Yeah I bet you are... what weekend you gunnin for this summer as of now? Can you make a May event?

Track Junky 04-26-2013 11:34 PM

I can make May 18th but it would be without my shocks(Two week build time after submitting info) so it would be pointless to go out and try to tune but I was invited out to a Track Masters event the day before so I might just take her out just to see how the engine feels.

I'll get back to tuning suspension in June with NCRC.

If you can make it out on the 17th you should. I'd like to introduce you to these guys. My buddy Bret has a killer car collection and builds Camaro's back to original condition down to every nut and bolt.

I assume your talking power to weight ratios Siegy and if that is the case I'm shooting for the 4.5 range with me in the car for next season. This season I should be around the 5.1 range.

Going to Penske 7500 DA's. They are a rebuildable shock with rebound and compression adjustments with a shrader valve for nitrogen that will take from 50 to 250 lbs. Truth is I should go with higher rate springs in the rear but I'm hoping to add spring rate via nitrogen. Not the recommended way to go but we'll see how it works. In addition there is a guy local to me that can do all the valving changes to them for me if needed.

I was talking May. Track Masters always takes the Fridays before the NASA weekend events. My buddy Bret was a miultiple SCCA champ from back in the day and he was going to have me chase him around the track. He's running in the 1:57 lap time range. Although I just talked to Vince last night and with his work load he's not 100% sure we will be ready.

Hang tight fellas. I've got photos, and vids to down load and my 12 hour work days tend to get in the way.

I'll leave you with this for now......we spent 6 hours and dynoed with intake lobe center at 104, 106, and 108 degrees, used three different carbs, two sets of headers, and made 23 pulls.

Not a whole lot of difference between the different set ups to constitute a change and all info still needs to be transfered onto a flash drive that I would like to filter through.

HP and torque came in a little lower on this dyno which was a bit disappointing and mostly on the hp side but as we all know all dynos are different among other variables. The cam was originally installed at 106 intake lobe center and we ended up setting the motor up with the cam straight up at 108. HP came in at 597 at 6300 rpm as opposd to the original 620, and torque came in at 557 at 4700 rpm's as opposed to when it was originally dynoed at 561 at 5000 rpm.

Thanks guys.....photos and vid to follow.

GregWeld 05-13-2013 09:25 PM

Gae ---- Glad you started out with a whole lot of whining.... :D

Glad to hear you had a good time... that's a lot of dyno thrashing!

im running a bbc 540 and wanted it to really breath so bought 3.5, but i didn't buy U section to go over the axle cuz i didn't think it would fit. it looks like you have plenty of room! thx, rm

You can get a 3.5" 180 U bend, it should be a breeze.

Sounds good Tracky!! 23 pulls dam!! I love it and i bet you learned a lot

Waiting for vids and pics :relax:

Hey you know that is just for tuning purposes and you got that done. The real numbers that matter are those lap times at T-Hill and Sonoma.

Keep me posted on when you are getting out. I am there.

One more "whining" comment out of you mister and I'm going to remind everyone who fueled that little statement to be added to my thread title. :catfight:

All kidding aside, thanks Greg. It definitely was a good time.

Yup, 23 pulls......seems like lots of thrashing but she seemed to hold up well. Joe's a solid guy and taught me quite a bit.

To be honest, the thing I'm happiest about most is she didn't leak a drop of oil.

Vince finished up the sway bar sliders weeks ago and we were going to drop motor in last weekend but figured it was best to spend Mothers Day with the wives rather than be in the dog house on Monday. On top of that he's buried and there isn't any room in the shop. We decided on Memorial Day weekend to drop the motor in and hopefully wrap up the sway bar deal.
Track day schedule pushed to June 30th at T-Hill with NCRC. I'm sure when Vince see's June 30th he'll breathe a sigh of relief.

89 RS 05-14-2013 07:55 PM

Good to hear Gaetano, sounds like a solid motor. Look forward to some pics and a video or two.

intocarss 05-14-2013 09:12 PM

I'm Really Happy For You Track X..

Sieg 05-14-2013 09:23 PM

Glad to hear the positive progress Gaetano!

T-Hill, Casa Ramos, June 30th.........Hmmm, that could be a real good target for a Norwood road trip if the stars by chance align.

sik68 05-14-2013 10:13 PM

Sweet Gaetano! Car is gonna be a blast. I'll see if I can make the 30th too, I wanna see it run. :Tomcat:

I can probably get some pics up soon(currently stored in the computer at work) but video wont go up until after Memorial Day Weekend. Need to still retrieve it off of Garard's(dyno shop owner) Go Pro.

I've got a few extra minutes here at work....let me see if I can tranfer pics to Photobucket and post.
