I am as shocked as my friends. The dual quad 427 was a 40+ yr dream
I started to think what it would be like to have a late model engine in this truck That would have equal power but other than oil changes maintenance free The new Gen3 5.0 Coyote engines with a 10 spd auto sounded good. I decided to list the 427 on Craigslist for 48 hours at a price I could install the Coyote and have $$ left to finish other projects. I know, I know a total Dream.... until someone stopped by and actually bought the 427! So, Engine is out & sold, front clip off truck then it sinks in how much more work it’s going to be to get truck back on road. |

It’s April but this is no April fools joke.

I subscribe to one of the leading Coyote advocates/swappers’ yt channel.
Found it interesting that he posted this. Mainly IIRC that it is way more costly and complex than many ‘assume’ going in. |

A later video he is all in and says he would do it again for sure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rokgg5R-JNI Having done 3 EcoBoost swaps into pickups the Coyote should be a no~Brainer. ALthough I have not done any coyote swaps I cannot imagine it being more difficult than doing a ecoboost swap. |
I think he was all in even when he did the vid I posted, he was just hoping to educate the less informed on the possible unexpected costs and complexity.
As much as I also like the FE’s, I would make the same choice you did as well and really look forward to seeing your swap here. |
I can't believe you did that!! lol... :D
I loved it just like it was, plus it was RUNNING and driving!!! I like working on my stuff as well but I like driving them more. Good luck with the swap, after seeing your handywork I'm certain it'll turn out awesome. |

To please her I listed the engine on CraigsList to say here I am trying to sell the engine! Problem is that idea backfired and the engine sold! So here I am starting all over again . . Speaking with the "Pro's" like Power by the hour they said they were not aware of ANY Gen3 10 speed swaps done so looks like once again I will be a sucker to try to make it all work. Knees already knocking just thinking about it but in the end I think I will be much happier and the wife a BUNCH happier with a late model engine. I just will not tell her I plan on adding a SuperCharger just to make it more HP than the 482. With proper mods and tuning I am sure the Gen3 Coyote would make equal or more but who wants equal? HUGE FE fan since late 1965 and even more so in 1972 when I worked on my first one. Then stepped it up in 1978 when I bought my first dual quad 427 car with a 4spd. (One of only 6 built) But now that the years are piling on the wife deserves as much enjoyment as I get out of it. I am hoping the Gen3 Coyote 10 spd auto with or without the SuperCharger will make the truck that much more enjoyable on trips over 25 miles each way then stopping to fill the tank . . . Wife being a accountant she was not at all impressed with the 50 cents per mile just for fuel. Like most of my projects this will be a HUGE undertaking. In search of proper donor now. May have found it but I have a actual "Budget" to do the swap so will see how that goes. |
I guess that is understandable...Happy Wife, happy life and all that. :D
Good luck man, hope the upgrade is as easy as it can be for you. I'm waiting for parts to show up myself, finally taking the EFI plunge with Barney. I'm probably as much so if not more nervous about that as you are with this coyote 10 speed sway... lol... #gluttonsforpunishment |

I have a bit of experience with the FiTech.. I ended up spending 4000.00 by the time it was up and running. Not inc labor. Lost 75% when I sold it. |
I went with a Holley Terminator 4 bbl TBI. My fastburn heads really limited my intake manifold choices or I would have tried to go multiport. I'll use the ECU to control timing thru my MSD Pro Billet dist.
