It runs like a top. Starts easy and idles at 650 rpm. From inside the car I barely hear it but Scott says it barks at him if I lean on the gas. Great power. Got 23.6 mpg one day. Another day I got 20 mpg. Never overheated, never leaked. It feels like it should handle and stop well. The brakes felt perfect. We are going to run itat the Gingerman event this weekend so we should have a chance to see how it handles. I have one of those Go Pro video cams so we should have some decent video. The people that saw the car on Power Tour pretty much it was a perfect execution of a build. It all just looks like it belongs. I think it is my favorite of the Stielow cars. The power is so linear compared to the Mule. This car is going to see alot of miles...

Thanks Charlie...

For us very interested onlookers it is great to hear from you about how well it is engineered and just flat out works.

Very happy for you and Mark that all that time, hard work plus money invested has produced a notable car that has exceeded your expectations.

Charlie, did you find the hood latch?

Yep, it's really quiet at idle and cruise, but when you stand on it, WOT under load, it's pretty loud. It's a really deep sound like it has a huge cubic inch big block... best way I can describe it I guess.

Here's a video of it idling by....

What mufflers are on it?

The reason I ask is I think my magnaflows are blown out. I really noticed it leaving bristol for the 12 hour ride home. My head was numb and hearing impaired for about an hour once I arrived home.

Is the second hole for a seperate fuel level sender?
Is it the stock depth tank?
Is there an external GM fuel regulator?

Ricks tank with the new ZR1 pump, module, and controller installed. Works fantastic, but the pump, controller, and module are about $3500, and then you have to figure out how to make the controller work................. :wow:

Jody --- In 6 months - that same pump and controller will be $499.... and come with a push button option for settings.

I just hate that when that happens!!

frojoe 07-22-2009 04:47 PM

Are there any resonators or anything? I can't believe it's THAT quiet from any aftermarket performance muffler alone!

If you somehow overlook the wheels and the massive 'vette brakes behind them, it's a total sleeper! Great looking car

In the hotrod feature there was a add of Stielows book " building the mule" It supposed to be in sale at Scoggin Dickey ? I have emailed them without any reply. Anyone seen this book? Does it have more details than the PHRs mule feature ?

Book won't be available till Dec - just spoke with them.

clill 07-23-2009 01:29 PM

None of the PHR articles covered any of the twin turbo conversion I had done. This will be the first time any of that is in print that I know of.

buickfunnycar.com 07-23-2009 04:30 PM

Cool build book,I read that last night as well...may have to pick that one up in Dec when it's available.

Bowtieracing 07-24-2009 02:53 AM

Hmm well at least there is one reason to wait December....

Is there more of interior - detailing featured than in PHR series ?

I bet this thing is going to be an amazing ride. I love the ZR1 goodies combining 2 of my favorite cars ever.

dwfastcam 08-31-2011 08:29 PM

I was pleased to run into "Jackass" in person parked outside of Atlantis in Reno, for Hot Augest nights. Love this car

senor_Camaro 09-01-2011 11:51 AM

I really love your builds, i like the way you bring the car up to speed on modern technology without killing the original look of the camaro.

Jack Ass 2.0

http://i439.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps6e50f16b.jpg

I purchased Jack Ass back from Charley Lillard to give it a freshening up. That car has been on 4 power tours and ran in 2009 OUSCI and finished 3rd. It is a great car and just need a little updating.

Plan:

Swap out the Morrison sub-frame for a Detroit Speed front sub-frame. At the time we did not know how to make the LS9 fit in the DSE sub frame and now I have that sorted out.

Adding Bosch ABS to the Brembo Carbon Ceramic brakes. The car is very hard to drive fast with the grabby Carbon brakes. I’m going to copy the ABS system off Hellfire.

We updated the LS9 last year with CNC ported heads, a bigger cam and smaller pulley. It runs strong but not super strong. So I’m going to get a new 427 short block from Thomson Auto to make another 900ish engine for JA. Kind of a mister potato head engine from parts I have laying around. If we can sort it out it will also be E-85 flex fuel deal.

I’m sold on the DYAD Centerforce clutches so I’m swapping that out and also switching to a Tremec T-56 Magnum transmission to handle the 900ish ft*lbs of torque.

From everything I learned on the Z/28 program and Hellfire I now know how to keep these engines cool and reliable. I have C&R making the latest and greats cooling system for JA. Those guys are great.

We are also going to rewire the whole car to be common with Hellfire. This was the first LS9 we did or for that matter anyone had did and the wiring could use some cleanup. I’m also adding the same on Race Technology dash and data logger as Hellfire. It worked great and I loved having all the data to look at later.

We scaled the car before we tore it down and for a all steel Power Tour car its weight was about where I thought it would be. I think we might lose 50 lbs but that is about it. I'm keeeping it a steel fendered car.

http://i439.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps09fbe585.jpg

So watch the “Part for Sale” forum because I will be selling most of the take offs from Jack Ass 1.0 and we move to Jack Ass 2.0.

That didn't last long and we are all quite relieved because of it. I tell my wife I'm taking a break after each big project. It never happens, I get bored way to quick.

fleetus macmullitz 01-07-2015 06:15 AM

Could you fire JA up please Mark?

Then the windchill may rise above 0° (for us frozen tundra dwellers).

:thankyou:

GregWeld 01-07-2015 06:16 AM

Always the rabbit out of the hat for you Mark!! LOL

So few people EVER update a build. I've never understood that. Since to me the hobby is about "doing" not being "done". But I also understand taking something that's pretty decent and disabling it. This is going to be great!

Frankenstine 01-07-2015 06:16 AM

Oohhhh Yehhhh

Sounds like a PLAN Mark, Def going to watch this one:D

What happened to HELLFIRE? CL purchase it???

I agree to this also. I think about improvements to mine, but I also think that "wow" that was a lot of time and money, and to sell it or scrap some of it is money and time gone. I tell myself to just start with another one.... Probably the wrong way to look at it. Just how I look at it until I get over it. I am not even looking at it as R.O.I. Just how I initially see things.
But now I can sit and watch the evolution of this car, after seeing it the first time.

hifi875 01-07-2015 09:16 AM

my car is never done. there is always something to do to one. thats what i like about it. Ive got a 1990 mustang coupe that is DONE(nothing stock of course) and my 03 Z06 which is 100%stock is done and i don't want to open that can of worms on it. The camaro will never be done

WSSix 01-07-2015 10:26 AM

Glad to see JA getting some love.

sleepertime 01-07-2015 10:34 AM

:flashie:

Sweet Mark, That car has been the start for my inspiration for my build.
It's great to see it will be further improved. I can't wait to see the results.

Stielow

Not to Hi-Jack the thread with this detailed topic, but.... are you using the OBDII interface to run the Race Technologies dash? I've been looking at them for my Nova and talked to their rep. briefly at PRI about it. With what I understand, most of the inputs can come from the factory ECM via OBDII...just trying to see if anyone else has actually done it on a GM ECM.

Vince@Meanstreets 01-07-2015 11:26 AM

oh I love me a sequel.... liking the punch list too!!!!

Che70velle 01-07-2015 11:42 AM

Mark, did Charlie purchase Hellfire?
Glad to see this car getting an update.
