12 but I think they only had 9 winners this year. Jerry Magnuson's 32 went over pretty well you might say.

Speaking of Jerry...... You never told me how your trip went to Magna Charger.

I've got one picture! The hood is coming along, albeit kind of slowly because I wasn't as clear as I could have been on the design so Jeff had to go back a second time and rework some parts. The aluminum didn't really want to cooperate to begin with, and with something this thin, it was a bit of a nightmare to keep warping to a minimum, so as you can see, it is taking some time to straighten it out.

I would love to have a hood like this in carbon *cough*Tyler*cough*

Of course. It doesn't look that different from the last photo, but they are all tacked in place now. The base we made angled the pedals back a bit to make them a little more comfortable for the driver. They felt weird being perpendicular to the floor. I forgot to take a good picture from the outside where Dick is working on a plate.

By the way Rodger, how did the Magna Charger trip go? I've been telling myself I don't need a supercharger, I don't need a supercharger, but they sound so sweet. Now I come to find out they don't whine like they used to. What the hell?

Matt

Matt@BOS 10-07-2010 07:27 PM

Per Dick's orders I have to post up the pictures he took at the end of today:

Yeah, we're shooting for SEMA. We're going to be parked next to Bad Penny in the Source Interlink booth. It is going to be deja vu for the next month for us, except hopefully we make it this time lol.

More pics to come soon. The jams got painted yesterday, so when the car goes together it is going to be for the final time.

Also, before I forget to say anything, I want to thank Kyle and Stacy Tucker who took the time to call us yesterday even though we didn't win the DSE sponsored Muscle Machine of the Year award. It was exceptionally nice of them to remember us, and great to know that they seemed genuinely happy that we were using their products for their intended purpose. Thanks guys!

Matt

I knew that connection was going to be inevitable  . I've been wanting to do a hood for a while and was originally toying with a vent in the front, a la the Corvette C5R but then decided to go the other way when I saw the first photos of the Ferrari 599 GTO's hood and figured something like that would be easier to make and look more at home on a '69, especially on a car that already had the side "gills" opened up. For a while I thought of doing both, but figured it would be too busy. It certainly would have looked more SCARish if we'd done both ideas. To me SCAR's hood looks like it could have been the brainchild of Steve Saleen of Mustang tuning fame, who never met a gill or vent he didn't love. It just doesn't flow with the rest of the car, and however intentional that decision was (black hood on an orange car) it really annoys my eye. Sorry for the mini rant. It just got the better of me.

When building a hot rod, one must get a little inventive from time to time. Today was one of those times. I learned something interesting today, which I shall forever commit to my memory. In fact, with the beauty of a little invention called the internet, I can share my newfound knowledge with you. I suggest you guys also commit this to your memory, if for nothing more than the fact that this next story makes for some pretty entertaining imagery. When a car has a little home built rolling frame under it consisting of box iron and 6" roller wheels in place of a rear axle, putting in a subframe, even with a lift can be somewhat problematic.

Here is a list of necessary hardware which I have compiled for anyone attempting such a feat.
1 two post lift
1 engine hoist
2 rolling wheel cribs
1 standard floor jack
1 aluminum floor jack
1 2x4
2 jack stands
2 of Steve Rupp's 18x12 wheels
2+ idiots
2 creepers for idiots

Don't try this at home kids:

Gregg, you missed my point. Never mind. ;) Oh, and don't forget about the sign. If you could make sure it has a provision for a chain so it doesn't get lost this year that'd be great.

Dick sent over some more pictures today. In the email he requested "a can of good gaps" from Doug.

Today we have something that resembles a car:

Yeah, that isn't far from the truth. Some days Dick, Jon and Jesus are all working on it. Thank god for the insurance check.

Josh, be sure to get some of your trademark Blackberry pictures :)

Gap improvement spray is now a part of the Game Enhancement collection. Before we jump right it to Gap improvement spray lets start with a little Tall Dark and Handsome Spray. After seeing you at Camarillio Autocross you could use a generous application. We can take care of any gap issues at SEMA on the car but the Tall Dark and Handsome spray does not work as fast as the gap improvement spray does.

Car is looking good. :D
