Sorry Tracey! This is the view from my room.

We had Hairpin view -- walked into the room - it smelled like SMOKE -- and was noisy -- so opted for the sea view side... I'll watch the race from the pool area on the roof....

There's been a steady stream of exotic stuff moving through this turn... Some of the stuff I don't even know what it is... but it's exotic!

The big blue boat looks like the one that was in the bay area last year owned by the #2 guy a Mircosoft.

Greg, I've been to that exact Hotel your at. I'm very envious right now. F1 is one my favorite sports. Please post some pics of the exotics parked in front of the Casino at night. That should make everyone on this site drool a little

Nope ---That would be "Octopus" -- owned by Paul Allen that you're referencing. Octopus is 414' and the yacht in this picture is only around 300'. I'm using the M/V Laurel just outside this picture to judge against. The Laurel is 240' and was built up in my neck of the woods by Delta Marine.

I'll start a new thread --- and stop jacking this one.

Yeah -- tons of killer cars... Bentleys are a dime a dozen - mat finished - big wheels etc.

jeff71 05-23-2012 08:00 PM

Yea Paul Allen. His boat is ridiculously big I think he's from your neck of the woods.

Well I'm pretty excited that this project is finally back under way. Greg Heinrich who owns the 70 Chevelle and 55 Chevy, referred us to a close friend of his that was looking to have a custom car built, but could never get anything that fit him and was comfortable to drive. Cliff is 6"8" tall and wanted a car that would fit him well unlike most everything you can purchase new. Greg told his car building buddy was also a Giant and could get that handled. The discussion was that 1962 Bubbletop is one of the few cars that has a tall roof line and looks awesome in a mostly stock form. So all we had to do was reverse everything from the Short guy who owned it before to the Super tall that owns it now.

http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...2015%20003.jpg

The Plan is to have the Ironworks Impala Chassis under the car with a Twin Turbo LS engine with a paddle shifted 4L80E trans. We plan to have this car completed for early 2016. Its time to be hammer down on this project.

DBasher 03-23-2015 10:10 AM

AWESOME! Still going with the rendering and the billet goodies?

Looking forward to this one coming together!

Pretty much the same exterior. A little different color, but essentially the same car with a bit more interior space and a few more billet parts.

Sweet! I thought Greg and you guys had developed a really great build plan. I was a little sad to see it get shelved. I'm really happy to see it back on.

Thanks but we are doing the Holley Dominator system to have the ECU and TCU in one unit. We are leaning toward more of a Sequential trans shifter from a CTS-V.

Greatest decision of my life was not building this car... I still don't like it. Too F'n big.

I knew by the look on your face after we had done all the work with the electric pedals and long travel Mercedes seats to get you to fit in the car, that when you could not reach across the open the other door, it was over. It just took you 2 weeks after that to tell me, you were done.

It is ironic that the deal breaker for you was the selling point for this guy. I just take the seats and slide them the other way and adjust the brake and gas pedal brackets the other way. And Whammo a guy bigger then me feels normal in the car.

Same thing happened to me with the 94-96 Impala SS. I love the looks of those cars. Took many years before I got the chance to drive one. When I finally got the chance, I was so let down because the car is too big. Even an 6 foot tall, I'm too narrow to fit the car correctly as a driver. I can't even put my elbows on both arm rests at the same time comfortably. I fit in an F250 Super Duty more comfortably than I do the Impala SS. I still like the looks but I'll never own one. No sense in owning something you're uncomfortable in.

Gotta admit though, those were some sweet cars for that time frame. Honestly, I still want one in my collection. A buddy of mine has one that he bought brand, spankin new in 1995. He's upgraded it with an LS3 and a 6-speed automatic, big brakes, 3-piece 20" wheels and a host of other goodies. It is one bad car.

ironworks 03-25-2015 07:21 AM

Here is a sneak peak of the Twin Turbo engine getting the basic layout for the exhaust plumbing. We are working with Kurt Urban Performance and Eric Turner for a bitchin twin throttle body water to air intercooled cross ram for the engine. The stock plastic manifold has to go.

http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...2015%20012.jpg

We are starting the basic interior layout for the dash and front seats. We are going to use the Dakota Digital VHX cluster and just machine our own housing for the cluster to get the desired exterior look with their internal guts.

Marcus, I hear ya! Bill Goldberg used to be a neighbor of mine, and he had one at the time that would absolutely move! That car was quick.
Of course he's a big dude, and he fit the car pretty well, so I see what Trey is talking about also.

They are sweet cars...we blew up or old streetfighter racing an ls1/t56/vortech blown 95 Impala SS in Huntsville.

Worst part, was we drove the car there, instead of towing it...waited 6 hours for the truck/trailer:waveflag:

ironworks 05-20-2015 04:21 PM

We have had quite a bit or progress on this project lately.

The headers and exhaust are getting built.

http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...2015%20005.jpg
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...2015%20008.jpg

The new billet intake crossram has part files at the machine shop.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...20-%20MAIN.jpg

The cardboard template was had colored in house with every highlight on the premises to show the different parts and contrast.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...2015%20001.jpg

The front and rear ride height are being fully defined to the new owners liking.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...er-tub-01l.jpg
We are setting up the rear axle with for the full floater housing ends to allow the brake calipers to clear the chassis main rails at this low of a ride height. And who has 21" mock up wheels? I wish I did.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...2015%20009.jpg

Bob Braga was in So Cal and stopped by to take some pictures for some parts he is working on for this project. It will be cool.
