Not this year. I will be putting away the Hoosiers for a 200 + tread wear tire in the next week for the rest of the year. They will not be a very good CP tire. I am going to concentrate on getting the car dialed in on them. Next year is a different story. I will be gearing up for Nationals in 2012. Brian |
I'm really looking forward to seeing this car next week.

Now, you do realize of course that all the work you do to set the car up on 200+ treadwear tires will have to be redone when you go back to slicks for nationals? |
I have been tuning the Camaro and it is getting closer and closer to getting dialed in. The car was at K&N's headquarters having a custom air intake made for it. I will post some more photos later. Here is a photo from K&N while it was on the dyno.

Nice shot of the car. Looks like the right front tire is about to achieve liftoff!:unibrow:
Brian, would you be willing to share the build specs of your engine? Very nice numbers (611hp, 538tq) |

Here is the information on the engine. Mast Motorsports built it. It is the 416 SS http://www.mastmotorsports.com/2010/index.php# Brian |
I picked up the Camaro from K&N yesterday. They did a great job building a custom intake for my car. They got 16+ hp and 16+ ft lbs more than my previous setup.

That intake looks nice and sounds like it is functional to boot. This turned out to be my favorite second gen Camaro. Gives me something to shoot for with my Firebird.
|
Thanks for the info on the engine.
Now, could you post some pics of that exhaust setup. I noticed that it seems to be poking out of the bottom of the rear quarter in front of the driver's rear tire. Pretty slick setup. |

Brian. Do you mind if I ask how much caster you are running?

It is now official so I can let the cat out of the bag. I am the driver and my Camaro the car for Wilwood Disc Brakes entry for this years Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitional. I am looking forward to working with Wilwood in the next few months on getting the Camaro ready for this years very competitive event.

Congrats Brian! I'm sure you'll give 'em a good run for their banner...
|
My pick for best build of the year! Im running out of drool. This will be the best Optima ever! You gonna run the carbons?

Well deserved Brian. Hope I can make it this year to see it run.

Makes my junk look simplistic.. lol
Crazy build, can't wait to shoot it for our magazine.. Would be fun to have a shootout where we had the same driver.. sorta hard to compete with 335 freaking front tires though.. Very badass Brian.. how's the sorting going? |
Congrats Brian. That is awesome! Well deserved.
|
Brian, I finally went through the entire thread. A truly awesome car.
I know I won't be going as far as you did, but I really love the look, especially the rear quarter flares for fat tires. I figure with a 1-1.5" wider quarter, I can fit 315/35R17 tires with no problem on a 17x11 wheel with 5.5" backspacing. Is that all factory metal that was just pounded out to form the flare? |

I am also looking forward to having my car in your magazine. This weekend will be a big deal as it will be the first autocross on real "street" tires. The rears are larger that what you have already seen. The fronts are taller but just a bit narrower. I will post photos in a few days. They go on the car for the first time tomorrow night. Custom DPE wheels with Michelin Pilot Super Sports. |
Congrat's,Brian.Now go have a good time,go fast & be safe. Scott M.

I'm trying to get a junk one now to use for fitment. I have a junk 17x9 wheel with 4.5" BS. That should be close enough so I can get exactly what I need. But I must say that I still do like the slight flaring of the wheel well. Don't know that I need to go to the extreme that Brian did. As for the front, I'd like to put a 255-275 up there. I'd ditch the inner fender wells, but I'm not sure if they'd fit without some mods to the fender. I have been looking at cars as I've been driving around and have seen a number of them that actually have pretty good sized flares from the factory. In particular, a 2000-2005 Grand Am's front fender. I'm thinking perhaps I could just "cut and paste" the flare part onto my stock fenders/quarters. But I'm not sure if that would be easier or harder than just massaging the factory steel out. I'm going to pick one up off Craigslist (about $25) and see what I can do and how it would look. |

My new DPE Wheels are built and installed and I am ready to get the car ready for the Optima Challenge. We are going to have some center caps machined in the next few weeks. I wanted to get the most tire possible under the car. 20 x 13 in the rear with a 345-30-20 and 19 x 11.5 fronts with a 305-30-19. The 305 front is wider than my 315 NItto NT05.

New wheels look great Brian...that polished black lip looks awesome. Every time I look at your Camaro, I just sit in awe.
|
I'm really liking this car. One of my guys in the shop that moonlights at Maiers place every once in a while told me about it. Cant wait to see it in person!
