Yeah, them are some big meats!
|
That is pretty sporty!
|
This is absolutely the most like a car this thing has looked since I've owned it. Knew I should have bought some stock in bondo before I started on these fenders, at least $100 in bondo on the floor. Panel fit is amazing good for what a cluster this thing is, hope the fiberglass parts fit this well.

Torquedork was at it again, from stock to C14's on an Xperimental. I'm hoping I can do his photoshop justice.

Now ^ that one has the shape!
|
Played with it a bit more cleaning it up and raising the rear wheel well slightly. Also used a slightly different '71 AMX 1/4 panel photo to ghost the accent line in. It really breaks up the 1/4 panel nicely.
http://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/...ps239aa37e.jpg Ron mentioned Red so gave it an Earl Sheib paint job. LOL http://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2eced6d8.jpg |
He also mentionned white with gold wheels....
:whenitsdone: ? Lead. |
Everything is kind of roughed in, and I do mean roughed in. Now I need to fit it to the car, and clean up the edges. The nose still looks kind of long to me, even after cutting 3" off of it. Front end definitely shows off the need for the quarter panel mods. Man I hate body work!!!

Looks good Ron. I'm guessing the nose looks long due to the lighter color. Start working your magic on the rear quarter eyebrows!
|
Nose looks fine. Start working on them quarters.
|
I think it looks good, Ron. I'm sure it'll look even better in color. Keep up the good work.
|
The nose looks perfect, start working on the quarters.
|
I think it's interesting that you say you hate body work but you do a very good job at it.

Hating something - but doing a good job at whatever that is -- are completely separate issues. Ever sanded louvers? LOL By the way -- my brother in law lives in Boring... |
Yes, I've sanded louvers. Pretty time consuming.
I do body and paint because I know how and I am too cheap to pay someone else. The OP is very good, even if he hates it:thumbsup: One of my favorite threads to read, keep up the great work. |

I think it looks great and will look even better once you tie in the quarters. |
Ron,
I think I got pretty close adapting your recent side shot to the earlier clean image I did to put things in perspective. http://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/...psea966d99.jpg http://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/...psd702b7aa.jpg |
This is going to be such a cool looking car when it's done. Keep up the good work Ron.
 |
Probably as close as I can get with the mods and dialing in what's been done so far. You mentioned Viper Green at one time and gave it a shot.

This car genuinely looks like it would look awesome in any color.

Now for the right price I "may" be able to get you some :idea: |

No, but I just threw your air cleaner away the other day.

What brakes and pads etc are you running on the Mustang Ron?
I'm in the process of working thru some brake issues on mine with Ron Sutton. |
I'm running Carbotech XP10's on the front, and 12's on the rear. Due to the tandem style master that car has on it I was forced to balance the brakes with pads differences. Baer sent me the newest 6S system they had 2 days before the car left for Optima, didn't get a chance to figure the balance out before Vegas, and it was a disaster. Slid the car off course every lap, totally my fault for not setting the car up before it left.
As soon as the fiberglass plugs are done on this AMX, I'm going to change out the master cylinder setup for a dual master cylinder. I'll try a 7/8" front(which is what I'm running now), 3/4" or 7/10" rear, and run XP10's all the way around. It will require major firewall mods to run that setup, that's why its not done already. Keep in mind that car has humungus brakes on it, 15" 6 piston front/ 14" 6 piston rear. |

Soooooo.... that's not really the same as my single C4/12" on the back half of my car? LOL |
If Ron Sutton has the time.. Maybe do a thread on brakes & put it on sticky.. Their is alot of information people need to be educated on that could help with brake set-ups.. I personally think 15" front & rear 14's are way to much brakes.. lots of rotational weight..
I will share my controversional information! Quote:

We should have a brake tech thread full of Ron's info, just because. |

No Dave, mine actually has the more aggressive pad on the rear. That was the only way I could get any kind of rear brake, with the 49F/51R weight ratio, and 275F/335R tire stagger. The car still needs more rear brake, that is why I'm changing the masters.
Greg, I started out with 12" C4 brakes. Drag racing the car, and autoX, I thought it was the sh!t, stock pads, Dot3 fluid and all. I took it on my first road course, about 15 laps in, while doing my typical bonzi down the straight, came to the turn and no brakes, at all. Thank God there was a lot of run off, couldn't even get to slow down. That's when Todd from Baer gave me a quick school on how stupid I was. One of those lessons you never forget. |
I had my car set up the same way at one point. That was the only way I could get enough rear brake in my car to take the proportioning valve off full kill.
|
Interesting. Most of the Vette guys have similar stagger (don't know their weight distribution off hand) and they all ran 10 front / 8 rear or more aggressive 12 front 10 rear. Figured I'd see similar setup here.
My dealer recommended the 10 front 8 rear for me and at the time had 255 front 315 rear tires. Whatever. :mock: |

We do the same thing for rear braking bias..

Just because I love body work so much, I decided to make the front bumper, grill, and headlights as one piece. Figured if I was going to make the bumper out of fiberglass, I might as well make it an assembly. Should clean the front of the car up, and make it easier to put together. Besides the grills for these cars go for $650, I will just run the stainless mesh like I have in the Mustang. Got the nose pieces assembled, will make the grill out of sheet metal tomorrow.

How to make a AMX grill for about 4 bucks: First get a bunch of scrap metal, Second weld it together. Done.

You don't sit down much do you?
Nice work. |
That looks MEAN Ron! Love it.
