I actually got the car titled in my name and license plates at the DMV today. It only took 2 years and 10 months. :_paranoid Procharger is supposedly sending my D1SC back next week after a cleaning that allegedly takes 3 weeks. So hopefully will be heading back up to Sacto to do a higher powered road test soon. :woot: |

Flash, I too think you should darken the intercooler. Kinda give it that 'charred' look...

I love the new blue paint on your Nova. |
Well overall it was a good Saturday afternoon of some tire-shredding, clutch-break-in driving around the Gearhead shop in Sacramento. Absolutely no traction in 1st, 2nd or 3rd even with the 335 drag radials. I asked Jason if we could move the motor to the back before the end of this week. :D
Just after I gassed her up with some pathetic California 91 octane and prior to getting on the freeway for some 4th gear pulls, an electrical gremlin bit us in the arse. Something likely minor - like a $5 switch or a crimped wire somewhere is the thought as most functions still had power. The guys at the shop did some troubleshooting but it was getting late and we all had to head out, so we packed her up for the weekend and called it a day. But the 15 street miles I put on her were mostly full throttle 1st thru 3rd pulls. I beat on it pretty hard and that was the intent to try to put it through some hard field testing before we take the road trip to Pleasanton this Friday. This week we are planning to put in some steering stops and dyno tune, and hopefully extend the exhaust with tails. It is extremely loud, which I do not mind, but the backfiring on deceleration every time I can probably live without. I told Jason I liked backfiring when I was 14 but not now. :woot: Of course we had planned on taking pics and doing some video toward the end of the cruise but it was cut a little short. It was the best day I have had yet with this car in the 3 year journey, and I can't wait til this weekend to cruise and hang with the guys for the GG show. :lateral: |
The Amalgamated Rubber Workers of North America want to thank you for your support, past and present; and look forward to together creating a dark striped future.

You're finally getting to the good part. Take out that three years of waiting on it everytime you drive. :unibrow: It sounds like you're making some serious power. I find the streets around town to be pretty greasy and you won't hook it to well. I like to get out of town off the beaten path to get some real traction. It's more like the drag strip will be. Are you running it down the 1/4?
|
Sounds good Dave.
She must be a beast of car if you're struggling to grab 1st, 2nd and 3rd!!:wow:  MUST,...HAVE,...VIDEO!!! lol:cheers: |
well, I wasn't planning on Pleasanton this weekend, but I may change my mind just to come by and take a peek.

I will try and make it to goodguys as well!

Glad you are up and running Dave, I was just at the shop dropping mine off, Jason said it is crazy trying to drive yours even regulally, no traction.
Hope to see you at the show. |

I plan to run it down the 1/4 as soon as it's tuned and the clutch has a few more break-in miles. Quote:

Looks like my Saturday hammertime session didnt sit too well with my motor. Blew a head gasket...
With Jason's dedication to keeping our GoodGuys appointment for this weekend we should be good to go. It's always something! :willy: :D GoodGuys or bust! |
I guess thats why they call them shake down cruises. I 'm glad you will have it done for the show. Sweet ride.

The heads are off and I can't see anything major. Intake was sealed nicely, gasket failed between cyl #3 & 5. Gaskets seemed pretty rusty, and steam ports in the block seem to be causing wear into the head. I will have Don assess it- not too worried. Head looks to be a little warped too. We can run an MLS gasket if the head & block surface are smooth enough. I am going to have the heads pressure checked to ensure that they are fine. Also, I never noticed any sign of detonation- plugs look good, no evidence to speak of & Mark (the GM/FAST tuner) never had any concerns in that area yet with the tune. |
Nice to hear the car has plenty of power! And that it will be back on the road Friday...WE NEED VIDEO!!!
How much boost is it making? |
