They're going to be awesome for sure.

Funny how Sutton had me change to a harder rotor and a softer pad.... and wow did that ever make a huge difference!

Ron had something pretty close, those Brembo GT brakes, but my accent colors are yellowish to goldish in hue like the nickel on the wheels, or the titanium anodizing color on the rotor hats, and Ron's brakes were powder coated bright red, which would have totally clashed and I just couldn't have that. This isn't a race car, so everything has to be cool, haha

Good stuff Matt. I can't wait to see this thing running and driving!

NOPANTS68 01-07-2015 06:21 AM

Matt, what are you doing for headers? Looks like I'm going Boss as well and have been doing research that has shown that headers I are really critical on these things due to the odd pulse patterns. Car looks incredible man.

Matt those are BAD A$$! Rode in a Evo yesterday with 500HP and some Stop Tech. That things pulled your eye out the socket when you hot the brakes., just crazy bad! Your going to love them.

Thanks! I haven't heard anything about weird pulse patterns, but then again, I haven't been researching headers on those motors. I have been thinking of doing a dry sleeve with new pistons and rods to get to 5.3L but I the hassle and expense is worth it for 30 hp.

Yeah I don't see the value in that unless you just like the 5.3 moniker- and I do lol. I've been working with Shaun at AED (one of the best Coyote tuners on the west coast) and he's helping me design some of the parts and pieces I'll need to make it happy. Evidently these engines have an odd firing order that creates a funky pulse pattern between some of the cylinders. The stock headers are a Tri-Y design to capitalize on the pulses and help scavenge. The O2 sensors have to be placed at a specific angle, on a specific plane in the header to allow for optimum tuning. It's been an education to say the least. I'm going to be running the CJ intake as well, but with a mono blade throttle body which according to Shaun is the cat's ass. I guess we'll see. He's talking 500RW with a good intake, the right headers, CJ goodies, and his tune. In our light cars- that's mucho fun time.

Hmm, now that you mention it, I remember reading through the Coyote wiring harness instructions about O2 sensor placement, it told you where to place it, and in the case of long tubes, which primaries to place them in.

500rwhp is an impressive number for a Coyote. I'm shooting for about 460 at the wheels. I plan on using the stock Shelby throttle body because it favors better low rpm air velocity. I'd like to get as much bottom end grunt as possible because these motors are a dog down low.

NOPANTS68 01-07-2015 11:29 PM

Sounds like 500 would take cams which doesn't make much sense on a Boss. The gains aren't worth it according to AED.

Ford Racing exhaust cams seem to be fairly popular on the Boss motors, and they do keep the variable valve timing. I talked to Stacy at DSE about the Aluminator XS (which is essentially a Boss 302 engine with 11.5:1 compression, exhaust cams and the Cobra Jet manifold) that they swapped into her FR500S and she said it had much better mid range power than the Roush Yates Boss 302 engine in the '66 Test Car, which has custom ground cams.

Matt@BOS 02-17-2015 11:16 AM

Update: I'm in the frigid north right now, where its a hundred degrees colder than it was at the shop, in Escondido, the day before I left.

I gathered a few more parts at the beginning of 2015, most notably these Stainless DSE headers, which are amazing in quality. It's a shame they'll be almost completely hidden when the motor is in.

I've also continued work on the front end, placing the radiator, power steering and oil coolers, as well as the intake. It has been a ton of work as everything is pretty much custom at this point. I've had to cut and modify coolant expansion tanks and hack up the core support, but after what felt like a thousand hours of taking things on and off repeatedly to check fitment, I'm finally starting to have pieces that look like they might be something some day.

Here is the air box bolted up in its final location. Now I just have to build everything around it.
http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...psffcf539a.jpg

The radiator is shorter, but wider than factory, and is supposedly good for 600hp, however, with the location of the valance and coolers, I wanted to make sure that the radiator's air had a dedicated path since it will only be flowing in through the lower grill opening. I also could not leave the airbox bolted on like in this picture

http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...psf173301e.jpg

I'm building this cover that will become part of the core support. Undo four bolts and you can change out the filter, without taking everything apart, at least in theory.

http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps482e455e.jpg

power steering cooler:
http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps0ff8d7d7.jpg

I also started working on this close out panel to hide all of the functional, but ugly bits, like the radiator mounting brackets and coolant tanks.

http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps0d7576fc.jpg

I'm looking forward to warmer weather again!

Very nice Matt.
Engine bay is looking good. Those DSE headers do look very nice!

Looking great Matt. Makes me want to get a Stang.

Incredible build Matt! Just finished reading all 70 pages.

The car is coming along great. I think you would be better off with that cooler with the grain rather than against it. Seems you are blocking off way to much radiator.

The radiator actually won't draw any air from in front of the power steering cooler. The PS cooler is mounted 4" forwards and will fit into the the upper grille section. The lower opening will have panelling to make a direct path to the entire radiator. The oil cooler will mount in front inside the lower opening, and will have plenty of space between the radiator for air to flow. We'll be finding out if this plan works the hard way. I could also mount the oil cooler down low and horizontally, in front of the engine, with a protective cover and it's own dedicated fan. Isn't building cars fun?

You should build a Mustang! They're great back up cars for when Chevy's break, and they're not fast enough to hurt themselves.

Truly beautiful car . I really like the fender mods. It's funny how similar to ron's car it is but also how different.

Paul

Matt@BOS 04-02-2015 06:49 AM

I've mostly been working on things that will never be seen on the car like a way to mount electric fans, which proved more difficult than usual since there was very little space to work with. The radiator and intake cover will be seen, however, and I do have pics of that.

It's been through a few revisions. The radiator fill cap was supposed to fit through but do to other space issues, it wouldn't work without moving the intake/filter mount.

I plan to beat on it pretty good, (more than the Camaro which has right around 30k on the Odo) even if it has all kinds of heavy, fancy looking metal parts on it and weighs 4000lbs, haha. It'll be fun when it's done. I don't own a trailer, and I hate cleaning wheels. I'll probably get some interesting comments from the car show people, if I ever take it to a car show.

Sounds like my kind of car. You're doing good work, Matt. Keep it up, and good luck moving forward.

Al Moreno 04-03-2015 07:47 AM

Great work Matt! I'm digging the mechanical look with the brace bars you have going.

GregWeld 04-03-2015 08:22 AM

It's okay I guess.... if that's what you're in to. :catfight:

Matt@BOS 05-15-2015 08:52 PM

I'm still making progress on the car, and still think its a possibility to get it finished before Dave gets BMF on the track, or Ron buys another car. One can hope, right?

I finished the underside. It has been seam sealed and undercoated. I also ran the fuel and brake lines, so there's a little less to do later.
http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...pszmqbzvlw.jpg

I was just about to disassemble the front end of the car and get it ready to have the engine bay painted, but then I found something else to do...
http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...psqwkvvuuc.jpg
http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...psrxfrsxom.jpg
http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...psxt9kuma9.jpg
http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...psmlridppw.jpg

I'll be finishing the odds and ends up tomorrow. Then I might start mocking up ideas for a rear spoiler. The rear body lines between the trunk and end cap pieces are a bit complex and tricky to work with, and if I can't make something that looks like a "could have been" part, I'll just leave it alone.

Thanks Al! You do something enough and you start to get a little better at it, I suppose. Learning to be patient was also key, and I still don't think I have the patience that your kids have!
