So, just a little insite on what Vince is talking about. The roll center on the stock subframes on first gen Camaro's is 2" below ground. Optimum would be 2" above ground. Vince is going to model a subframe with correct geometry on his computer software and we will rebuild accordingly. After Buttonwillow this year we will be modifying my front stock subframe. We will be modifying the attachment points of the control arms, going to a coil over shock, work on recessing an adjustable front sway bar into the underside of the subframe, and then possibly recessing the modified stock subframe into the car approximately 2".

In the mean time...After my last Thunderhill track day in April I changed my front alignment settings and raised my rear roll center by raising the watts pivot. I couldn't wait till July 1st for my next track day so I will be heading back to Thunderhill on May 19th. Target lap times to be in the 2:04's which means I will need to shave at least 2.5 seconds off of a best 2:07.4 last time out.

I wonder... that sounds like a fair amount of work and modification to a stock sub... is it worth it (financially speaking)? I assume the various nice aftermarket subs out there have all this incorporated in, yes?

Costs will be far less than picking up an after market subframe. The only material items we will need are a bit of steel, a set of double adjustable coil over shocks, and a big maybe on a Chicane kit. I dont see costs going over $1500 and thats including the chicane kit. In addition, time will be on our side as I dont intend on signing up for any events between October and Aptil so Vince will be able to plug in as time allows. I dont think relocating attachment points for the control arms would take more than two days as long as we can keep our noses to the grind stone. lowers will be the easiest as all we will have to do is drill holes and relocate. Uppers will take a little more time as we will have to cut existing attachment point of arm, measure and cut correctly, and then reweld. Shocks will need to be installed at correct operational height and the shock mount tower can be custom or we may do a chicane kit depending on the length of shock dictated in the chicane system. 650 lb coil over springs can be had in a 10" but 700 lb jumps to 12" and I want the 12" option available if needed. My guess is another day on the shock tower assembly.

There is alot of time between now and October and things could change but for now this is the plan.

Hyperco makes 10 inch springs up to 900lbs (which is a little less than I run). Let us know what you come up with, Im curious what you can do.

In a 2 5/8" I.D. coil over? Thats what I'll need for the Afco coil overs. I'll have to look them up.

Hyperco does carry coil over springs in 10" up to 900 lbs but they are 2 1/2" I.D. I imagine 1/8" shouldn't be a big deal. Thanks for letting me know.
