1st time novice D-SLR user.
My dad passed away in 2009. He was into this and has a Canon 450D SLR with 3 lenses larges being a 80-400 I have no idea what I am doing and finally decided to get it out and start to learn. Like always I started without reading the manual. I put the biggest lens on and walked out in the front yard this morning and snapped the photo below. It was really really dark, so had to enhance brightness using the PC. Still figuring out shutter speed, aperture etc Anyway reasonably happy with 1st attempt.... http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps74b5ce27.jpg |
I like it!! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Experimenting with the cameras these days is so easy... and fun... you take a bunch of shots -- mess with them if you choose - and hit delete on the one you don't like. Digital is great - Kodak hates it - but that's there problem! LOL |

Beautiful spring day here in Oz, was sitting in my study that overlooks our pond.
This little guy ventured out to catch some rays. They are called a blue tongue lizard as their tongue is bright blue. I'm not quick enough to get a shot with his tongue out (haven't toyed with continuous shooting yet). They grow to about half a foot long and are pretty slow and lumbering. Harmless although this may explain why 3 weeks ago we had small goldfish in the pond and now we don't !! http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps0c504540.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps7e4193c9.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps4938b90e.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t...psbe4f1487.jpg |

In honor of rifle deer season opening up this weekend, I share these pictures captured by Mrs SSLance from our back deck last Friday evening
The setting... https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-1...o/DSC03911.JPG The attraction to the left... https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-T...o/DSC03912.JPG The attractee to the right... https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-8...o/DSC03915.JPG https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-z...o/DSC03913.JPG https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-4...o/DSC03910.JPG The next morning another picture perfect setting... https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-3...o/DSC03918.JPG Camera she's using is a Sony HX100v, basically a 30x zoom, 16 mp, point-n-shoot. Very user friendly camera with the ability to reach out pretty far and grab some excellent shots. |
Was looking back through the thread and saw the wine country pics, reminded me of a few we took while out there first weekend in Sept.

Just to show the capabilities of my little point and shoot...
We handed the camera off to a stranger to take this picture of our group on the trail in the park between Fort Mason and Fisherman's wharf, with Alcatraz in the background. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-V...o/DSC03315.JPG I then turned around and took this picture of Alcatraz from the same spot freehand... https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-9...o/DSC03316.JPG |
