Those Dutchboys...

We all are very excited about the new car. As always Mark and Matt have stepped it up again. This car is bound to be the best one yet. We also have a cool paint sceme coming together. I'm sure Mark will share as we get a little closer to paint!

With help from Joe and Paul we mocked up some graphics that was doable. Then I had Murray Pfaff take the concept to a rendering. We are getting close on a final design and color. Mainly we are running out of time so the plan is coming together..

I will post a teaser later this week.

Working with the DutchBoys is always a pleasure!

Not trying to throw Anvil under the bus, I will still buy more from them and am planning on it, just not leaving them exposed.

I'm pretty sure carbon isn't as straight as people would like it to be because it is hand laid. Therefore, imperfections exist. Although, due to it being very pricey, many people expect it to be perfect aesthetically.

The CF my son is doing at Enlaes.com is flawless... but it's also not "production" work like these kinds of parts are... and the molds are perfect -- and it's being built more for strength than light weight. SO I think it "depends" on what you're building and the purpose.

Awesome looking shop - like the updates on the Camaro!

If the mold surface is straight then the parts that come off the mold are straight. Not sure what process they use but if its vacuum bagged and put into an autoclave the parts should be real good.

Are you going to leave a carbon fiber exposed bumble bee stripe?
I'm only guessing cause there is no body work on the front of the car.

I keep watching for updates on the Camaro and the new shop!!! :computer:

The dry sump placement in the cowl. Check out the headers they are from Ultimate Headers they are shorty and fit great.

The radiator from Dewitt with the SRX fan, oil cooler, transmission cooler and power steering cooler. The core is 24" X 23" so it's fairly big.

I could use a set of those donut spares. Where did you source them?

I have 4 sitting on a pallet here.

You can pic them up cheap they look to be s10 blazer spare tires.

ps you may have to take off the rotors to make them fit.

04-06 GTO spares work too. I got four on ebay but the price has risen considerably since then.

I asked Mark a long time ago about those...they are old C-4/C-5 corvette spares. He said to get them cheap off of eBay.

Yep aluminum C-4 spares. Took me 8 months on Ebay and swap meets but never paid more than $20 each.

They work great and clear DSE spindles.

Maybe if Paul and Joe will read this they will post some pictures.

Camaro update:

Engine Update:

I stopped by Thomson Automotive and they started on my engine. I have a block, well I think it is my block. Looks like all the part are there so It will break up the winter blahs if we can dyno it soon.

http://i439.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps962ddd02.jpg

Paint Update:

I think the Dutchboys are going to beat my engine done. LOL The car is in the paint both and the PPG paint is there ready to go next week.

Here is a photo Paul sent today of the front sub-frame ready to go into the car. They are on it!

http://i439.photobucket.com/albums/q...psf3980e12.jpg

Shop Update:

My general contractor has slipped 6 weeks so that is not done either. The dry wall guy is scheduled for next week. I need the shop done before the car can come home. It sucks not being home to work on it so it will get done soon. The work they have done so far is nice. I added plywood to the lower wall like in my old shop.

http://i439.photobucket.com/albums/q...psfa2cac3c.jpg

So it is a race between the Paint work, the engine and my shop on which will finish first.

Once I get is all home it will be fun finishing the car.

Z/28 Update:

My other bigger project the 2014 Z/28 is on time and is launching great. Look for a ton of track shoot-outs features coming out soon.

The cars we beat on track in these shoot outs will shock some of you. Stay tuned more to come!

It's been a busy year so far!

GregWeld 02-19-2014 07:59 PM

Hey Mark -- I'll call Thomson in the morning and tell them how to spell your name....

And -- it should have MISTER in front of it don't ya think??

Would Charley and I be faster if we had the new Z/28 instead of our clapped out Mustangs?? LOL

It's a rhetorical question....

Sieg 02-19-2014 08:22 PM

Congrats Mark! Busy in a great way.

The guys at Thomson Auto are very busy with the shop right now. They painted all the floors and walls. The place looks great now.

If you are ever in Detroit it is worth a trip by to check the place out. It is cool place to just look around at.

You guys would be faster in the Z/28 then the old Mustangs. The Z/28 is a hoot on the track.

Think of the money you're going to save by NOT ordering the 918.... You could have TWO new Z/28's! Because you need a back up car...

GM ought to bring a couple of those to the 25hr this year. E0 class is where it'd fit.

So much for the "if you've seen one DSE subframe, you've seen them all." sentiment. I totally missed that.

Cris@JCG 02-20-2014 10:41 AM

Nice way to make use of a frame horn.. I was racking my brain out on how the hell I was going to do brake ducts on the front without affecting the turing raduis with 305's on the front.. I had the upright figured out..

Oh yes we are using the DSE Hydraformed rails for brake cooling ducts. I need to be more careful on the pictures I post....

Matt opened up the rail and capped off internally and added a curved piece to turn the air. 18 X 11 wheel no problems lock to lock.

With the Anvil lower front valance it is wide open for brake ducts. We squared off the end of the frame rail and removed all the bumper bracket holes. Then added front duct that pull of the opening in the lower valance.

Now that you guys figured that I can post the rest of the pictures when I find them.

With Carbon Ceramic Brakes you need a lot of air flow to cool the brakes. Especially when you are making 875 HP. They don't have much thermal mass so much the cooling needs to be by air flow.

Mark

k7king 02-20-2014 12:17 PM

smart thinking there. I love when I learn something new everyday.

Cris@JCG 02-20-2014 12:37 PM

Thanks for posting the picture Mark! This past weekend while testing @ Buttonwillow we came off track & the brakes were cooking.. So more than ever now we will be working on ducting.. This is a great way to get air in the front!

This is the general idea.

The lower valance is open and the outer courners are brake cooling ducts and the center is for the heat exchangers.
