearence.

Nice to see some positive progress after all the other crap you went through.

Sieg 11-26-2014 10:58 AM

Can't wait to see what the hood is going look like.

Please don't copy the Merc!

Ron in SoCal 11-26-2014 11:11 AM

4" cowl :stirthepot:

Payton King 11-26-2014 11:34 AM

Oh no! you know me better than that.

Payton doesn't copy anything... the man pioneers.

Payton King 11-26-2014 11:48 AM

Yea right, that is why our cars look like sisters. Your's being the ugly sister of course. LOL

L88? :stirthepot: Glad to see you pushing through!... whats your target debut? Asking because I am trying to put pressure on myself by committing to an event and would love to meet up with you guys..

Payton King 11-26-2014 11:59 AM

A cage that was less than user friendly with more than a few questionable welds...time to start over. I am doing this for fun on the track and not to get hurt if something goes wrong. With 2 kids and a wife, safety is the biggest focus of this build.

This thing is bad. It is really cool to see a Camaro done like a modern continental series race car. Can't wait to see it finished.

Please tell me you are scrapping the TA for a traditional decoup 3 link too.

Surprised you are keeping the cowl.

Sales@Dutchboys 11-27-2014 11:07 AM

Sorry to hear all the issues you had to go through on the car Payton, Looks like you are in good hands now.

Looking forward to seeing the end result with the Nascar theme that you are going with on the car. Looks like its going to be a really cool! Ill be checking back for updates.

Beach Cruiser 12-01-2014 05:57 AM

Nice progress! You're gonna like that G-Force transmission!

Payton King 12-01-2014 12:39 PM

Thanks for all of the kind words. Will try and post more pics tomorrow.

Yes to the decoupled 3 link and yes to getting rid of the cowl.

Payton King 12-02-2014 11:56 AM

Time to get the motor plate all sorted out. Good news, bad news. Bad news is the Hendrick motor plate I was going to use will not work. Just not enough room for the rack and the oil pump on the same side.

http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...pslx6bn76j.jpg

Good news is Jim can build another one and put the pump where it needs to go.
