Some dimple die work and stick a fork in it! She's done!! LOL
|
Ron,
I know you said you’re not a fan of rear spoilers but this car NEEDS one. That being said, I hate 2 seater AMX morons that put Javelin spoilers on their AMX’s which makes them look even longer in back. But you have pushed the rear wheels back to the point where it will look good on your car and the look of the car will balance at any angle with the shorter front. http://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/...ps30ed4b2b.jpg Looks better at any angle http://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/...psad9ba7d0.jpg |
Agreed but not that one. :D 2nd Gen Camaroish maybe, similar rake as the front window, but needs to blend with the eyebrows. :headscratch:
|
It may not be a popular opinion, but even a front splitter and a rear wing would look right with this particular car.
|
love it Ron!!!
|
Love it!!
|
Ooo Torq Dork is on to something! It needs to lay back a little more but I like it!
|
The spoiler I added is from the 1970 Mark Donohue Javelin which he designed for the Trans Am cars so it's a good fit for any 1/4 panel accent line and should be functional at speed.
The later ones are similar but different. http://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/...psccc05c10.jpg Think Ron is sort of thinking about the Viper Green. Rear hump and spoiler added. http://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2552d14a.jpg |
Really looking good Ron. Nice work.
|
Tried to make the C Pillar accent change a little more realistic and put some color on it..... sort of.

Can't wait to see the splitter rendition. :whistling:
|
nice work so far.
Who is making the molds for the fiberglass parts (and then the parts themselves)? |
Haven't totally nailed down the fiberglass guy.Now that the parts are made I have to go back and add a 2" fin to every edge to made the mold a little easier to work with. Using panel adhesive to attach the metal fin. This is a case of you never have enough loose Vise Grips when you need them. What time you save making barely welded parts covered with a lot of mud, you lose making them mold ready.

My son Alex is learning about making things "mold ready".... because their carbon fiber parts have to come out of the mold PERFECT.
Project is coming along nicely Ron! |
I know you had mentioned your son was doing carbon parts. Is he working for someone, or did he start his own shop? I would imagine the learning curve on carbon stuff is tough. I know the pricing on the c/f stuff is way out there, but I know the carbon material is crazy expensive.
Glass is probably way more practical for something you lean on a lot at the track. The carbon is just sooo sexy. |
Alex and a buddy started their own company -- WWW.ENLAES.COM -- not a plug by the way.
They don't actually make the product - they have a vendor or two that does that - but they've been getting involved with the modeling process - and the molds - and anything else they can do to learn what the processes are. I don't think they have any interest in the manufacturing part of it... But they should know the craft. They sold $70K worth of parts last week... so they're starting to get some traction. They've done a couple "co" marketing deals with a couple companies and that seems to be gaining them some "cred". Hey - they're young - living the good beach life and having some fun - and LEARNING a bunch about doing business! It's way better than what they learned in college! |

Alex must be a sharp kid, it only takes one time doing composite work to figure out you don't want to be the manufacturer.
If I had a buck for every email I got wanting me to make a Mustang nose or fenders I'd be set, but the thought of cranking out glass parts would make me nuts. I'm trying to get hooked up with a local manufacturer to produce this stuff. The AMC stuff is not something anyone else would want, but if I make Payton's Camaro stuff, (fenders & quarters), I think I could sell the crap out of that stuff. |
So you're doing the fenders in Carbon right :underchair: :D :D :popcorn2:

I am actually doing drag week in Sept. with my buddy Frank. We are taking his twin turbo 63 ChevyII which runs mid 8's on pump gas. They are doing it in Oklahoma this year, I'm assuming due to the popularity of the Street Outlaws show.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIUp...o2gHCp_R3S3HfQ Just putting it out there, if there are any members in the area for just in case reasons. The car is super consistent and reliable, but no chase/support vehicles are allowed. Have to trailer the slicks, tools, beer, etc.. Hate late night wrenching anymore, but with something like that it is very possible. If anybody is close with a lift etc., I'd appreciate any hospitality. Thanks, Ron |
Ron - if your doing drag week - expect late night fixes light every night...
If your not breaking something - your doing it wrong! I've seen many horror stories of the most random crap breaking... Not that I've ever done drag week. |
The thing I do like about Drag Week, is you can drive the 250/300 mile run to the track and if the car is consistent, it can lay down one pass and your done. As long as we can lay down 8 sec passes at each venue I think the car will do well in the small block class. (6.0 ls1 iron block) hope it holds up.

Now that is a road trip. Sounds like a blast Ron.
You bringing your AMX grill to work on? :headspin: |
AMX grill DONE, in your face Dave!!!! well at least the plug.

Just thought I would post a contrast picture between the old and the new. Don't know if it was worth all the work for the minor differences, but it does clean it up I think.
http://57hemicuda.smugmug.com/Cars/A...DSC01128-L.jpg http://57hemicuda.smugmug.com/Cars/A...bay39678-L.jpg |
Wow Ron, that actually a huge difference!!!! Definitely worth the extra work plus not to mention it's very cool.
|
I'd start over.
Just kidding! Looks great  |
You roll into somewhere - like a car show - the whole place stops and watches you.
"not much difference"...... Gitouttahere! |

Just in case anyone wanted to see the plug just before it gets a mold pulled off of it. Still needs a couple prime and sands, but its made. Get yourself some a dat!!

Talk about a glutton for punishment!
Well now that you have that done you can start on the Bat Wings. Besides trendsetting looks they'll make great uprights for a wing. |
Man. All that work and it doesn't even fit a Camaro. :underchair:
|

...it'll be just another pretty face Ron.
:D |
When I'm done with this, I'll weld the edge of a hood on it, and I think its going to have to be some wall art.
