Hey Greg, I read through the 69 pages on the Mustang and didn't see any suspension information. I've read you're running some Maier equipment, looks like leafs and a panhard bar in the rear. Could you explain what's going on under the car, it obviously works well.
Thanks Dan |

Dan -- There's some funny looking suspension and stuff under there... other than that - I haven't a clue |
Bummer.

It's at my place in Bellevue -- I'm at my place in Sun Valley - so I can't go look even. And I really have no idea what's what with it... I just change the oil after each motor blows up -- the suspension is fine -- so other than nut and bolting it - I don't look. It's just "stuff". |
Gotcha. Maybe it'd be easier if I went over and poked around a lil, the hide-a-key still under the fake rock?
I'll keep looking, if it comes up in conversation with Jack or Charlie I'd be interested to know what works. Thanks Dan |

Charley is like me -- doubt he'd have a clue... Maybe Jack will remember. I'll email and ask him. |
Jack just replied that he used TCP - Total Control Products - which is the race division of Chris Alston.... But I know for a fact that there is Maier Racing stuff on there as well because his name is the first thing you see when poking your head under the car...
Vari Shocks is what I remember seeing and someone else commenting on... And the front engine - shock tower bracing looks like what is shown on the TCP website... but I also know it has tubular A arms.... and bump steer adjusters I combed my photos thinking that I might have a couple of pics of the suspension but I don't... |
I appreciate the information, can't really go wrong with either of those names.
I did see a few under car photos in the thread, just the rear though. I'll keep digging. Thanks again Dan |

Thank you both.
I remember the Cortex Mustang, he was running Optima the same year as us. Something about no windows and snow on the drive from LasVegas! Street car, oh sure. I'll look into D$E, quality stuff for sure. Dan |

If you've ever watched their little red Mustang rip the track -- I agree! I'd also be using an LS motor... I'd just buy an LS3 525hp and I'd leave it bone stock and just run it til it quit. More than enough power for what we're doing. And cheap relative to running all this custom built stuff. |
If and when I do a mustang it will have the DSE stuff on it.

Here Dan --- Cortex "Execution" Mustang at Sonoma....
A "PS" here... I rode with my buddy Chet... in his Mustang... can't really tell you how his car is set up - but let's just say it's set up "well" for what it is - but I don't think it's got too much special going on. He's fast and I've yet to see him spin or do anything weird at the track and we've done a few together now... and HE could not keep up with a GT3 car despite many laps behind it... each lap it got further and further away. I was blown away by how well he did keep up though. Then you watch how easy this was and it's an OMG.... |

I'm sure they're sitting on pins and needles waiting for your call.... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Come on Marty -- I thought you were a died in the wool Camaro guy! |
525 hp stock LS3 ?

http://www.chevrolet.com/performance...t-525-525.html I should say 'carbureted' -- not "With a carb" - as that made it sound like it comes with a carb... I just meant it's not EFI. |
Great video, hookin and bookin!
I need to focus on the K.I.S.S. approach. Lots of fancy pants high end parts available for these but I would think that a lot of the track cars are running basic proven equipment. Maier is looking like the way to go for me, plus he's got cool stickers. The LS doesn't sound like a bad idea, I hear they're putting them in show cars now! Dan |

Dan -- I think if you took a ride with Charley - or me - or Chet - or Pete.... you'd be pretty shocked at how well simple stuff on skinny race tires can "hook and book". Build these for the street - with fatter tires (although 200 TW etc) and they'd be similar I think for handling. We're only using 245 X 15 tires -- and the street guys are running 335's. So we're running a tread width of 9.6" vs a 335 X 30 X 18... or 12.7" |
This is what I was hoping to hear, real cars that are done and running around the track/streets. I love all the high end stuff but also realize that its not needed to go out and have a good time. That track car of yours and Bryce's lil Falcon are perfect examples and the route I'm headed.
Dan |
Dan ---
I can hook you up with Pierre and let you guys into the shed remotely - if you really want to look over the Mustang. I'll be back over there just for a day or so before I head south to Kaliphorkneeyea again with the rig - then over to Texas - so will be out and about for most of March. So just let me know if you want to see for yourself what's under it. |
I really appreciate that Greg and I'm sorry we never hooked up last time. If you give me a day or two heads up I wouldn't mind meeting you as well.
I'm also trying to put together Laguna, the guys are running the Charger again and I need to get outta town. Let me know when you plan to head over. Dan |
Greg welds race car
Chet's car originally had global west parts in front
with their shocks Lincoln brakes out front and sat real high I had custom alignment strip everything off changed springs, shocks put the overrides on it and had them set it as low as they could Also put the baier brakes out front I missed the first track event because I was sick so I auto crossed the next week I remember Mike Maier looking under it while I was working the course Not much of an auto cross car but on the track it was so easy to drive It was so low it would scrape the headers on the rumble strips at the start of thunderhill's front straight. I finally put a set of shorties on it At 2810lbs it would go almost anywhere on the track When I got better running it I could hear the shock towers creaking Welded them later:). I only had 455 hp and could run in the top of the Shelby blue group with no problems. I finally scattered the motor and then had the 530hp 331 built I never did track it before I sold it to Chet. It was a great car to run but not like my Pantera and my Firebird felt neglected Glad to see it is being used like it should be I really had fun and learned how to track in that car but I really am not a mustang guy Panteracer NorCal Bob I hope to fire the bird up again after installing the new rocker shaft system Tomorrow |
Bob --- I can tell you -- having ridden with Chet many sessions == that he drives it like he stole it. He LOVES that car.... so it went to a good home.

Greg Weld's track car
Greg
Do you know if Chet is working on the 69 camero shell I sold him. Since he is really a GM guy he wanted to do a Penske Trans am clone. I have not been to any NorCal Shelby events lately so I do not see him He told me that if he bent the mustang up no big deal since he is a GM guy. That is why he drives like he stole it I have three friends that keep telling me they wish they would have bought that car Panteracer NorCal Bob |

I sent him an email and asked for an update.... |

I'm pretty sure I rode shotgun with Kevin Sittner in Chet's Mustang at Spring Sprint last year. Is the Mustang in question? https://scontent-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hpho...04508350_n.jpg |
That's it Carl --- Kevin is his race tech! And a great guy.
|
Chet's car
Yes that is Chet's car.. I sold it to him a few
years back.. he has a hobby store in Sacto and is a big GM guy... he has some cool stuff.. I delivered the car to his place and got a tour.. really nice guy I had 11 really good track days in that car until I scattered the back two pistons all over the front straight Panteracer Norcal Bob |

Hey Basher! I have the Muttstang up on the lift finally --- so took these for you...
It'll be on for a few days while I wait for new brake rotors and pads etc.... I'm sure yours is going to look just like this... right? LOL http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/IMG_5619.jpg http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/IMG_5634.jpg http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/IMG_5635.jpg http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/IMG_5636.jpg |
Minus the rack and pinion and.....Verishocks! I'm just waiting for the Weld blow out sale! Maybe you should fly Sutton up and get cracking on the upgrades before Sonoma, I'd hate to see you try and go fast with those old worn out parts!
What exactly is the brake set up there? I've got a SSBC kit on the front, old schooly 4 piston. The rear 9" has got some big honkin drums. I'm working tomorrow for a bit, should be done by 1:00, you going to be around? Dan |

Yeah I'll be around -- Rudy coming up to get his Camaro - I'm done with that temporary fix --- and then I have the Mustang on the rack... |
Is that a brake line running thru the transmission tunnel?

Greg,
Do you mind the exhaust being dumped next to the rear? |
Quote:
Yes it is! I think I had the work done at JCG |
Quote:
Not sure of why you'd ask.... as in -- because of the exhaust being near something? Or because of noise? With a helmet on in a car with no windows -- no -- the sound doesn't bother me at all - in fact I love it. There is no exhaust or anything like that on any parts of the car AFT of the dumps... But this car runs 110 octane Race Gas... and burns really clean |
