DOOM 08-03-2010 08:12 AM

Well I was going to ask what causes this now I know. It seems like this is something thats going to take awhile if at all to figure out. I'm very new to this stuff but one question I have is, how do they deal with this on the ZO6 and ZR1 Corvette's or any car that has this type of setup for that matter??

Those car's arn't running live axle rears.. :)

And most production cars have floating calipers. The rest have designs that don't lend themselves to movement like we have.

Matt@BOS 08-04-2010 10:36 AM

Steve, are you running a True-trac?

Matt

Matt@BOS 09-03-2010 02:00 PM

So I was going to keep a couple things a bit of a secret, but when Dick sent me this picture I just wanted to share it. Keep in mind it isn't done, and several parts of the design will be tweaked before it goes to paint, but even now I don't think it looks half bad.

Nice hood Matt!

Saw it at the shop today Matt - looked real nice. However, you can't have a hood like that and NOT have a twin-turbo setup wanting to be cooled by those vents!

I'm just sayin'. :-)

The insurance deal should be sorted out soon. I think there has been total of four independent adjusters who have been assigned to work on the car. I know I posted it somewhere, but there was a total idiot (2nd adjuster) who never showed up, then there was a third guy who seemed ok, and finally a fourth guy that told Dick he would get his initial estimate in the 40-45k range so that we could get started and only have to invoice a few materials. I'm hoping we get a check at the end of next week, due to Labor Day and everything, things have been a bit slow. Still I'm a little upset that it will be about a month before we get a check, especially because we're shooting for a deadline. I guess I can't complain too much as long as I get paid though. I'll update the insurance thread when we hear back from Hagerty next week.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention something, I just bought a set of these pedals: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TIL-72-603/?rtype=10

they'll require a little bit of fabrication work, but we're going to be putting down bars (is that the right term?) on this time so we're modifying the firewall anyway. I'm a little surprised I've only seen Tilton's pedal assemblies on a few cars, because this setup is uber trick. Everything is adjustable from the pedal ratio to the to the position of the throttle cable linkage and position of the pedals. I got it for two main reasons, the first being that I hated the Lokar gas pedal assembly, which pivots between the pedal and arm, and IMO just sucks. It's hard to heel-toe easily with it because when I roll my foot over it just moves the top of the pedal via the spring at doesn't blip the throttle. The Lokar pedal was also miles closer to the firewall than the brake pedal adding to the difficulties. The second reason I got it is because it provides different front and rear master cylinders, so I can run a 7/8 front and 15/16 or 1" rear m/c to hopefully alleviate some of the knock back feel.

Those Tilton pedals are nice. Tyler bought some for his camaro.

Very nice.. but adjusting to the floor mounted pedals is tough..

speedshftr 09-04-2010 12:38 PM

i never like the floor mounts it reminds me of a vw.im sure you will get used to them though.they do look sharp

Sort of...I mean it is a very different feel. If you've ever driven a Porsche, you do get acclimated quick. I actually prefer it.

I also agree w Matt's assessment of the throttle position relative to the brakes.

Yeah I would think those would feel weird... they look sweet though.

What Porsche did you have? My 996 surely didn't feel or look like these. Felt very typical.

Ron in SoCal 09-08-2010 09:58 AM

993 C4s. Sweet car, very predictable to run on the edge. Sure the Tiltons are different, but it's the same concept compared to the first gen set up/realtive throttle location for heel/toe. Maybe I should adapt a Porsche set-up instead?

Payton King 09-09-2010 07:19 AM

Curious to see how

you are going to mount the pedals. I would guess the masters would come through the toe kick of the floor...on my car it would hit the headers.

I am runnng a twin master and ended up with .70 front and .75 rear master. Wilwood super lights 6 piston front and 4 piston rear.

Hood is fantastic!

Yeah, I'm not quite sure what we're going to do. I was looking at the pedals, and the floor yesterday we're going to have to cut the floor as it starts to angle up to the firewall. It could be simple, or Dick might end up cutting a fair amount of stuff, probably the latter. I think the master's could fit inside the the cabin as long as the reservoirs are mounted remotely. Not sure on what sizes to run yet, maybe 15/16.

Oh, and would anyone know the specs for the T56 clutch/master?

You can always do it like Bob did on his cuda. There not remote but they offer a remote option

Yeah, no problem haha. I'm going to warn you though, the more I think about this, the more of a pain I think it is going to be. There's a chance we might not even have time to get the pedals figured out due to time constraints. BTW I don't know if you saw the new hood in person, but If you're interested in letting out some hot air, seeing as you have a pair of hair dryers hidden under the hood, you might want to think about one. I did all the guinea pig work on that too

We've been making some good progress on the car, and we intend to have the car done in mid November in case we happen to win Muscle Machine of the year. I never figured in a million years that we would ever be in the running for such a thing when we got this car several years ago.

Dick has been thrashing away on this car, and it will be coming together pretty quickly. It's kind of like last year all over again.

Dick and I (mostly Dick) have been trying to figure out the floor mount pedal, and it looks like they are going to be a royal pain. The clutch master needs to go exactly where the frame rail bends up on the subframe. In order to be close to making them work we're going to have to have the drivers seat way back and move the steering column closer so everything will still be within reach. I might have to go with a set of hanging pedals if everything fails.

*edit* found some pictures of the pedals.

You know what you should get?

These:
http://i52.tinypic.com/2hdtv89.jpg

These are new from Anvil- 1969 Camaro rear 1/4 gill scoops. They work as brake ducts if you open the panel gills up like you have done.

Just sayin'. Food for thought. Operators are standing by.

Bitchin' those are very bold sir, perhaps too bold for anyone without blue hair. Still, I like them. Only problem is those would sort of stick out, and my car is about being a little over the top - albeit in the most understated way possible. Besides, the ones we made could be functional, although I sort of gave up on making them work after I realized the cooling ducts would have to be routed through the inside of the car to get behind the 335 tires.

Any other parts you're planning on? Maybe a hood with vents on either side of the cowl?

Matt

Update: More progress from the end of last week/weekend. After pulling out more of the interior my usefulness is approaching its end. Luckily though, Dick is ready to fit the quarter, and soon it is off to the paint shop. In fact, someone has already been busy prepping parts...

:_paranoid no...!? I haven't heard anything from them yet. On the good-guys site it says the winner is announced Friday. Not sure when they let me know, maybe I just have to go to the website. Dick made sure to send pictures over to Kyle to let him know we will be ready if we have to be. Oh the anticipation of not knowing. :willy:
