An automotive paint retailer can almost always put any color you need into a spray (rattle) can.... then get yourself a rattle can handle/trigger..... it makes a way more pleasant job out of it and you'll have way more control.

Personally --- I'd use an etching primer first -- then the color... ask your paint store for matching products.

waynieZ 07-31-2013 06:19 PM

Thanks guys!
Greg I already started with a color its spray bomb paint and I did use etching primer and cleared it too.

I need to thank my wife with my torn rotator cuff it would have been tuff to move it to my paint stand ( stack of tires ) Thanks Cat!
The only thing I need to remember next time I paint is that I'm not 21 anymore I NEED MORE LIGHTS !
Just a side note see the fan in the pictures my parents bought it when I was about 8 , I'm now 58. They don't build them like that anymore.

DaleTx 08-01-2013 04:46 PM

Mario; They started out the in the same boat if I remember. :disgusted:
Hi Chad; That is a Rustoleum paint its called flat soft iron. Sorry it took so long for me to see your question. I may use it in other places with a gloss clear it really pops with metallic under clear coat.

Ron in SoCal 08-02-2013 09:33 AM

Looks really slick Wayne! :hail:

MX145 08-12-2013 09:36 PM

Wayne. Is the soft iron paint what you used on the bell housing or transmission? If not on the transmission then what did you use?

waynieZ 08-13-2013 07:08 AM

Yes sir it is the soft iron with a matt finish clear.

sds machining 08-13-2013 08:28 AM

Glad to see your moving forward Wayne, Looks really nice

waynieZ 08-13-2013 10:21 AM

DFRESH 08-13-2013 08:12 PM

Love those colors---hard to believe it is spray bombed---it turned out fantastic. I will be headed to ACE for the same color in the future as well now---that is sweet!

D

waynieZ 08-14-2013 07:51 AM

Thanks Doug When the clear was wet it looked like it was a gloss and the metallic in the paint looks awesome.

kttrucks 08-14-2013 08:12 AM

:gitrdun: Wayne, this looks great!!! as you know the secret to sucess is in the prep, and yours looks outstanding. Well done!!

KT.

waynieZ 08-14-2013 09:58 AM

56pickup 08-14-2013 02:40 PM

Looking good Wayne! ;)

Al Moreno 08-14-2013 03:11 PM

Wow Wayne, She coming along nicely. Have you pick out a body color yet?

Flash68 08-14-2013 03:36 PM

Dang that looks great Wayne! You need a clear plexi trans tunnel cover for that. How cool would that be?

waynieZ 08-14-2013 07:59 PM

Thanks Guys !
Flash; No plexi for me my wife would be telling me to clean it every time she got in the car! :lostmarbles:
Al; That seems to be the hardest choice to make. There are so many awesome colors. I'm thinking an orange of some type. I found a color I like I emailed the shop but no way to get the formula. The guy who mixed it retired.
I have a quart from Jim ( SWAPMEETCRAZY ) to try .I hope I get to it soon.

SWAPMEETCRAZY 08-15-2013 06:14 PM

Wayne trans looks nice. I am going to either ship my 4l60e trans case to you or Al's kids to prep and paint it.

That color is Sunfire Pearlescent. We used that on the top of my old truck. It is a stunning color in the sunlight.

waynieZ 08-16-2013 09:05 AM

Its a nice color. Right now I'm dealing with getting the trans to fit to the bell. It may need a little spacer.
Marty I'm still cross eyed from doing mine. Al's son did a lot more detail work then I did.

Rick D 08-16-2013 01:40 PM

Looks great Wayne, glad to see you making progress!! That orange is nice it really does pop in the sun.

Smitty68 08-23-2013 09:15 PM

Very nice progress Wayne..Man would A fella like to pick your brain on ideas..:D. That motor looks killer. Those Cloyes timing covers are nice too!!
