Small world..then we have met! I showed up about 1/2 way through the shoot.

You did a great job! Not sure if it was you or someone else, but someone had the refelection picture of my car in poster form on eBay. It is hanging in my garage now.

Justin@EntropyRad 01-21-2015 01:43 PM

I shot the base image on the turn table...a talented guy named John Macura did his Photoshop wizardry to create the mirror/reflection shot

Payton, don't you think it's about time you fed the dogs?

Payton King 02-20-2015 06:31 AM

I am heading back out there Monday. Look for something next week.

Gammaboy 03-16-2015 09:28 PM

Aaaaaand Thennn?

Payton King 03-17-2015 06:25 AM

Let me get some pictures loaded up.

Payton King 03-17-2015 11:12 AM

I had to go back in my thread to see where I left off. Have pics downloaded so here we go.

When I last left off we (Pettigrew and myself) decided the cage was not safe with poor weld penetration in many areas. Cage and floors cut out, new firewall, floors and tunnel. Now time for the new cage...and yes the roof needed to come off to get good welds all the way around.

We pushed the cage further out so he had to make some mods to the frame

Much better, especially on the A pillar bar!

And is that a RSRT box I see on the bench?!?! :D

Payton King 03-17-2015 12:31 PM

Yes it is...decoupled 3 link.

Justin@EntropyRad 03-17-2015 01:01 PM

That cage though

Can't believe you had to cut the roof off..but it will be rigid for sure

Flash68 03-17-2015 01:02 PM

There's a new King..... his name is Payton.

Love this thing. Done right!

Build-It-Break-it 03-17-2015 01:13 PM

Wow, very nice. Night and day on the fabrication on the car now. Good to see some progress.

GregWeld 03-17-2015 01:44 PM

Ron Sutton Race Technologies (RSRT) "I spy" game!! Love it!!

Payton -- it's just going to be so worth the heartache.... This build is just smokin hot!

LS7 Z/28 03-17-2015 01:55 PM

So this far into the build how far have you shifted from used Cup car parts to ordering new expensive stuff? It's a slippery slope my friend. It starts out one way and ends up completely different. I'm sure there are a couple things that you've bought twice or three times already, you know how it is.

Is Ron also helping you with Front end geometry and sorting out the brake system? Can't wait to see more progress.

WSSix 03-17-2015 03:21 PM

Very nice, Payton! Always good to see forward progress being made.

Vince@Meanstreets 03-17-2015 03:25 PM

Forward progress is always good.

Sieg 03-17-2015 04:21 PM

And parking brake. :action-smiley-027:

57hemicuda 03-17-2015 05:39 PM

All street cars need parking brakes. What would you do in the winter when you run into the convenience store, and want to keep the heat running?

GregWeld 03-17-2015 07:16 PM

I now have to go look and see if USCA has an E Brake rule.... if they don't - maybe they should.... I think it's a legal requirement as a piece of safety gear on a "street" car.

The Miata has one.... LOL

waynieZ 03-17-2015 08:24 PM

Major difference Payton. Very nice!

SSLance 03-17-2015 08:28 PM

I used the parking brake in my Monte Carlo just a few hours ago... Jus sayin'

:D

dunnjun 03-17-2015 09:24 PM

Glad to see you're moving forward again Payton!

Don't stir the pot Greg.:underchair:

57hemicuda 03-18-2015 04:50 AM

If its not mandatory Greg, it should be. What happens if you need to get out and adjust your kids car seat at V.I.R., or need to vacuum all the dirt out of the car after an offroad adventure like Jeff Cleary always needs to do. A chunk of 2x4 just ain't cool.

Payton King 03-18-2015 06:58 AM

Thanks guys!

Some parts have been used and some have been new. My braking system is all new stuff and so is all of the suspenion. As an expample, the rods that I have for the motor are $3600 new. I got them from Roush with 3 test dyno pulls when they were working on bore and stroke combinations...$600.
Do you consider that used or tested? I call it a bargin.

Ron Sutton is working with me for front and rear suspension design and car set-up.

Which goes right into my next few pictures of the decoupled 3 link mock up. Sutton took my information and made a blueprint for the install. After installing the housing mount I had see what it looked like.

WOW! Coming out BADA$$

GregWeld 03-18-2015 07:18 AM

My leaf spring car is just looking older and older by the day.... You're killing me PK! LOL

Oh -- but mine runs and gets tracked -- so I have that going for me.... :>)

When this bad boy is done -- You - me - RS - DG - SS and my buddy Andy - we're coming east to run some of those big boy tracks! I'll bring the cars and the boys can come for the weekend... Mostly because I always wanted to "run" with some "NASCAR" cars.... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Justin@EntropyRad 03-18-2015 07:43 AM

All sorts of wizardry

Can't wait to see the finished product..in person :confused59:

LS7 Z/28 03-18-2015 07:45 AM

Damn that's cool. You're heading in the right direction.

Sieg 03-18-2015 08:01 AM

Payton - Damn nice recovery since your discovery of the limousine wheelbase.

bonecrrusher 03-18-2015 09:34 AM

You going to have wedge and trackbar adjusters in the rear window?

Panteracer 03-18-2015 09:45 AM

Thrift car

Payton,
very cool stuff.. you can actually see the angles Ron and the boys
talk about in real life fabrication

I thought my cutting the swaybar and adding new tabs was
an undertaking.. not even close
