Thanks! Been a long time, that's why I dont post up much cause I'm sad it's taken me so long. Feel like i'm leading you guys on with updates.
I really do hope it starts this weekend or next. Still a while before it's complete enough to drive, but it's time to test the powertrain! |

May have just picked up some seats....

Should arrive next week. I can't wait. |
It turned over today. And even fired off.
It sounds badass. And it's loud. |
Congrats man! Always cool to hear a new one bust off.

Congrats Will !!
Both on snagging those seats (sweet deal) and firing up that beast. Would love to see a video ? and what mufflers are you going with ? Cheers Steve |
Not much video yet. There will be though. All eyes were watching for fuel leaks, oil leaks, etc.
Didn't get much actual running time. Wouldnt stay lit. It has two 14" vibrant resonators. |

Then, time to button it ALL up! |
Definitely a long way to go, but it's getting closer. Still have to finalize all that wiring once we get the car running/set to where it wants to stay alive. Has me mildly nervous about the push button start setup on a motor like this...

See I am not sure it is, i think it has a delay hold like new car. Doubt it keeps turning and turning. My biggest concern is shutting it off. I believe it said on brake and hold button for 3 seconds...That seems excessive in an emergency situation.
|
I wired mine up with a toggle switch that powers a relay that controls constant power to everything except the starter. Toggle it off and the party stops, kind of a poor mans anti-theft.

Agreed. Couldn't be happier with pulling the trigger on these.
|
Excellent! Look great!
|
Thanks. When they get bolted in you'll have to come try them out.

That subtle pattern in the seats fabric is really cool! Through the years, Recaro has always had the best designs; our favorite probably being the confetti seats.
|
I also actually like the pattern seeing it in person. Wasn't my first choice. Just the one that became available.
Keep that confetti :-) |
What style seats are those they look like they fit the car perfect. Do you have any better pics of them installed in the car ?
|
Just got them yesterday. Hope to have them fully installed soon (or at least fully mocked up).
They're Recaro Sportster CS seats |
Well well well....
|
Sounds good Will,I bet you are excited now.
|
Very excited. I can start putting it back together with confidence that it runs.
|
Cold side went on today. It did quiet it down some but still just LOUD. I like it :)
Let it run to operating temperature and spotted some coolant leaks. Sadly one of them is inside behind the AC box. It'll be coming back out anyway for the AC lines to be hooked up (just coolant lines right now). I'll double check those hose ends and the AN adapters and try again. Forgot how much I hate having dexcool on my hands... |

Thanks man. It's coming along. Think I'm gonna put the front end back on tomorrow.
|
beautifully done. subscribed

Not a camaro but chevelle...what are your thoughts on the rad core support , are you happy with how everything fit, price, quality etc.? Thinking of getting one for the SS with a complete carbon front-end I figure it would be a nice complimentary part. Btw love your car
Thanks for any help Ryan |
In short, hell yes.
There is a reason not many complaints on the AutoRAD. It's just a nice piece. My only gripe is one caused by myself on project creep. I paid for some intercoolers and never even used them. Sold for half what I had in them. Again, that's my fault. They just wouldn't support the power I'm going for. You won't be disappointed. |
Meanwhile:
Got the fenders back on the car as the engine wiring is mostly complete. http://i.imgur.com/MHKNkLV.jpg http://i.imgur.com/l3iXJ2k.jpg http://i.imgur.com/kf8CGUA.jpg Very happy with how well the coiled concealed in the fenders. I can reach them all but it's not fun! http://i.imgur.com/WrJfDmm.jpg Trimmed the filter close out a bit for the coolant lines to pass through. http://i.imgur.com/CYbIvzu.jpg Showing off the filter placement a bit. Passenger one was straightened a bit after the pic. http://i.imgur.com/GqTPXH1.jpg Also got the remote reservoirs for the JRi shocks secured as well. They'll be accessible from the bottom when complete. http://i.imgur.com/Xc9fiWP.jpg http://i.imgur.com/bcwNP9d.jpg Will get some more front end pieces on tomorrow hopefully. |
That view from the front is 100% serious business. Were anxious to see this in action soon!

Sorry no great pics with this update, but spent the weekend doing under dash wiring.
Pulled the AC box to make AC lines and fix some leaks on the heater hoses. Reinstalled that. Quote:

I didn't work on the car for the last two weeks after burning myself out on the wiring. Got back on it this weekend, to see if i could finish up the chassis harness integration and test the push button start.
Well this is my first turbo car so was looking over logs and thinking about the wastegate setup and realized, I was thinking about how it worked all wrong! I thought it applied pressure to the bottom with wastegate pressure reference, not bleed it off! With that thought process and realizing 0% duty cycle meant full MAP got to the bottom of the gate, made me realize I had some significant vacuum leaks (no plugs in the other 2 bottom ports). The ports that got plugged. http://i.imgur.com/CUC5QXB.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ccv6uoK.jpg While the gates were out, and realizing I just dont have enough pump to support my E85 dreams, I pulled the springs and installed an 8.75psi spring (was 10.25psi prior). http://i.imgur.com/EfY7oqC.jpg One thing I learned that was VERY nice, is that it takes about 1hr to pull both gates, swap springs, and put them back on. Could probably be done faster, since this time included putting the plugs in the bottom ports. With the wiring tidied up as best as it can be in the dash, and the push button wired, i decided to put in the dash to see how it looks. http://i.imgur.com/TJM7cqm.jpg http://i.imgur.com/Wnt8Lnt.jpg http://i.imgur.com/JgOX19i.jpg It looks badass... Sadly I see that I need to shim the steering column down just a bit more. Still want to figure out a way to recess the racepak into the dash. Also found that i'm missing the tabs for the fasteners for the dash, so it's just sitting in for now to test. And it works. The illuminated button is the push button start. I do plan to blacken that AC display surround, just haven't done it yet. http://i.imgur.com/w7SmpWb.jpg http://i.imgur.com/zbjjWFd.jpg The buttons on the right control: Lights (worked with racepak dim feature, i tested), Dome light, Holley input, Line Lock. The buttons beside the racepak are the control functions. Some issues came about with this work. #1 - The damn heater hose still leaks in the car. Going to have to pull it again, and try to re-install and solve that before it all comes back out to replace the hose. #2 - The start button was a bitch. It defeated me today, until i went in, sat on the PC and grabbed a beer to research. I found that my instructions had apparently been updated (online) and it was going into a mode that wasn't clearly explained in the instructions. I got it sorted and the push button works no issues. #3 - The racepak wasn't displaying with the car on. I hadn't tried to program it prior to starting it so hopefully that's the issue. Well i went to use the USB as directed to program the unit...They didn't send me the latest software so I cant program the IQ3s (street dash). Part of being in the first set of shipments I guess. I'll call tomorrow. William |
