With the pointy nose on this car, I always thought it looked like the Mach 5 from Speed Racer not the Batmobile.

Those batwings look redonkulous  |
Enjoying this build, I put together a 69 javelin using many of the modifications done in the trans am days.
Build here http://www.bangshift.com/forum/forum...project/page46 Btw, love the nose update! I've been doing some carbon fiber fabrication and I appreciate the effort just to make the plug! I'd like to do a more radical build of another javelin at some point, interesting to see how you are updating this monster. Cheers Mike:thumbsup: |
Such a rad car. Puts a smile on my face every time I see it!

What is strongest, and most expensive is Kevlar. So what I am doing is multiple layers of glass, sandwiching Kevlar at in critical areas where the bolts will go through etc.. The most reasonable for the money, but I guess we'll see. |

Sorry Ron, couldn't help it :D Forgot the Batman symbol on the door though LOL. Can't wait to see the nose. |
A good start to the changes you want on the rear quarters might be a 68 Camaro panel?http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/...s71807d4b.jpeg
|
Funny how all our minds work the same, with the original design, the 67 Camaro quarter was my first thought. I'm pretty sure Torque had the same idea and used it to aid in his photoshop morphing. I immediately saw it, and apparently you did too.
Unfortunately the new design won't allow anything that easy, the bulges I'm now looking for this are more like a 69 Chevelle quarter. In the end I will probably use the eyebrows I cut off a 71 Javelin, and fabricate the rest. The cool part is, I'm having molds made of the fenders, nose and quarters, so I could mass produce these cars. |
Ron, that would be awesome if you were able to mass produce the parts and recoup some money from the build. Good luck with the molds. I think the car is turning out nice.
|
It makes me laugh that I even typed that. Mass produced, people didn't flock to these cars when they were new, I truly don't think they will run to them now.
The molds just came about because the parts are so hard to come by, if I wad the car up, I will pay through the nose for panels that I will have to cut up. And I got the car for free, figured the cost of the molds just covered what the car would have cost initially. I do have a parts car that may become Xperimental 2.0. |

Below you can see how much that quarter is flared out comparing it to Carl's Camaro. ’73 AMX quarter http://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3e59d965.jpg Carl’s Camaro quarter http://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2986f788.jpg |
Ron,
Where fore Art Thou? Working on the Quarters??? |
Been working on my Mustang getting it ready for Motorstate. Did pick up the nose mold, need to clean it up, and make the fins for the area that bolts it to the fender. The fiberglass guy said it took a full week to get the mold off of my plug, pretty much destroyed the plug doing so.
The fiberglass guy is the only guy I know busier then me, he is running around like a one armed paper hanger. So I decided to make the rails on the nose mold myself, to speed up the process. The parts will come fast out of the mold he promises, so I'll get the mold back Monday or Tuesday. http://57hemicuda.smugmug.com/Cars/A...DSC01146-L.jpg http://57hemicuda.smugmug.com/Cars/A...DSC01148-L.jpg |
Ron - how did the mold get screwed up?
|
The mold didn't get screwed up. The plug stuck to the mold to the point that it took 1 1/2 weeks to get it to eject. When the mold was removed some of the plug was stuck to it.
The fiberglass guy is so swamped, and I want the part so bad, that I picked it up cleaned it, and made the fins for the attachment flange. Made the fins out of aluminum, and powder coated them orange. http://57hemicuda.smugmug.com/Cars/A...DSC01149-L.jpg |
Got both done and fitted, hopefully I'll get it back tomorrow.

AMC AMX: The First True Sports Car of the 1960s?
|
Glass nose finally made, detail on this part is exceptional for a fiberglass part. I'm not going to lie I'm pretty proud of this thing, can't wait to get the fenders back.

It looks sweet ! Nice job!!

Is it installed yet? http://d26ya5yqg8yyvs.cloudfront.net/DirtDOG.gif

Well, I'm gearing up for Drag Week, so I don't see alot getting done here anytime soon. Here is the progression from plug to mold to part. Fiberglass guy seemed pretty happy with how part turned out, he said this was one of the most complex detailed plugs he ever worked with. I told him 4 gallons of Bondo turned me into Michelangelo. I was sculpting, and sanding my a$$ off, my finger prints took 3 weeks to show back up.

Ron,
Great looking part!! Getting glass that nice is no easy job. Have you considered building a Vette?? :buttkick: R/ Jeff |

The nose piece came out real nice, I would love to have that for my Javelin but it probably wouldn't line up with my stock fenders. Keep up the good work.:gitrdun:

Nice work on the nose job Ron!! If you day job doesn't work out you could always go into making plugs for glass
How about some Vett parts?? Jeff and Aaron would buy them from you!! |
Are you running drag week?? If so, what car??
I'll be there for the Tulsa events, not sure if I'll make any of the other stops. |
Yeah, my buddy Frank and I are taking his twin turbo, LS powered 63 Chevy II. I'm sure we will be the only Pro Touring type car on 18's running mid 8's, should be a hoot. One more thing off the bucket list.LOL
|
I'll be looking for it.

Hey Ron that's is some bad a$$ work right there and tremendous work ethics. |

And loving the build! Updates? I have been thinking just the opposite of what your doing with the front buldge fenders, removing them on a 72. I am amazed at how well it works on your car, looks great! Probably because it sits so low. Cool car! subscribed. |
