While anyone that's ever done this - or built a new car etc -- and in record time -- and there's quite a bit of work yet to be done ---- ON DAY ONE FIRST EVER EVENT -------- THE CAR WAS FASTEST OVER ALL OF THE DAY.
Now --- couple this --- with a "WTF WERE YOU THINKING" NASA decided to hold this weekends races BACKWARDS --- so nobody knows the track - the track is "sketchy" at speed -- so much so that the PORSCHE guys told the officials -- "THEY" were running the CCW (normal) way or they weren't running as a group... so they (smart) ran CCW while we all had to run CW. Now imagine -- new car - zero seat time - Poor Benny Moon has to be "DA MAN" and not only is doing test and tune - and marching to Suttons orders (LOL) about do this and that because we're still dialing --- AND the man goes out and posts fast time of the day. Hats off to Mister Moon..... The rest of the crew has been THRASHING to keep this missile moving forward. AND OMG does it ever move forward! Yes we know the video sucks - and there's all manor of things we will work on -- but being YouTube heros the first day out is not the goal. Trust me - we'll get better at this. It's a Vbox HD 2 camera system - and there's a ton of stuff you can do with it - but takes time to figure out. We will. Our fast time of the day was a 1:56.174 What the people in the paddock are saying is the CW version is about 3 seconds slower than the normal CCW layout... Sadly it's also, so hot, and so smokey that at times is hard to even want to be "active" and suck in all that bad air -- and I thank everyone that is here helping -- the crew - Dylan - Greg (TOG) - Jeff - Randy.... and, of course Mister Ron Sutton. OH -- AND SKIP the first 4 minutes ---- get right after it!! Go back and watch from the beginning later.... LOL |
Wow! That's awesome out of the box.
|
Good luck to the crew out there today!! Can't wait to see how it gets even better...

Live timing link... They just started their first session of the day
https://racehero.io/events/nasa-norc...aceway-aug-4-5 12:30, 1:50, and 4:15pm PST are the rest of the TT sessions |
Was that close to 240 mph on the main straight? That is smoking fast. I just opened it in youtube and realized the gauge is in km/h so that is more like 150 mph.

Can you re-post the YouTube link - I'm not seeing it in Greg's post. Thanks Pappy |
|
I wish I was a little guy I'd have you zip tie me in it so I could go for one lap in it.
|
Awesome the car did so well and it sounds like everyone had a good time. Car sounds awesome in the video.
The important question from here is, did you strap in and take a few laps for yourself???? Quote:

Second day - SECOND WIN
Today was basically more of the same --- tweak - fix - fuss - run - rinse and repeat.
I'm absolutely wasted after this weekend so I'm not even going to explain much -- because it's 8:30 and I feel like just crawling in bed. We fussed with the video -- changed camera angle and picture in picture orientation. We DID change the track map - and for whatever reason the GPS overrides the selection and puts the 5 mile track map up..... WTF..... and couldn't find how to change the KPH to MPH.... so that is showing incorrect - looks like big ass numbers but you'll just have to do some math. SECOND DAY - SECOND WIN..... mind you - all this running backwards stuff - the smokey air - the ash falling like rain..... it's a disaster out here right now. Just WOW. But here is THE BEAST.... for your listening and viewing pleasure. So the start order is fastest out first -- and the BMW jumps out -- okay -- no problem - we'll run his ass down when we quit playing with stuff and Ron's voice crackles over the radio -- his usual "Okay! Giddy UP! --- watch the BMW who has been charging the whole time while Benny is messing around.... LOL It's just too cool to be at the track and watching this gap opening and opening and all of a sudden -- no more gap -- SEE YA!! |
Been waiting all weekend for this update. Happy things went well!!
|
Mustang was FAST!!!
|
I don't care what the speedo is reading, it was pegged out! What a beast..
|
Awesome to say the least, loved watching that thing on track.
Track backwards or not he is one hell of a drive and smooth! Congrats to the entire team on a successful weekend. |
Impressive performance, especially with so few laps on a fresh car. Great job all the way around. Greg, get some rest and fill us in on the rest of the details.

Boss 429 LS--Love it! I've been wanting to get a blue oval emblem made with "Chevy" in Ford script . . .
This car looks very easy to drive (in the hands of a good driver). It's a stupid question, especially with all the power on tap, but do you fear the ease and precision of the Lotus coming back to haunt (or bore) you? |
:trophy-1302:
So awesome! My buddy Mickey, who is a NASA instructor, said he talked with you a little bit on Saturday. I wish I could've come out to check it out. Great job everyone! |
Awesome Greg!

BENNY MOON FTW!! Jezzzzzzus the man can drive ---- to go out in a new car -- running track that all claimed was super sketchy --- and do the way he did.... I have only the highest of praises for him ---- AND HE'S A GREAT GUY!! AND FUN. ........ I can't stop watching the video I'm absolutely convinced I can wheel this Beast to a solid 2:08 |

Did you actually WATCH the video? Is there any way in 7734 that you think it would be boring to ride a rocket? You do have SOUND on your computer?? Turn it up -- watch it again. LOL |
If this thing doesn't keep you on your toes behind the wheel, you don't have a pulse.

The BMW he caught & blew by was the second fastest car in that session. LOL |
Did you guys make it out to Sonoma for the Shelby event? Any pictures / Videos?
|
After watching that video I had to take a nap. LOL. Pooped.
He made it look easy. The good ones do. |
There were only 9 bets in the pool (chickens ?) & the winner is Chris Tremel ! We ran 1:54:78 & one of Chris' bets was 1:53.5.
Chris, you've won your choice of $45.00 or an all expenses non-paid trip to the vacation destination of your choosing. If it helps heal any wounds to the others that picked times, we did think we were going to run the 3-mile Thunderhill track the "NORMAL" direction. Depending on who you talk to, the normal direction lap times would be 3 to 6 seconds quicker than the opposite direction. I tend to dismiss the 6 seconds & think it's more like 2 or 3. So "maybe" we would have ran 1:51's to 1:52's. Going the normal direction, as Benny gets used to the car & we trim it out. (I intentionally set it up "tight") I expect the car to run 1:50's here. The one thing I am clear on, as is everyone there, this track wasn't designed to be ran clockwise. The run off areas, curbing, blind spots, etc make running this track backwards VERY dangerous in really fast cars. The Porsche racers protested & refused to run it that way, it was so dangerous. |
