I've mentioned Lexus Atomic Silver a few times. One just happened to park outside the neighbors house yesterday and thankfully it was clean. Gave me a chance to sit and look at it for a few. Snapped a picture with the current spray outs to get a better idea. I'm diggin it, but not sure it's right. https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-jq3qBCM-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-ftKr5Lp-L.jpg |
I went through this gray silver thing a few years ago when my dad painted his Sport Fury, I've witnessed your pain! He ended up with a Saab color that looks just right, color darkens around body lines and pops in the sun.
Out of the two you're showing in the picture, I'd be leaning towards the lighter color. :headspin: |
I loved this color I painted my previous 68. Never see it on many cars, now or then. I liked it because it had very minimal metallic which most other colors seem to have a fair amount to a large amount.

Called my pops, he said it was Saab 279. Looks good with chrome, black trim and his gray centered torque thrusts.
Put your top colors on the wall and throw a dart..... |

That lexus color is sharp. I would consider it a transitional to contemporary color for a muscle car. Wait a minute, we aren't talking about houses.
In all seriousness, I'm going through the design of my custom house right now. In the last stages. The overall vision is important in your color choice. A modern color will work great with a modern theme. Meaning, engine, wheels, interior, luxuries I'm building a transitional house. Meaning, not to traditional, not to contemporary. A modern balance. I don't know if this helps, but I thought I'd share this perspective because building a custom car, which I've done, and a custom house are in the same ball park. I pieced my muscle car together and it turned out good, I've spent some serious time on design and preparation for my home, I hope it turns out great. |
COlor
Just my .02 but with what looks like brushed centers on the wheels I would go with a middle to darker shade of grey. The Sterling Gray BMW color would look great with those wheels. I am having a hard time with color right now as well. I have a 68 and my forgelines have black centers. I was looking at the Atomic Silver but wondered if the color was too "New" for the older muscle car? I also looked at the Porsche 918 Liquid Metal Silver. GOOD LUCK!!!

Curtis, I would highly, highly, highly (3x) recommend you take a look at the silver they are using on the 2015-16 Dodge Viper. It is the best shade of silver I've seen in person, and I'm not a huge fan of silver cars. It has a shadowing liquid aspect, which seems to shift as you walk past it. Very similar to a wheel finish that most know as "hyper silver" with the dark undertones and depth. It would look absolutely killer on any car.
Customer car that was here last week. http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/r...-Flushloc3.jpg http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/r...-Flushloc4.jpg http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/r...-Flushloc1.jpg http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/r...-Flushloc2.jpg http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/r...202016/049.jpg Tony |
I like it, wheels would need to go darker.

Curtis, oops! Duh! just realized you posted Atomic Silver a few days ago.

I like it, but it just doesn't do it for me. I'll post some of the examples I've been looking at. |
Working from Dark to light/Gray to Silver, here are some of the examples I've been looking at.
I haven't been able to find the exact name of this Gray, buit it's similar to most of the darker ones I've looked at and it's just to dark for me. https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-ZhMKsXX-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-XZXh8hf-L.jpg Forget the messed up body kit and focus on the color..at least try to. From what I was able to find, this is Pepper Gray, which is used on the Elenore Mustangs. Not bad, but it doesn't seem right either. The pictures below is supposedly also Pepper Gray and I really like the way it looks in the picture. But when it's darker....not so much. https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-zZ2krZS-M.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-CGJpzHc-L.jpg No idea what this is, but it just screams "NOPE" to me. https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-qjQcmPg-S.jpg So Mike and Trevor appear to be running the same color. Lamborghini Titanium Silver. The light really plays well in it and I haven't seen a picture I don't like of it yet. https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-9GzVS8f-M.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-rHDTbfr-M.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-CjwgZPf-M.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-MfvCcc8-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-vDS94VN-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-vjnwKZ8-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-nKfWcXZ-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-hzvpSDZ-L.jpg -CONT- |
Don't you dare use the pepper gray from the Eleanor.... :snapout:

The silver that Mark used on Mayhem is pretty slick. SUPER bright...maybe to bright?
https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-LVgLhs6-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-62wN5dZ-L.png https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-76KvQxg-M.jpg I haven't been able to find any info on the exactly color or this car, but it does look wicked. https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-rxLqhwv-L.jpg Another one I haven't been able to find into on. It's looks really sharp in this pic and reminds me of Mike and Trevors cars, but I'd bet it's pretty bright in the sun. Really like this car. https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-fJJsx7h-L.jpg Doug Susold used 2007 Viper Silver on this build and it looks very sharp....not a sharp as the new 2015-15 Silver IMO, but it's been on the list. https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-wQXcRDZ-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-J5NB8qw-L.jpg Supposedly the first two pictures is Cortez Silver. The second two below it are for sure. https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-j3Bmq2h-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-TNW3G2N-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-jZNS7kL-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-KVTH7nB-L.jpg So basically they are all the same, but totally different. :knock: Headed out to see if I can find an Silver Viper to look at. |

I originally supplied the paint for that car but it never got used. The code is from Porsche, M7Z GT SILVER I believe at the time I had to have PPG help me get the code it was only available on the high dollar HYBRID they built. To bad Curtis I gave it away not to long ago.

Driving Mayhem into SEMA - with crap all over in the aisles - and guys running around on forklifts... and wooden crates... That was nerve wracking!
Great looking car! Well.... everything except that dumb orange stripe... :D |

Small Update...but first: I STILL HAVEN'T NAILED DOWN THE COLOR  Jim is going to do a few more spray outs for me. Honestly my brain needed a rest for a few. :confused18:
Jim took a break from the car and focused on some upgrades to his house while his girl was away. Sounds like a new sink and the addition of a bay window and sliding door. He also did some repairs on his daily driver. Pretty crazy for 10 days worth of work. :confused59: He's a machine! Back to the car. Sounds like he's thinking one more round of primer and the big stuff will be good to go. After that he will blow the car apart and go after jams, etc. All the small stuff. Watching all this take shape and seeing all the time spent to do it right makes me think of people that are shocked at how much it costs to paint a car. It's a lot of work! https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-z46Z2ps-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-96kbKxv-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-pdvvS7s-L.jpg |
