It’s funny how metallics flip, from sun to shade, from dark streets, to under city lights…you never know what it’s gonna do. My Chevelle is GM Silverado silver and we added a tad more pearl to it. It turns to a light blue hue in city lights at night. I know I’ve mentioned it before here Jody, but check out GM Brownstone Metallic before you lock in a color….and body lines enhance every color also. What’s ugly on a 70’s wagon is fire on a cool car…not that 70’s wagons aren’t cool.
It was available on silverados. It almost turns a shade of grey in the evening shade and city night lights. I TOTALLY regret not going brown on mine. If I could repaint it, it would be Brownstone. |

Jody,
Serious question…what new things have you learned from this build? |

Patience  Long builds have a disadvantage of too much time to change your mind; new parts hit the market, new ideas hit your brain, etc. :secret: I'm not even done but there are things I'd do differently now. Wish I would have considered a 19" rear wheel/tire combo out back, just for a little more tire height and to fill the fenderwells better. There are billet intakes now that would allow the intercooler to be located in the intake and top that's low enough to clear my stock SS hood. I like the Texas Speed intake I have and the intercooler I chose will work great, but it was a lot harder to fit in the car and to plumb the additional cold side piping. For the most part I wouldn't make any radical changes to this build, as this one has been in my head for 50 years. Just picking the right color and getting my car back from Painter Jim are my next goals. |

I agree, the length of time the cars are apart, and new products cause me to rethink sometimes. I have to stop, and regroup, and think through the process. I've already changed engine and transmission from the original start of the build.I am trying to stay on track at this point, and move forward as quickly as I can. |
I keep thinking we are going to see pictures with completed paint.

Jim did a spray out of the Porsche color above and it looks great. The ONLY thing is it's not the brown I had pictured in my head for 50 years. Jim may come up with something I like better, I sent him my rendering for an idea. If not the car will look fantastic in the Anthracite brown.
Here's the latest brown I found, but it's a made up color I believe. There's a paint code but it indicates that it's not real. |

Determined to use a factory color or open to tweaking one a little?
It seems like you know exactly what you want when you see it… and you just haven’t yet… very very smart to get a generous sized spray out and see it in different light and times of day. |

Dammit Jody, I thought we had settled on the anthracite brown. :P
|
The anthracite brown will look great. However, so does the rendering. Given you have a color in your head, I say mix until you get it the way you envisioned. Good luck!

No updates on the car, but I did finally pull the trigger on a new lift. I left my last one at our house when we sold it and moved, seemed like a lot of work to move it lol. Been working on a few cars for friends and working off the ground sucks.
Picked this one up and assembled it by myself in about 6 hours. When doing one of these an engine hoist is your best friend as the rails are HEAVY. :confused59: I only have 10' ceilings in the new shop so I can't go all the way up to be able to stand under the car, so now I'm looking for a good rolling chair that's really stable. My cheap Harbor Freight stool has been reliable, but it'll "reliably" pitch you on your a$$ without warning if it hits a crack or small rock. Any recommendations are appreciated. I like the Vyper chair but it's pricey. |
Knock a hole and put a recess in the ceiling. :)

Go for the Vyper chair. Its worth the coin, I use mine constantly.

Still looking for THE brown, something like my altered rendering. That is likely going to be something custom mixed. I also really like some of the darker browns, I'll know it when I see it. |
Paralysis by analysis… :P

Finally figured out how to Photoshop to a darker brown without making everything in the pic darker, it's very close to existing factory colors from Mercedes and BMW now.

I think I'm set on a color. I know... BMW Macadamia brown metallic.
First two pics are my rendering with the modified color I worked out. To me it's very very close to this BMW color. I love it. I actually saw one in a parking lot today, and from every angle, shade and sun it looked great. I added a few pics of this color on different vehicles to the bottom. I know brown is not a popular color, but I love it. And I plan on keeping this car forever, hopefully I can stick to that. Thanks for all the suggestions and pm's, you guys have been great. |
Get the paint bought and sprayed on the car ASAP that way you have to much invested to change your mind. :)

Saw this on BAT. It's Honey Bronze with lots of pics.
Now that I see your last post, your wanting something darker. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...ign=2025-10-07 |
