Foundation One

2 Attachment(s)
I've mentioned Foundation One here ---- this is an expensive - not covered by insurance - Genomic Sequencing testing biz.....

https://www.foundationmedicine.com/g...foundation-one

$6,500 or so will get you a comprehensive result for which drugs will, or have, had good results with chemotherapy..... or if there are clinical trials specific to your type of cells.... or any other useful information that might help guide the docs (mostly yourself) to some form of treatment(s).

I had hoped mine would come back with a specific "mutation" that KEYTRUDA treats..... but no such luck. At least I know.

This is a 62 page 'report' -- but the box on the front page is all that is important initially...... and sadly mine sucks.

FIRST identifies mutations and markers.......

Attachment 66026

Sorry it's hard to read the columns ---- but basically it matches these mutations or markers with any KNOWN chemo treatment that works on it -- or clinical trials - Targeted therapy, etc. There are many TYPES of cancer -- Lung - Liver - Bone - but what's IMPORTANT is what cellular makeup is the cancer ---- because then you can really drill down on finding something known to be effective on THOSE CELLS !!

Hi Greg, Again I haven't been on this site in a while...but something told me I should log on.

I didn't expect to see these posts, but again I know that you are a fighter and will not give up. Cancer SO sucks...

It's good to hear that your most recent scans show no additional growth. Mayo is a great hospital with great docs, but sometimes they need to open their eyes to reality and alternate therapies. Like you, we've experienced these issues at Mayo as well.

Anyways, please let us know then next time you are out here. We'd love to meet up for a few minutes and say hi. BTW, Lynn and Holly say hi-and we all want you to take care:grouphug:

Hey buddy! Good to hear from you!

I'm so happy to hear Holly is doing great!

We'll be back down in September UNLESS I require some "intervention" or my liver stents need attention. I'm hoping I need neither.

The one thing people forget - and I don't expect anyone to remember my ailments - but the LIVER thing was going to kill me..... then the stent thing and it's issues was going to do me at some point (and not 10 years from now)..... and now this newest news. NONE OF IT has gotten me yet!! So F'it.

See ya soon Bruce! XOXO

PS --- I know it's a long ways from you --- but ADRIENNE is the Executive Chef at "The Salty Sow" ---- Tatum and Cactus area...... if you're over that way -- say hello!

Cancer likes to mutate and is an EXTREMELY TRICKY little F ***er......

Very true. But I'd say any victory against cancer is a victory worth celebrating.

Sorry to hear about the genomic sequencing results, but it's still good news that your spots haven't progressed.

xplantdad 06-26-2018 07:54 PM

I remember you telling us all about the liver issues, the stent issues and how they wouldn't be able to take it out, etc. Shows what they know :)

Our next door neighbor with the leukemia also used the oil that you sent him info on...He's doing okay, too! He's still not strong enough to do yard work, but that's why I live next door to him .

Greg, as far ass you coming out here....it sounds good! We will see you in September, then! :hello:

In baseball -- it would be "little ball" -- with cancer -- you take any little victory you can get.

I'm in no pain - I look "fine" (debatable) - I'm eating "okay" - and my spots didn't grow (this time) -- I'll take that as all good stuff!

I caught a quick blurb on the news last night, something about the FDA finally approving a form of CBD oil to be used for seizure medication. I missed most of the story though, has anyone in here heard of this or have any more information on it?

Also, my wife met someone at a convention recently that said there are provisions in the new Farm Bill that allow the production of CBD Oil in the US finally...but I'm not sure if it has passed yet or if the provision made it to the final version.

All of the above is good news to me, it tells me this movement is gaining traction...

I logged in for the first time in years, literally just to see what Greg is up to, and I find this.

I'm sorry I haven't been in touch more sir. I even moved just a few hours away from you (I'm in Cache valley Utah now) and never called.

If the stars align, I need to come up there and say hello. Maybe spread some freedom seeds at the range. :bigun2:

GregWeld 07-25-2018 07:13 PM

Been about another month now..... and in my current world.... that's a long time.

People continue to ask "how am I".... and frankly -- I really just don't know. Some days are great some days suck.... some start off crappy and get better and some are the opposite. This morning when I got up at 5:30AM to let Stella and Rosie out.... I said to Gwen "I feel 100% today"..... by 10AM I said "I might have jumped the gun".

To be perfectly honest -- I have a drive out to Cali to the track with the new car... and instead of looking forward to it - I'm kinda starting to ask myself "why". But then.... I'll get out there and get jacked up - and then I'll fall apart. My point - when you have this crap -- and I'm pretty sure it's still there -- you just don't know hour by hour how you're going to feel.

Some times I wonder if I'm not just "depressed" after battling this crap for 2 years now. And other times I think -- ARE YOU KIDDING! I'VE BEEN WINNING FOR 2 YEARS so WTF.

Taking a 3/10th's dose of CBD only - every night (early evening) - and I get up every day and put my shoes on. My plan is to continue to do so.... until I can't.

I saw you putting some shots down range on YouTube! Pretty impressive!

I'm just starting to dip my toe into the shooting world. I'm definitely not ready to reach out to 1400+ yards like you, but if the zombies come, I'll hold my own lol

I just got off the phone with dad and he sends his best. If you make your way through my neck of the woods, let me know and I'll take some time off I've got some great stories to tell you now, having worked in a shop for the last 2 years. Maybe tell the tale of how a Miata broke my ankle at the race track (it knew karate) :D

Depression is a greater monster than the C. Sometimes there is absolutely no reason for it and it comes anyway, it is horrible to have that cloud and know in the back of your mind that you don't truly feel that way. Confusing and energy draining. No amount of friends or conversations can fix it, but one thing that works a fair amount of the time is distraction... "pushing through it".

Your story, and your continued strength is giving hope to a lot more folks than you can imagine GW.

Had a follow up call with the CannaNurse I use (she's super helpful and knowledgeable!) -- I use "KAREN" from CannaKids. You go to their website and you can schedule a call -- half hour is about $85 and that's all the time I need.

So I've been doing 3/10ths CBD only - take it around 5:30 before dinner -- that way I feel better when I wake up (early riser).... and I've been doing this since doing the BIG DOLLUP DEAL right after this last diagnosis.....

She wants me to ADD BACK the THC to a 1:1 basis --- until I get a "clear" scan result. Then just the CBD would be fine....

So after this next big car event --- The Missile at Thunderhill -- I'll start to work that back in to the mix. It's all just a big guessing game -- but I'm still walking and shifting gears --- and that's FAR ahead of where the pros had me by this time! So guess I'll just continue to carry on. :trophy-1302:

Vegas69 07-26-2018 06:45 PM

I hate to see you going through this man.:bang: It's got to be extremely tough to stay positive. I still take the CBD once in a while to cool my jets and it doesn't take much to really relax me. With the dose you take, it's got to make you very tired all the time. That's likely part of the reason it works.

I'd be watching positive videos and reading positive books. Reflecting on old photos and experiences. Talking to those you love most or can make you laugh. Find ways to be productive. Writing down something you're grateful for first thing is a good way to start the day. Towards the end of 2017 I spent 65 days in a row doing that. Many days I had to fight through a piss poor attitude to get it done, but it nearly always changed my attitude for the better. Now I can go back and read those notes and it helps do the same thing. They've proven optimism helps your immune system.

As crazy as it seems --- yes! It's what? 5 years now??

For those that don't know or understand the conversation -- 5 years ago when Dave (BMF) and Rob (FETornio - SIC for fun) did a little back east road trip (posted around here somewhere) --- they started a text train - that evolved into 8 of us texting 24/7/365 ever since.

For the unwashed - lol - there are days when you wake up and there are 300+ texts waiting for you. Depends on what night - how late - and how much beer has been consumed or - what EVENT has just taken place.

I'm a big problem on the train (who'd a thunk it!) - I type fast and have lots to say..... LOL

Cancer update

Quick update on my cancer situation --- Mayo clinic said that I basically have almost no growth (1 cm) on the spots on my lymph nodes -- and just a hair more than that on the spots on my lungs.... So pretty good news. Given my unorthodox treatment.... I'll take that news!

I'm only doing CBD oil at night (about 200mg) for the last few months. I might add some THC now just to see if we can shrink the spots....

I'm really just trying to keep the info flowing about my rather unorthodox treatment so people can refer to this thread should they ever (sadly) need it. Since I am not under a doctors care for the cancer -- and I don't even take an aspirin.... I'm not on a single pill for ANYTHING.... I have to believe this THC/CBD stuff is doing "some good".... While I know I'll lose the battle at some point - stretching that point out as long as I can is the goal. Not spending time in a hospital and being sick the entire time with the chemo drugs is the other goal. I've been able to live a completely normal life doing this my way. I think it's gone rather swimmingly!! LOL

GregWeld 10-09-2018 02:24 PM

My ERCP procedure went quite well today -- they did need to do some housekeeping so it's a good thing I had it done. It's all a big guessing game as to how long I can go between these events. Obviously - since it's surgery where they knock you clear out (joked with the folks in the operating room about not giving me quite as much as Michael Jackson took)..... and asked to make sure they knew they weren't amputating anything..... you want to put these off as long as possible -- without going too long and having something real bad happen.

Being here in Scottsdale now - will allow them to monitor my blood work more frequently. That will give a good indication for how the liver is functioning.

All in all -- all's good!

xplantdad 10-10-2018 01:23 PM

Yeah -- this "check up" and ERCP went "okay"..... Was hoping the cancer was gone but it's not - so slowing the progression is better than nothing. Losing - just losing more slowly for now.

Good question Brycen — and I don’t have a medical answer for this. I’m doing “okay” and feeling “okay” - okay being relative to being 100% of which I certainly am not! My energy level most days is about 40%.... but this is a combination of things - a lot of which is just the ongoing effects of the CBD/THC I take.... this stuff kicks your butt....

I don’t have any medical treatment going — so I won’t have another CT scan until this month sometime... and that will tell me if the cancer has metastasized or grown. My “sense of well being” is telling me it’s not growing much - and that it has not metastasized....

When the effects of the “stuff” wear off (noon each day) then I feel good — and I go about doing whatever it is we have planned for the day.... to include spending the entire day running around the desert mountains in a RZR with Ed Capen.... LOL — I eat a lot of dust - and don’t drive it - I’m just a passenger.... but what I’m saying is — I can manage to do something like that for hours and hours.... so I’m doing okay in my book!

We had a busy holiday period with kids home — and contractors here at the new house in Scottsdale (Paradise Valley really).... and I managed to survive that!! LOL
