Chris is a friggin' genious. Love the fuel distribution set up!!

Bucketlist2012 12-28-2011 06:35 PM

As you said in the beginning....The goal is to beat the crap out of it....

I agree, and plan to also....

Cris@JCG 12-28-2011 09:00 PM

Gaetano- I don't know about genious.. :D Let's just say that each time we design & machine we try to improve it .. Each build teaches me something new.. I just luv what we can do in the shop.. My crew is what makes my vision a reality!

Nah.......your a friggin' geniuous  . You see an issue, design and create a part and create a better solution. Maybe innovater is a better word,or maybe a pioneer that revelutionizes and creates the parts to make install easier and make more sense.

Either way, I'm sticking with geniuous.

Cris@JCG 12-28-2011 09:43 PM

Thank you for the props Gaetano! But sometimes I do get into trouble..

So, the brakes on the blue 68 are not working the way they should.. Booster is bad.. pedal ratio is off.. the M/C bore size is needs to be smaller.. when we re-worked the firewall.. the booster was a direct bolt on to the firewall & we could not mount the M/C back on the firewall..

Solution: Machine a adapter plate to union both parts! I had to give up the nice pcs we did for the M/C with our reservoirs.. learned alot from this problem..

Ron is gonna be bugging me to use this new plate we just designed for the Wilwood tripple M/C with pedal assembly.. :D

Oh don't worry - you can have the first one made.... for the prototyping costs. :D

SWEET....

These plates were designed for 3 custom firewalls being built from scratch in the next few weeks .. Yours was kept in budget & what the car allowed us to do within the stock firewall..

I got to be careful on how much I pick on you.. I don't want any videos like the one you did for Greg & Rodger..

Are you sure it should be "Payback" ? "Knockback" sounds better for you! :D

It's tough when you get to the curve first.:unibrow: Wilwood has a redesigned retainer and now a floating caliper kit for the masses. I may have a little to do with that evolution along with the amount of new projects with floating axles.

Thanks Gandalf for reminding me about your visit.. I will have to fish the car out of the corner in the shop & take out all the storage boxes out of it..

Ron has been patient on us working on his car.. We got it on the schedule for later this week..

Hey Lurker. I got all excited when I thought the GNRS pics were yours. If you ever get out here, let me know! Anyway, Cris is finishing up the firewall and we should have some pics any day now.

Will do Ron. I drew the line at Arizona, but one of my son's an engineer for Toyota out there now, so I'm running out of excuses.

Dont believe everything you read Ron....I'm still calling it naive optimism at this point  . Would be nice to pull this into the GM proving grounds on the first day, but its gonna be a lot of knuckle busting nights, a few extra bodies with capable hands and probably an adult beverage or 30 to do it

Ron- Finished the firewall, trans tunnel, & underdash fabrication yesterday.. We are now in the body shop.. Get some pics posted later this week..

Ron in SoCal 02-05-2012 10:07 AM

A little Superbowl Sunday update - I finally picked up some pics from the motor shop and thought I'd throw up some details of my build...

For the most part this motor is not built 7800 rpm top end, but more for fast revving in-n-out of corners torque. My goal was to build a bullet proof (no such thing!) LS7, or at least take out some of the known weaknesses. I started w a flea-bay motor some knucklehead built wrong. I bought it knowing I would tear it down and rebuild it as strong as possible for the planned abuse. Last thing I wanted was a rod grenading the side of the block or needle bearings falling through the rotating assy under power. I wanted it to breathe good, accelerate quick and rev to 7k on the straights. I didn’t sleeve it, although I did speak to RED Steve and one day I’ll beef up the block a little (meaning the motor will be torn down at some point, planned or not).

According to Ovrkill, here’s my ‘puny’ motor (haha, Brent!). All the work was done at QMP Racing in Chatsworth, CA. I’ve known Brad and Mikey for a loooong time and consider them friends. These guys really know their stuff and everything is done in house. On any given week you’ll see small blocks, big blocks, turbo/blower builds, a Lambo rebuild or one of those Sonny-whats-his-names 800 cu alum motors! That thing is huge BTW…

I started w a stock GM LS7 crate motor. Block was CNC blueprinted, diamond honed, decked, align honed, Cam tunnel bored. We balanced the factory forged crank and added Crower billet steel connecting rods, ROSS custom pistons and pins, and a set of Total Seal custom rings. ARP main bearing studs hold it all together. I’ve got a 13 lb Fidanza alum flywheel and a McLeod RST clamp I’ll throw on when the time comes.

Heads were fully prepped w CNC port to breathe 390 cfm @ .0600. Milled and given QMP's competition valve job. We kept the Titanium valves and added Manley Titanium spring cups , retainers, pushrods and polished valve springs. CHE bushed rockers help delete those pesky needle bearings. We also used some of those new Comp short throw lifters (tray type) to see if they truly help the motor build revs faster and control any valve float.

Tieing the two together is a Comp bump stick. 235/244, 630 lift w a 113+2 LSA. Brad cam doctored it as he always does and this is the formula for my intended use.

For oiling I’m using an LS9 pump, Avaid pan baffle, Peterson baffled tank and breather. These cars don’t quite pull Gs like race prepped Vetts so I think I should be good.

Up top I’ve got a Mamo ported factory intake, Fast rails and a BER ported TB. We threw a set of Fast flow matched injectors pumping 65 psi just in case I decide to add some cubes or something later on down the road.

Here's some some pics...

Thx E! I'm told these motors don't need big cams. We'll see. I'll chassis dyno it once the money pit hits the road...

Hey Bro - I used a factory TB, ported by a guy on Corvette forums. He does a lot of these and it looks real good. After I sent it out I saw a company that does a CNC spiral port. I'd be interested to see if that is a better approach?

I will take that motor if you really dont want it,just kidding sounds like a killer to me.
