My OCD is killing me (( 11-12-20 ))
Yes, I am aware I have a problem and after I finish this car I will seek therapy.
Racetronix sell black anodized adel clamps and I had to have them even though now one will every notice them. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...b2f6e28-me.jpg They also sell a very nice aluminum -6 line clamps. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...dfc7439-me.jpg I also picked up some Knotchead -6 soft line clamps. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...28a61e1-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...8d5e3ac-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...930dc72-me.jpg |
Not going to lie to you guys it's been 20+ years since I have bent brake lines (( 11-14-20 ))
So it has been years since I made brake lines and I figured what the heck I have nothing but time so why not give it a shot. I decided I
was going to make the mock up line in the 3 pieces and then come back and attempt to make the line in one piece. So out comes the trusty metal coat hangers and I made my first pattern. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...af7b423-me.jpg Then the next http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...f5db7b8-me.jpg and finally I made the complete pattern. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...07f9153-me.jpg Here goes nothing ! http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...cacd916-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...a815fb2-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...44690e1-me.jpg Hard to believe my first attempt went so well. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...615a2ec-me.jpg The final bends on the drivers side went well however I was way off on the passenger side. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...3953e19-me.jpg Opps - oh well I will give it another shot in a couple days. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...ee1710e-me.jpg |
2nd Attempt at the brake lines (( 11-15-20 ))
No one ever called me a quitter.
I am going to skip most everything I did to get to this point. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...49a2243-me.jpg Love this tool from Eastwood. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...44a3ea7-me.jpg Looks like I will be doing it again as I miss-calculated where I needed to bend the lines so I straightened it and bent again so I could get closer on the next attempt. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...67f2f8d-me.jpg Thankfully brake lines are cheap. |
Don't ever call me a quitter (( 11-20-20 ))
Since I am still not happy with the brake line it's off to Eastwood for a couple more tools.
http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...99ad451-me.png http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...21a77c9-me.png Here we go again. As you can see I was practicing the bends that each tool was able to do and making reference marks on each piece so I would have a much better chance of bending the lines exactly where & how I want them to turn out. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...09c0b53-me.jpg More practice bends http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...77c5563-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...ca73c65-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...de6cd5b-me.jpg You can see the refence marks on the line. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...062802a-me.jpg I used the string to determine exactly how much brake line I will need to make the desired piece. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...6662a75-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...6661fb8-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...7381341-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...470272f-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...0456e99-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...53af238-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...d6d3dbf-me.jpg Back to the Autoparts store. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...a190087-me.jpg |
Good job Marty!
Professional tools make all the difference in the end product. Andrew |
I am amazed at the work and quality you get done.
Few understand how much work it is to get this stuff done right. Humbled by your quality and drive.

Brake Lines Brake Lines Brake Lines (( 11-21-20 ))
Picking up where I left off I need to connect both front calipers to the master and my goal was to keep is simple and fairly
easy build. I plan to install a Knotchead line clamp under it to support it. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...d09f1c4-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...e777d45-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...af5e9c7-me.jpg Time to make the final line. Since I made reference marks on the practice line I used those to make the new line all in one piece and it turned out exactly how I wanted it. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...df0b308-me.jpg Yep, I kept practicing with the scrap pieces to help me learn where to line up the tools so I can get the desired bends. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...e4b2047-me.jpg So I was feeling a little bit ambitious and I gave it another crack on the crossover line on the subframe. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...54c9daa-me.jpg I needed an extra hand so I put the brake line bender in my Grandfathers Vice and wow was this a total game changer it was like having Mike in the garage helping me. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...80e7394-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...179c939-me.jpg I just realized the sweatshirt that I am wearing in this picture was the last gift I received from my Grandmother before she died in 1989. It had moved with me many times over the years and I never wore it. A few years back I pulled it out and decided I would finally where it. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...f86dbaf-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...b5fd26e-me.jpg Using the reference marks I made allowed me to duplicate the final line all in one piece. I also traced out the line with sting so I new exactly how much line was necessary. It would have sucked if I had started with a 60" line as this line turned out to be 62" in length. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...da81bf1-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...2f9d0d4-me.jpg The final flare and yes the fitting is on !!! http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...5472f4e-me.jpg http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...1bc1f5b-me.jpg The tape makes the line not look centered but it is actually almost perfect. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...452887e-me.jpg |
