The judging of the cars was done inside the building this year because of the rain. I was amazed at he street rods this year. George Poteet's truck that Troy built was not in the top 5 so its not about your name or who built it its about what they like. I was happy just to be in the top 5. And once again the cars just get better and better. Congrats to Roger the scar was awsome and Jerrys street rod was amazing!

This is the problem with Goodguys and the way they pick things, every year we have gone the top cars are not always picked. Goodguys is more of the buddy system so if you are buddies with them they will find a place for your car to be in the top 5 and get you right up front at every show you do. How about we get back to the good o days when the guy who builds the best car wins. The Detroit Auto Rama is the same way now not even worth taking a car to the show if you went this year you know what I am talking about. Half the cars there should not have been contenders.

There has been post after post here about the bad gaps in the DSE car how did they make the top 5 again? and again? I think they should pic 10 top builders and let them pick with out talking to one another. The one with the most votes wins.

I agree!! Great points!!! Never been to Columbus,may never go who knows. All these cars are great no question. But how is a car like Afterburner in the same class as Mannings Camaro!! I think DSE is tops at what they do and the Manning Camaro is stunning .. But it's not even close to Afterburner as far as custom fabrication goes. So I ask again whats the criteria???

Thanks for noticing, Ben. That's my client, Bob Bertelsen's insane home built Firebird. The only thing Bob didn't do was build the MAST motor and the Bowler trans and stitch the interior. Otherwise, all built at home in under 18 months! Pontiac guys might have noticed the vents look just a little different and it's because I designed them to be smaller and more subtle and reveal actual vents and Bob fabbed them out of sheetmetal per the design along with the hood extractors in fiberglass, metal spoiler, front valance, taillights, license plate relocation, bumper mods and a bunch of other subtle stuff. He missed the Top 5 but got a shoot for PHR on Saturday night so that was a nice silver lining to his weekend.

It's been stated already - who you are and who you know! :D Bringing a killer car seals the deal.

I'm just kidding. :P There may be some truth in that, but leaving that statement like it is takes away from the accomplishments of the builders. If you can't build a half-decent car, I doubt your connections will get you a pick, let alone a trophy. We're really debating the fine details here. Almost all those cars are works of art, it's just a matter of what level of art should be eligible to compete for the big prize.

As for the issue of building for trophies, I see it as the same as racing. It's just another form of competition. If the rules are fair, it takes a serious athlete to even be in contention. I just love competition whether it's on a track or a stage.

Didn't that little burgundy roadster pickup win SROY a few years back? It was also in the Great-8, but I think Foose was there that year. (Notice I didn't say Foose won that year ;) )

IMO, Mannings car is awesome, as were alot of other cars there. I believe the person talking about the gaps on Mannings car was referring to a different car by mistake.

no mistake was made. both of the gray 69's had gap issues. maybe they didn't when you saw it and the car has settled some and the gaps changed.

Are you talking about the slightly wider gap at the top of the door/front fender? It's more evident in one of the other posters' pics here, but you can see it a little in mine. I don't have many pics of this car, so I don't have a better angle or any of the other side.
