It's getting to be that time of year in the valley

Will it still be like that -- or harvest time -- in the middle of October? |
Call me weird, but ..... as a Fisheries Biologist Entomology is a big deal and I've been playing with the macro on my camera and came up with these photos.

All those need is a hook and some leader to produce dinner. :D

Last night was the Harvest moon (full moon in Sept). Was amazing this morning. They have crews working all night picking. A lot of the cab and zin grapes won't be ready to pick for a few weeks. All depends on the weather. If harvest is wrapping up then crush will be in full swing which means many crush parties at the wineries. Great time of year here in the valley. You coming to town? |

Will be in Willows at Thunderhill October 11/14 -- so will be close. If Gwen was with me I'd shoot over for a drive thru the valley. But since I don't drink and she'll be in Prague or somewhere like that.. I probably won't. I'll have the "rig". But we'll leave it open cause it might be worth the trip "just because". |
I found a really sweet shot of Sun Valley (ranked #4 for skiing ahead of Vail etc!!!) and someone needs to tell me how to shoot a shot like this -- the lighting is amazing! They got awesome reflections off the Big Wood River... and that takes patience!

But, even knowing that, that's going to be a tough shot, just at the right time of day and year to get those colors. |
That's beautiful.

Hopefully a real pro chimes in.........
I'm guessing it's a tripod and second plus exposure time. Not sure what the aperture setting would be, f8 or higher? When all else fails, shoot it underexposed and enhance it with software. :D |
Just beautiful though, i could sit and look at that for a while....i almost can see the jolly green giant come up out of nowhere lol

I shoot pics at my sons soccer games each Saturday. Snagged this one just after a goal was made by my sons cousin. Kids caught in the act of celebrating is just priceless!

My Nova
Took my Nova to Sonoma Raceway for the Wednesday Night Drags. The cars best time was 10.45 @ 127. Not bad for a SBC!

Nice! Great picture too!! Was there a couple weeks ago for the first time to see the WTCC & Porsche GT3 series race. Was pretty neat.
|
Dinking in the garage tonight, had an idea grabbed the camera and shot this with the lights out and no flash........used my Streamlight pencil inspection light and painted the car on a 6 second ISO 200 exposure.

That's an awesome pic Sieg.
Greg come on over. Harvest is in full swing and will be for a while. Maybe these will get you motivated. It rained on Saturday which made for a super clear blue sky Sunday. The blue was incredible. http://i855.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps526b8d4b.jpg http://i855.photobucket.com/albums/a...psdd8ed7fd.jpg http://i855.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps2a4b75d5.jpg http://i855.photobucket.com/albums/a...pse01105b7.jpg |
I can smell it from here Jeff!!
Nice pics! I should tell you a funny story... Gwen and I were at Thunderhill... and I said - hey, lets go over to the wine country. Done. I ask my buddies how to get there... "OH, just go down to hiway such and such (20) and head west til you see the lake". Easy. Stop at Granella's etc... and off we go... I drive and see a nice lake and then I drive and drive -- thru all these little tiny towns -- along the edge of a beautiful lake -- and 5 or more hours later end up with a sign I finally recognize -- Santa Rosa or Petaluma or something. Turns out we'd missed the part about TURN WHEN YOU SEE THE LAKE and pretty much circumnavigated Clear Lake - all the way on 20 to 29 and then back down. We didn't care - but I was hauling the trailer and dude! Some of those turns are getting pretty narrow!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA |
That is funny. The little details make all the difference. Yeah some of those windy roads are tight but the scenery is great.
If you end up making it over let me know and we'll get some folks together for some good eats. Several great new restaurants in town. |

One thing I like about going to volleyball games is the proximity to the action.
