Like the old hill climb guys use to say, the green backs will always take it in the rear but the veterans do it straight up front.
Glad it was a dead center squash instead of a devestating corner hit. I guess that's one way to get that Union jack off the back. LOL Good to hear he got away better than the car did. |

It's not that bad but I'd think I'd like to paint it the opposite colors of the mustang. Body in titanium with yellow stripes. And that would be a good excuse. Hahahahahahaha I'll wait to hear from Brian to see what happens. |

Skip - I spoke to some folks at SEMA about doing it, I'm just not sure I'm prepared to take the risk. Rather than mess up Greg's thread we can discuss in the OLC reinventing thread. |

Laguna
Greg
I wish I knew you guys were going to be at Laguna. I would have figured out how to get out of handholding. Glad everyone is ok It would have been fun watching you guys tearing it up at Laguna. See you guys there in March? Wondering what they are going to do for noise limits? I have been told no clubs have been offered 105 days next year The Pantera was kicked out of Sears a few years back running 104/105 db but no meatball at Laguna earlier this year on a 105 day Panteracer Norcal Bob |
Quote:
Holy Cow!! I'd forgotten about that paint scheme!! Maybe that's the perfect ticket --- it might keep Alex from wanting to drive it!!! PERFECT!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Quote:
Bob --- Yeah --- it would have been fun to have had you join us! It was a NorCal Shelby Club event. They've not only told us no "club" 105db days -- that clubs will be 90dbs!!! A stock Corvette can't make 90 !! We had a good time --- but there was a lot of delays because there were LOTS -- as in OMG LOTS -- of off track excursions…. and a major track oiling… and it was an easy track to run out of talent real fast. Charley brought out Mayhem and he only got two sessions in and both were more like half sessions… There was just too much carnage. It's going to be fun to see what happens during the ARCS event -- because my guess is there's way too much horsepower and way too little talent… and I'm betting there's some pretty banged up stuff at the end of the day. I hope not -- but if this event was any indication -- OH MY. |
Laguna
I have been running with the Pantera guys
at Pahrump, Firebird and Reno Fernly for the last 8 years. No mufflers-straight 4" pipes on the 180's and lots of track time. Race group is only 8-10 cars so lots of room to run. I had to have another set of mufflers to run Thunderhill and Sears. Laguna-forget it now Unless we can get any 105 days They are supposed to be race tracks Cali events are beginning to suck Panteracer |
It's really sad Bob -- because that track is in such a beautiful spot -- and is such a fun track to run!
My guess is it's some new neighbor that has brought all manor of lawsuits and finally managed to find some obscure FEDERAL regulation on noise…. Personally -- if that's what it is -- I'd like to drag said person out into the Monterey surf and down to the bottom of a kelp bed… and see if they like the quiet of Davey Jones locker. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Not really…. but I hate that kind of stuff. One guy can ruin it for everybody. Quote:

Well Brian has the rear off the Lotus --- and there's less damage than I had imagined…..
Ordered a header and new exhaust system for it… and trying to find the 5 element carbon fiber rear diffuser here in the US… Then Terry McCarthy emailed me (his son is the, now 15 year old, that I let drive the Lotus and they're going to buy one and race it for this upcoming season)…. and we started chatting about Laguna Seca --- his exact comment --- "Laguna eats more cars than all the other tracks in California combined". Good luck with that for the PT cars on street tires and big hp… and little seat time for many drivers…. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA I'll post up pics of the carnage that Brain sent me as soon as I can figure out how to get them off my phone. |
Quote:
So how did the Mustang engine run after the repairs? Do you have any in car videos from the Mustang at Laguna Seca? |

Dale -- I rarely take any video… and didn't this time either. The Mustang ran great and drove great! I did one session with too low tire pressure… not sure what I did -- but man was it wiggly down the straight into turn 1 and 2… Next session I got the pressures right ---and Mary and David told me to hit the "Z" in Mazda on the bridge and then brake after the crest… That worked out GREAT!! There was quite a bit of traffic and way too many off tracks and delays - especially for a one day event -- but I may never drive there again - so all is good! |
Quote:
Hell no!! There is irreplaceable damage - and the car will cost 10's of 1,000's to repair and maybe never ever be right again! Quote:
Oh!... Dude --- this is going to be FUN!!! Right up until they run out of talent. Quote:
I can do the forward thing --- and I even know how to get there -- the problem is it will only forward as an "iMessage" and not email… and I want the pics in email. |

People that plan to run Laguna Seca would do well to watch this video of a Lotus 2 Eleven MANY TIMES…. his lines are impeccable…
Good luck trying to get anywhere near his 1:33.656 lap time though… Watch it full screen and in 1080…. |
Here's another good video to watch if that race series is going to run Sonoma Raceway…
The BLUE 2 Eleven is for sale - with lots of extra parts - for $79K |
The cell phone pic of the damaged rear end on the poor little Lotus….
http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...13/file-25.jpg Brians shop has it torn down already… The good news is the intercooler seems to be fine - as does the gauge on the Accusump --- so the damage to the structure seems to be minor (as far as we know at this point). http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...13/file-22.jpg http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...13/file-20.jpg http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...13/file-19.jpg http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...13/file-18.jpg |
Gw
I absolutely hate your new track toy got bruised. Very happy nothing happened to your son. I am sure it wiill be back on the road in no time.
Nice looking shots of the stang. |

Thanks Payton! The Lotus will be fine… and the worst part is… I don't think Alex even bruised his ego. |
Quote:
I couldn't resist! Any time there is a green flag and checkered flag, this can happen. We all know it, and do it anyway. Chics dig bruises! Glad everyone is ok and had fun regardless! |

I hear ya Chad…. ME? And ego?? HA!!! Not one that will fit in any oversized room that is… On track days --- I think Charley told me early on…. "visor down - race on!" So true!! This is the first track day --- other than when I was following little Tommy around --- where I felt I was finally driving within my skill level. My problem usually comes when I'm on the track with nobody in front of me --- then it's harder to judge your speed and I tend to hammer it too hard. This time when nobody was around -- I actually slowed down and took my time to find the right lines rather than trying to "catch up" to someone way ahead. It was MUCH MORE relaxing --- and my guess is -- my times weren't far off of the hammer down times because I probably carried more speed overall. The "smooth/slow is fast" comes into play -- a lot less jamming the brakes and furious saves -- and a lot more just smooth turn ins and less wheel input. I even said to Charley at Laguna -- "I think I'm finally learning". Hey! Better late than never!! |
POOR LITTLE LOTUS!! ALL NAKED AND ALONE…. hahahahahaha

That is one lil 'Loteye...bare and unashamed.
 |
It's apparent who taught him how to drive.

Quote:
Yep! I called Bondurant and left him a message that I'd like a refund. |
The good news is you can't teach drive but you can hope to dial it back a hair. :D

At one point I finally got past the last one for a while and took off down the back straight... They had the chicane setup that day and as we started to get close to it, the instructor said... "Don't forget to drive here..." I nodded my head and he said "It happens"... I went in a little bit hot but just had to lift a bit, not loosing the car or anything...but I've never forgot him saying that and every time I've got out in front since, not following (chasing) anyone, his voice comes back to me. "Don't forget to drive here" Sorry about the damage Greg but glad nobody got hurt. |
Quote:
Great advice Lance! Yes -- the last thing you want to see is your kid or family getting hurt (let alone ANYONE else) when you're supposed to be out having fun. He was sore - but fine. The seat is good -- he was wearing my new carbon fiber helmet so had less head weight.. and was well strapped in. |
Quote:
I gave him the advice that Sieg gave me to tell him --- Just fold "it" in half…. I think he started out that way -- and the yellow group I put him in was pretty jammed up - but as the day went on - the group thinned out -- and I think the first time he had some room to run --- it ended up this way. Trust me when I repeat -- this little car is very quick… it's very deceiving because it's so small… but with a 63% rear weight bias… that can stack up against a guy real quickly. |
Send him the bill, that will knock his ego down a notch.:superhack:
|
I was communicating with Greg the day of the Laguna event. Greg sent me photos of the wreck. I laughed and then asked Greg "Whats the first thing Alex said to you after he wadded the car up?" Alex's answer....Will it buff out?
Gregs response....What turn did you lose talent in? I was laughing my ass off. What a great line  |
Greg,
What kind of motor is in the lotus? Something with a roots blower? |
Quote:
Lotus uses TOYOTA motors ---- this one is a 2ZZ-GE 1.8 liter motor with a supercharger. It is rated at 252 hp. It was used - without the supercharger in Corolla T Sport - and Celica GT-S and even the Pontiac Vibe… When you add the supercharger -- it turns into a nice little motor that revs to the moon. It is completely stock motor - stock valve train etc… and is rev limited to 8500 rpms. The variable cam timing doesn't kick in until 6200 rpms and there's a HUGE difference in available power if you keep the rpms up. Check out the cam when it goes from just cruising around to "race on" mode -- hahahahaha Intake Exhaust Duration Valve lift Duration Valve lift Low Cam 228° 7.6mm (.299) 228° 7.6mm (.299) High Cam 292° 11.2mm (.440 lift) 276° 10.0mm (.393) |

GW - I'd consider having Brian save a box of goodies from the repair put them in a big black box labeled Lost Talent and wrap a big bow charcoal and yellow around it for a Christmas present. :secret: :D |
