LMAO! :rofl: I'm almost going to be disappointed when you finish the car. This thread has it all, great information, awesome car and it is rediculous funny. Norm always offers a measured print when a project is finished. How about this time?

I was just admiring your RACK!! I know it's a Woodward, but which model is it?
Thanks,

Brent

ironworks 11-29-2007 05:36 PM

K series, the last one in existance. I had to beg for that one.

Rodger

66zz430 11-29-2007 05:57 PM

Rodger
what electric fan are using in that shroud?
thanks

ironworks 11-29-2007 06:01 PM

Spal, We made everything else

Impala TT 11-30-2007 08:19 AM

I thought that's what it was! Have you done any research on comparable racks? We're thinking of doing a Sweet Mfg. with integrated servo, but don't know of anyone with experience with them. Our car has C6 front control arms and spindles, with stock first gen track width.

Thanks
Brent

ironworks 11-30-2007 08:25 AM

I live in bakersfield which is like the redneck roundy round capital of California. Everyone I talked to said use the Wooodward. Plus the Woodward looks way cooler. If they last on the dirt and on ashpalt, for season it think they will last with what we are doing

68protouring454 11-30-2007 08:54 AM

i think woodward go its name from dirt track racing, however sweet is huge in the asphalt circle track out here in the east, they make very nice units and can go up to 22 inch between pivots. i will agree they do not look as cool, but you can get one for 600-800 complete.

ccracin 11-30-2007 02:23 PM

Sweet makes very nice stuff. I used their stuff in my Late Model. Check the 22" dimension. When I talked to them about our project they wouldn't go that wide. That was about 1 1/2 years ago. I can't remember for sure.

68protouring454 11-30-2007 06:24 PM

maybe its 21, but i did check with them as i was looking for a 22 inch pivot rack last spring and thats as wide as they liked to go

ironworks 11-30-2007 06:38 PM

Then a sweet rack would not have worked on this car any ways.

Impala TT 12-11-2007 10:01 AM

Rodger,

We were wondering what track width you went with on the Nova? We are struggling finding a power rack with a 22.5" pivot. We're trying to run stock Camaro track width so we don't have a front wheel drive looking wheel! Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Brent

there are two track widths that are talked about, hub to hub, and wheel track, hub to hub is what most chassis builders use when talking, so even if a stock camaro is 59 inch hub to hub and you build a new chassis 6.15 or whatever, you go deeper on the bs on the wheel which maintains wheel track width, yet in most cases gives you better scrub radius, among other things

novanutcase 12-30-2007 12:33 AM

My Camera Sucks!

Took a couple pictures of the car on the ground but they aren't very good! I'll try and get Rodger to snap a couple off!

Is all the fab done? Ready for body/paint? Shop projects are looking great Rodger!!

ironworks 12-30-2007 05:16 PM

Not all done, maybe in the next few weeks. we still have to build the exhaust, Mount the dry sump, some sheetmetal work, rear bumper work, fit the trunk, finish the trunk, and about 4 million other things, But almost done.

Garage Dog 65 12-30-2007 08:01 PM

Hey guys,

Just wondering what you'll do with the body/chassis before paint - blast it again and do a sealer coat ?

Thx, Jim

Hey Jim!

Happy New Year!

Frame will be blasted and powdercoated. Body will be blasted and epoxy primered.

At least that's the plan for now!

John

is chassis not welded to the body? or how do you plan to do that?

ironworks 01-02-2008 12:50 PM

The tires are 335/30/18 and 245/40/17 BFG KDW's

The body is welded to the frame and will be powder coated as an assembly

Pics have been a long time coming but, honestly, we haven't really done a lot of sheetmetal/Tube work since the chassis is pretty much done and the main sheetmetal is also pretty much done. Now it's just the little details like sway bar mounts, gussets, etc. but here are some pics that you might like:

The Meat Wagon has arrived! Notice the height of the rear tires in relation to the bed side height! BUHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...30-2007037.jpg

Front end valance with air inlet. We'll be splitting the inlet with brake duct cooling vents to each side and power steering cooler in the middle.

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...26-2007003.jpg

Roughed onto the car!

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...26-2007008.jpg

Closing off the firewall, Note the size of the Vintage Air unit. I told Rodger I wanted to pull up into the beach parking lot on the hottest summer day here in Cali and, when I get out, have icicles hanging off the end of my nose!

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...18-2008007.jpg

Trunk side pans

In our many "Stand around and throw dumb ideas out" meetings Rodger came up with a great one as we stared at the gas tank and wondered what we would do with the spaces to the side of tank! Do we just cover them in sheetmetal? Naw! Too easy! He thought to put the battery on one side and a toolbox of sorts on the other, kind of like what you get when you buy one of those luxury european super cars but with better tools(Snap On).

Final Dry Sump placement! Note the cooler than Fonzie brackets that we had waterjetted! These are straight off the jet. We will refine them and anodize. Now I gotta figure out what color to anodize them! OH CRAP! I gotta pick a color? AGAIN??!!??

Fill tube will be extended through an opening cut through the fender support

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...18-2008005.jpg

Just a general overview. She looks kind of sad wondering where she put her shoes! LOL!
